C.D. GLENN JR.
Clarence Dalton Glenn Jr., Lt. Col. USAF, Ret., of 925 North Bay Drive in Lynn Haven, entered into God's heavenly kingdom on Friday, August 31, 2001, at 11:34 a.m. He waged a valiant fight following surgery at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham; but was propelled to heaven by God's will at age 76. He was born in Morganton, N.C., on March 18, 1925. His parents, Clarence Dalton and Lois Glenn, preceded him in death. His military career spanned 36 years of flying jet fighters. His code was one of "Duty, Honor and Country." His commitment to duty followed him to the Korean and Vietnam campaigns as well as other strategic air commands throughout the United States and the world. Following his retirement from the USAF in June 1978, he made Panama City his permanent home and continued his love of flying as a flight instructor and corporate pilot. He said, "I always did my duty and flew my missions to the best of my ability and tried to inspire those in my command to follow my example." He was a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College and was of the Lutheran Faith. C.D. Glenn is survived by his wife, Ruth Glenn; daughters, Diana Holmes and her husband Tom of Panama City Beach; Carolyn Parker of Pawley's Island, S.C.; Cynthia Belt and her husband Cmdr. David Belt and their six children, Kristin, David, Elizabeth, Jessica, Stephen and Hannah of Indian Island, Wa. Other survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Fran and Don Phillips of Chattanooga, Tenn., and sister Joan Squires of Panama City; nieces, Fradonna Griffin, Candace Schmitt, Heather Trammell; nephews, Glenn Squires and Greg Phillips. Extended family includes Scott Atkins and children, Destiney and Drew Atkins, Greg, Kristi and Stevie Lynne Atkins; brother and sister-in-law John and Pat Starling all of Panama City. Other family members include numerous cousins that reside in the Marion-Morganton, N.C., area. Local family includes Tom and Kay McBride, Hazel Richter, Theresa and Harold Eddins. Special thanks are given to Louise and David Khouri of Birmingham, Ala., and Kim and Chuck Mason of Laredo, Texas. C.D. Glenn was a member of Daedalians, QB, The Retired Officers Association, Masonic Order, Shaddai Shrine Temple, and the US Power Squadron. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in the Tyndall Air Force Base Chapel 2. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery with full military honors conducted at graveside. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. Those desiring to may make a contribution to your favorite charity in memory of Mr. C.D. Glenn Jr.

Funeral services for Mrs. Virginia B. Nelson, age 65, of Youngstown, who passed away August 30, 2001, at her residence will be held at 2 p.m. today, September 2, 2001, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. William Plazarin officiating. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of Love Mausoleum, Forest Lawn Cemetery. Asked to serve as pallbearers are Rick Nelson, Brandon Nelson, Michael Nelson, Brian Gardner, Roy Peacock, Henry Gilliland, and alternate Steve Anderson.

GURTHIE LEE LOVETT
Gurthie Lee Lovett, age 81, of Southport, passed away August 31, 2001, at Gulf Coast Hospital. She was a native of Wicksburg, Ala., and had lived in Southport most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Southport where she was a longtime member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. Survivors include her son, Wiley I. Lovett Jr. of Southport; one daughter, Oma Jean Patrick of Southport; one daughter-in-law, Priscilla Lovett of Southport; two brothers, William A. Chambers of Southport and James Oran Chambers of East Point, Fla.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, September 3, 2001, at the First Assembly of God Church of Southport, Fla., with the Rev. Joe Sellers and the Rev. Darwin Glass officiating. Interment will follow in Old Southport Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, September 2, 2001, from 6 until 8 p.m.

WALTER 'PETE' MAGNESS JR.
Walter "Pete" Magness Jr., 81, of 3106 Ten Acre Road, Panama City, died Thursday, August 30, 2001, in his home. He had been a resident of Bay County since 1952. He served during World War II in the Army Air Corp. He was a retired owner and operator of Pete's Service Company. Mr. Magness was a member of The Rock and a former member of the Full Gospel Businessman Fellowship. He is survived by his wife, Lois Hall Magness of Panama City; daughter, Barbara Dupreast and her husband, Sam of Enterprise, Ala.; granddaughter, Pamela Erickson and her husband, Scott of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandson, Samuel Richard Dupreast of Enterprise, Ala.; two great granddaughters, Ashley Dunivant and Erica Dunivant of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters-in-law, Louverne Barron of Panama City Beach, Betty McAdams and her husband, Curtis of Graceville, Fla.; brother-in-law, Levi Hall and his wife, Angela of Panama City; three very special cousins, Margie Hardman of Columbus, Ga., June Johnson of Montgomery, Ala., and Ilene Minoletti of Anderson, Ca.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Apostle Nolan Ball and Brother Don Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Buford Nowell, Jerry Hall, Doug Hall, Clyde Green Jr., David Spence, Al Cobb, Gene Barnes and Ross Reed. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.

STEPHEN A MINKEY
Stephen A. "Steve" Minkey, age 52, of Panama City, passed away August 31, 2001, at Bay Medical Center. He was a native of Baltimore, Md., and had lived in Panama City for six years, moving here from Salisbury, Md. He was the public works director at the City of Parker and was a member of the Florida League of Cities and the Public Works Association. He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the BPOE Lodge No. 1598. He was a former officer in the Salisbury, Md., BPOE lodge. He was an avid sports enthusiast and supporter of athletics in the area and was very active in community affairs. Steve was loved by everyone who met him, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He put his heart and soul into everything he did: He wanted to make a difference. He is survived by his wife, Joanne Minkey of Panama City, Fla.; daughter, Stacey A. Minkey of Panama City, Fla.; brother, William Minkey Jr. of Baltimore, Md.; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Minkey was preceded in death by his son, Danny Minkey; parents, William Minkey Sr. and wife Evelyn; and brother, Andrew Minkey. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2001, at St. Dominic Catholic Church with father Peter Zalewski officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2001, with rosary at 7 p.m. Contributions can be made to the St. Vincent dePaul Society of St. Dominic Catholic Church.

BETTY JEAN SUGGS
Mrs. Betty Jean Suggs, age 71, of Blountstown died Friday in the Good Samatarian Center in Dowling Park. Mrs. Suggs was born in River Junction, Fla., and had lived in Blountstown several years. She was a beautician and cosmetologist. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Jim and Elaine Sansom of Fountain; two brothers and sisters-in-law, J.O. and Clyde Stone of Blountstown, Johnny and Paula Stone of Sneads. She was preceded in death by a sister, Vilia Ann Holloman; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the graveside at Shady Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Samson officiating. Interment will follow. CHESTER M. WOZNIAK
Chester M. Wozniak, age 81, of Panama City, passed away August 30, 2001, at his residence. He had lived in Panama City for 12 years, moving here from Wisconsin. Mr. Wozniak was retired from Zenith T.V. after working 34 years. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII and had been a scoutmaster with Boy Scouts of America. He was a volunteer fireman and fire chief with the Lombard, Illinois fire department, was a member of the Police Reserve of Lombard, was bailiff of Vilas County Wisconsin, and was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose. Mr. Wozniak was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, and was active in Holy Name Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife: Gilberta Wozniak of Panama City; his son: Michael R. Wozniak and wife Julia of Darien, Illinois; and his three grandchildren, David Wozniak, Douglas Wozniak and Julia Ann Wozniak. A. Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at St. John's Catholic Church with Fr. Andrew Lewandowski officiating. In lieu of flowers, make donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation in his name.

JOHN THOMAS 'SHORTY' BARNES
Mr. John Thomas 'Shorty' Barnes, 81, of 1534 East Ave., Panama City, Fla., went home to be with the Lord on Friday evening, Aug. 31, 2001, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at 10 a.m. in the First Assembly of God Church of Panama City with the Rev. Phil Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers will be the men's Bible class from the church. Funeral services for Joe W. Donalson Jr., 61, of Panama City Beach, who died Friday Aug. 31, 2001, at his home in Panama City Beach after a long illness with cancer, will be held today, Sept. 3, 2001, at 9 a.m. at the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. GEORGE D. BARNETT
Angels escorted George A. Barnett, 58, of Panama City, Fla., into the presence of his savior on Aug. 29, 2001. Mr. Barnett proudly served his country as a United States Marine, serving two tours in Vietnam. He retired as a major after 21 years of service. He returned to Panama City in 1998 and prior to his illness was store manager of Select Comfort at Panama City Mall. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Callaway. He is survived by his wife, Jolene Barnett (Judy); two daughters, Robin Davidson and husband, Ben, Amanda Schneider and husband, Brad all of Niceville, Fla.; his parents, Walter C. and Jewel Barnett of Panama City, Fla.; and nine grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at 3 p.m. in the Victory Baptist Church in Callaway with Pastor Larry Beach officiating.

Hal W. Gore Sr., 66, of Chipley, departed this life on Aug. 31, 2001, in his home. Mr. Gore moved his family to Chipley in 1972 from Raeford, N.C., and made a career at the Florida Department of Transportation as a real estate appraiser. He was an elder and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Chipley. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Inez Maxwell Gore; a son, Hal W. Gore Jr.; a daughter, Mahala Gore; and two granddaughters, Sara Gore and Emily Gore, all of Chipley. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the Wachob Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Chipley with the Rev. Mike Orr officiating.
