R.A. 'RAY' SHORES
Mr. R.A. "Ray" Shores, 77, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Monday evening, Oct. 22, 2001, in Bay Medical Center. Born in Jackson County, Fla., he was a lifelong resident of this area. He was an engineer with Bay Line Railroad and retired after 37 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Springfield Baptist Church. Mr. Shores also loved the great outdoors and gardening. A brother, George Shores, and two sisters, Willie Kent and Katherine Hall, precede him in death. Mr. Shores is survived by one son, Robert F. Shores and wife, Betty; one daughter, Renae Dykes and husband, Edward; one sister, Stella Hiley and husband, Ed; three grandchildren, Jacob, Robin and Justin Shores; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at 2 p.m. in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of the Emerald Coast in memory of Mr. Shores.

RAYMOND EUGENE STEINBRECHER
Mr. Raymond Eugene Steinbrecher, 81, of 111 Christopher Drive, Panama City Beach, Fla., passed away Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at his home. Mr. Steinbrecher was born in New York City and had been a resident of Bay County for 18 years, coming here from Miami, Fla. He retired to Panama City Beach after careers in the Merchant Marine and U.S. Post Office, was a member of the AARP, and attended Woodlawn United Methodist Church. Ray enjoyed making people laugh, and never missed an opportunity to share his jokes with friends and strangers alike wherever he went. Mr. Steinbrecher is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Steinbrecher, of Panama City Beach, Fla.; one son, Raymond Steinbrecher Jr. and wife, Leah, of Panama City Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Robin Ross and husband, Barry, of Panama City Beach, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Amy Elizabeth Ross and Barry William Ross II, both of Panama City Beach, Fla. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Oct. 24, 2001, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel.

WILLIAM E. 'BILL' WELLS JR.
Mr. William E. "Bill" Wells Jr., 52, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at a local hospital. He was a native of Panama City and was a retired E-6 in the U.S. Army. He was also a member of Callaway Assembly of God. Mr. Wells is survived by his wife, Carol Wells, of Panama City, Fla.; a son, Scott Wells, of Panama City, Fla.; his parents, the Rev. William Sr. and Carolyn Wells, of Panama City, Fla.; sisters, Carol Hughes of Panama City, Fla., Roz Griffin and her husband, Tommy, of Ellijay, Ga., and Louise Freeman of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; an aunt, Wyvetta Simpson of Panama City, Fla.; nephews, Joseph Hughes and son Joey, Michael Freeman, Phil Bennett and Jared Wise; nieces, Mellissa Griffin and Michelle Freeman; and many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, David Stephen Wells. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Bill Jones, Phil Jones, Del Jones, Phillip Bennett, Bill Mason and Scott Wells. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.

THOMAS LEE BROWN
Mr. Thomas Lee Brown, 89, of Lynn Haven, Fla., passed away Tuesday evening, Oct. 23, 2001, in a local nursing home. Born in Orangeburg, S.C., he moved here in 1943 from Aberdeen, N.C. He was a retired, self-employed truck driver and attended Bayou George Assembly of God Church. Mr. Brown is survived by his longtime companion, Cora Dee Suggs Brown, of Lynn Haven, Fla.; one nephew, Bobby Brown and wife, Barbara, of Southport, Fla.; two nieces, Carrie Earle of Palm Bay, Fla., and Sherri Hudson and husband, Doug, of Lynn Haven, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Dot Brown of Lynn Haven, Fla., and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at 10 a.m. in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Lynn Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association in memory of Mr. Brown.

ANGELINE DOWLING GRAY
Funeral services for Ms. Angeline Dowling Gray, 53, of Panama City, Fla., will be held today, Oct. 25, 2001, at 2 p.m. in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel. Lewis McElreath will give the eulogy. Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m., prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow at a later date in Oakhill Cemetery in Newnan, Ga. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of the Emerald Coast in memory of Ms. Gray.

DANIEL JOHN HAMRE
Mr. Daniel John Hamre, age 45, of 4116 Sue Lane, Springfield, Fla., passed away Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at his residence. He was born in Madison, Wis., and moved to Panama City at the age of nine. Mr. Hamre was a 1974 graduate of Rutherford High School and spent four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict, after which he became a journeyman electrician. His deep faith in Jesus Christ sustained him through his battle with colon cancer and 16 years with multiple sclerosis, which left him a quadriplegic for the past 10 years. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. Mr. Hamre is survived by his parents, Phyllis and John Hamre of Springfield, Fla.; two brothers, James Hamre and his wife, Mary Jane, of Suwanne, Ga., and Sgt. 1st Class Andrew Hamre and his wife, Pennsri, of Clarksville Tenn.; two sisters, Rebecca Hubbard and her husband, Bryan, of Rockville, Md., and Elizabeth Redding and her husband, Chad, of Panama City, Fla.; and 11 wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Dorothy and Freeman Murray, and his paternal grandparents, Myrtle and John Hamre. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1001 W. 11th St., Panama City, Fla., 32401 with Dr. Wesley Toncre officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery with military honors conducted by Tyndall Air Force Base. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are, the elders of Trinity Lutheran Church, Jim Bledsoe, David Ammerman, Jamie Kirkland and Alvin Miller. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran "Kids Life Club" in memory of Dan Hamre.

KENNETH W. 'KENNY' HOWELL
Mr. Kenneth W. Howell, "Kenny" to all who knew him, was born June 11, 1955, and died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, as the result of an automobile accident. Kenny stopped to help someone he did not even know. Kenny was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, nephew, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Susie, whom he gave two children, prized and precious son, Travis A. Howell and Nick the poodle, and adored daughter, Amy Melissa Klincik and her husband, Michael; two grandchildren, David and Michelle; Kenny's mother, Addie P. Howell of Panama City; brothers, Jack Howell and his wife, Jean, Gerry Howell and his wife, Marie and Danny Howell and his wife, Kerry; sisters, Jill Bass and her husband, Elzie and Joan Mowry of Hampton, Fla.; and also his special nephew, George Bass and his wife, Denise. He is the beloved son-in-law of Jack W. and Jean Alexander; brother-in-law of Cassie Gray and her husband, Martin; and was a dear friend of Paul Panunto of Louisiana. Kenny was uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry C. Howell. He was a dedicated and loyal employee of Tractor and Equipment Co. for 28 years. Through this employment he gained several more "family members." Kenny, along with his son and brother, was active in drag racing, where he gained even more family members. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at the Hiland Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Pickerill and the Rev. Curtis Kent officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Rick Nesius, Bill Register, David Hawker, Greg Wallace, Kim Shores and Roger Granger. Honorary pallbearers will include the employees of Tractor and Equipment. EVELYN MARIE PARKINSON
Mrs. Evelyn Marie Parkinson, 85, of Panama City, Fla., formerly of San Francisco, Calif., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at a local nursing facility. She was a native of Illinois and had lived in San Francisco for 30 years before moving to Panama City. Mrs. Parkinson was a retired secretary for the Bank of America and was of the Protestant faith. She is survived by her children, Joy Scofield and her husband, Richard, of Panama City, Fla., and Jeffrey Parkinson and his wife, Marcia, of Herndon, Va.; a brother, Lester Gehrke of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a sister, Ruth Schwartz of Cedarville, Ill.; and two granddaughters, Leia Scofield of Dallas, Texas, and Carolyn Scofield of Panama City. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ken Taylor officiating. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of Love in the Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, from 3 to 7 p.m.

WILLIE GENE SAWYER
Mr. Willie Gene Sawyer, 69, of Fountain, passed away Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at his residence. He was a native of Midland City, Ala., and had lived most of his life in Bay County. Mr. Sawyer was the owner/operator of Gene's Bait and Tackle and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He attended Youngstown Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing. Mr. Sawyer is survived by his wife, Imogene Sawyer, of Fountain, Fla.; his children, Doyle Yarbrough Sawyer and his wife, Kathy, of Bonifay, Fla., Teresa Madison and her husband, Gary, of New York state, Michael Sawyer of South Carolina, Willie Gene Sawyer II and his wife, Laura, and Darryl Bud Sawyer and his wife, Donna, all of Fountain; two sisters, Martha Farmer of Columbus, Ga., and Zona Lee Sasser of Valley, Ala.; 20 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 25, 2001, at the Kent- Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gene Hodges officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with military honors conducted by the U.S. Army. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are, Doyle Sawyer, Gene Sawyer, Darryl Sawyer, Jerry Croff, Jason Croff and Joe Croff.

CLYDE WAGES
Mrs. Clyde Wages, 93, of Oak Grove, passed away Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, in Ocala. She had resided here since the early 1930s. She and her late husband, Youal Wages, were employed by and operated restaurants and a grocery store for many years until their retirement. Ms. Wages was known by many for her quilting and crocheting. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Port St. Joe and the Bethany Sunday school class. While in Ocala, she attended the College Road Baptist Church. Survivors include her son, Fred T. Wages and wife, Rachel, of Ocala; one granddaughter, Nancy Wages of Toulouse, France; one sister, Letha Pearl Griffin of Fitzgerald, Ga.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held today, Oct. 25, 2001, at the First Baptist Church at 2 p.m. EDT with the Rev. Brent Vickery officiating. She will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service. Internment will follow at Holly Hills Cemetery. Those that wish, may make donations to the First Baptist Church in Mrs. Wages' memory.
