Mr. John E. Peterson, 90, of Southport, Fla., died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at his home. He was a lifelong resident of this area and worked for civil service as an engineer. Mr. Peterson was a member of the Scottish Rite, the Shriners, VFW Post 314 and the American Legion Post 375. Mr. Peterson was retired from the U.S. Navy and also served as past district vice president of the Navy Seabee Veterans of America. He is survived by two sons, John L. Peterson and wife, Peggy, of Bainbridge Island, Wash., and Henry L. Peterson of Southport; one daughter, Betty L. Ettinger of Arizona; one sister, Lucille Land of Panama City; one brother-in-law, Ernest Greer of Southport, Fla.; two grandchildren, Kecia Deofeo and Abby Grace Peterson; one great-grandchild, Andrew J. Betts and special friend, Darline Davis of Southport, Fla. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at 3 p.m. in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Steve Southerland II officiating. Interment will follow in Old Southport Cemetery. military honors will be accorded at graveside. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Funeral services for Mrs Frances G. West, 85, of Panama City, Fla., who passed away Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, will be held 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Howard C. Whittie James Saffold, 59, of 403 E. Ninth St., went home to be with the Lord Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at Bay Medical Center. He was born in Dothan, Ala., to the late John A. and Ida Mae Saffold. He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Mary Bell Saffold. His passing is a deep loss to his family and friends. Survivors include wife, Carolyn Richardson Saffold of Panama City; three children, Dexter Dickens of Tallahassee, Roslyn N. Dickens of Plano, Texas, and Stacy (Jeannie) Saffold of Panama City; grandchildren, Tiffany Dickens, Stacy (Jay) Saffold II, Ayana A. Dickens and Zachary Tyler Saffold; godchildren, Kendrick Johnson and Dexter (D.J.) Anderson Jr; four brothers, Harvey (Gaines Ella) Saffold of New York, N.Y., the Rev. Johnny C. Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 20, at noon at St. John Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Delwynn G. Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Kent Forest Lawn Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service. Visitation hours will be Friday, Oct. 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. John Missionary Baptist Church and from 9 to 10 a.m. at Gainer Family Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday.

LOUISE CHRISTINE WATERFIELD
The family of Christine Waterfield is mourning the death of their mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother who passed away on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 14, 2001. Christine was born in Etawah County in Alabama on May 28, 1909. She was married in St. Louis, Mo., and moved to Panama City in 1944 where she was a homemaker and a friend to all. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Earle. She leaves behind one son and daughter-in-law, Bentley and Virginia Waterfield of Destin; one daughter, Mary Holbrook of Sandestin; four grandchildren: Benny Waterfield and wife Karen of Destin, Terri Barnette and husband Billy of Pensacola, and Kenneth Mattes and wife Allison of Pinehurst, N.C., and John Mattis of Atlanta, Ga. Her great-grandchildren are Taylor Waterfield of Destin and Lyndsey and Jordan Barnette of Pensacola. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Panama City. The Rev. Dennis B. Baum will officiate. Her ashes will be interred in the Memorial Garden at the church following the service. Arrangements are under the direction of McLaughlin Funeral Home of Fort Walton Beach. The family requests that anyone who wishes to honor her memory may do so with donations in her name to St. Andrews Episcopal Church of Panama City's discretionary fund or the building fund of St. Andrews By-The-Sea in Destin.

Annie Maude Brundidge, 75, of 1114 Bay Ave. Apt. B, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Bay Medical Center. Funeral services for Mrs. Brundidge will be held today, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m. in Battle Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Lonnie Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. CAROL ANN CURTIS
Carol Ann Curtis, of Lynn Haven, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, in a local hospital. She was known by her friends as Mama Carol. She was a waitress working at Angelina's and had previously worked at the Olive Garden Restaurant for many years. She is survived by her husband, James E. Curtis of Lynn Haven, five children, Agnes Curtis, Cynthia Curtis, James E. Curtis II, James A. Curtis, all of Orlando, Fla., Wayne V. Curtis of LaPorte, Texas; six grandchildren, Jonna Ravelle, Katina Harris, David Harris, Chad Harris, Kyle Harris, Christopher Harris; two great-grandchildren, Adriana Harris, Brittany Revelle; two brothers, John Marciano, George Marciano; three sisters, Florence Woodbury, Valerie Hernandez and Martia Horton. The family will receive friends at Wilson Funeral Home today from 8-10 a.m. Funeral services and interment will be in Orlando, with the Dobbs Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

ELGA 'LOUISE' HINES
Mrs. Louise Hines, 75, of 1320 Buena Vista No. 73, Panama City, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at her home during her sleep. Mrs. Hines was preceded in death (by two weeks) by her husband of 58 years, Rex J. Hines. Her son, Larry R. Hines, of Jefferson, Mo., survives her. He is president of "Challenge to Change Ministries." She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Berta Mae Bowen of Havana, Fla., and her siblings, James W. Bowen, Robert L. Bowen, Cecil W. Bowen, Clyde R. Bowen, Lillian M. Young, and Mabel I. Sullivan. Mrs. Hines was a devoted member of Central Baptist Church and the Athlea Sunday School class. Mrs. Hines came from Tallahassee, working for a Tallahassee bank, and then moved to Panama City in 1956 when she went to work at Bay Bank for Mr. Collins. After a few years she went to work at the Bay County Clerk of the Court's Office until 1967, then Mrs. Hines felt the calling of the Lord to go to work at Panama City Christian School, to minister in the financial office to the students, parents and staff for the following 28 years. In 1995 she retired to care for friends. She will always be remembered by her many nieces and nephews who filled the void as the mother they had long ago lost. Many friends who love her will never forget the smile on her face and the baked goods in her hands. Family and friends will be remembering her at the home of A.C. and Jean Smith, 4018 Princess Lane, today, Oct. 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial will be held at Central Baptist Church, 1104 Balboa Ave., on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to Central Baptist Church, Panama City Christian School or to her son's ministry, "Challenge To Change Ministries," Jefferson, Mo.

Mary H. Wilson, of 3715 Airport Road, Panama City, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, in a local hospital. She was the retired manager of Singer Sewing Store where she had worked for 17 years. She had been a resident of Panama City since 1956, moving here from Greenville, Miss. She was the type of person that never met a stranger and was always there to help others that were in need. She is survived by her husband, Frank Wilson of Panama City; two sons, Paul Wilson and his wife, Kristy, of Dallas, Texas, Michael Wilson of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sisters, Gene Hines and her husband, Kermit, of Fayetteville, N.C., Madye Bass and her husband, Karl, of Phoenix, Ariz.; two brothers, Clyde Harper and his wife, Mary Ann, of Bellevue, Iowa, Bill Harper of Memphis, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Colleen Dickens and her husband, Bill, of Panama City; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Beach officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today. Those desiring to may make a contribution to Covenant Christian School or a favorite charity in memory of Mary Wilson.
