EVELYN MARIE PARKINSON
Mrs. Evelyn Marie Parkinson, 85, of Panama City, Fla., formerly of San Francisco, Calif., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at a local nursing facility. She was a native of Illinois and had lived in San Francisco for 30 years before moving to Panama City. Mrs. Parkinson was a retired secretary for the Bank of America and was of the Protestant faith. She is survived by her children, Joy Scofield and her husband, Richard, of Panama City, Fla., and Jeffrey Parkinson and his wife, Marcia, of Herndon, Va.; a brother, Lester Gehrke of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a sister, Ruth Schwartz of Cedarville, Ill.; two granddaughters, Leia Scofield of Dallas, Texas, and Carolyn Scofield of Panama City; sister-in-law, Mary-Ann Liebenstein and her husband, Bill, of Pearl City, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Ardath Breuer of Prospect Heights, Ill.; and eight nephews and three neices and their families. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. today, Oct. 27, 2001, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ken Taylor officiating. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of Love in the Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.

ELSIE JANE SIMON
Mrs. Elsie Jane Simon, 80,of Port St. Joe, passed away Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, in Bay Medical Center. Born in Pennsylvania, she had been a resident here for the past 30 years and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Port St. Joe. Her first career was her family. After her children and grandchildren were reared she went back to school and at age 60 earned a degree as a licensed practical nurse. She then worked for 12 years at Gulf Pines Hospital before retiring. Mrs. Simon was preceded in death by her husband, R.E. "Bob" Simon, and one son, Robert A. Simon. Survivors include her children, James E. Simon and wife, Diane, of Autryville, N.C., Judith Hendricks and husband, Ron, of St. Joe Beach, Susan Jane Taylor and her late husband, William Taylor, of St. Joe Beach, Steven J. Simon and wife, Sara, of Illinois, and Laurie L. Simon of Auburndale; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Simon of Daytona Beach Shores, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Donations may be made to the Reformed Presbyterian Women's Association, 2344 Perrysville Ave., Pittsburgh, Pa., 15214. Graveside funeral services will be held at Holly Hill Cemetery today, Oct. 27, 2001, at 1 p.m. EST, conducted by the Rev. Joe Eckstine. Interment will follow.

HAROLD BUCKINGHAM SR.
Mr. Harold Buckingham Sr., 61, of Seminole, Fla., passed away on Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, while visiting his family in Panama City, Fla. Mr. Buckingham was a lifelong resident of Seminole and had only been in the area for a short time. He was a retired utilities worker. Harold is survived by two sons, Harold Buckingham Jr. and wife, Julie, and Mike Buckingham and his wife, Michelle, all of Destin. He is also survived by his daughter, Kim Hudson, and her husband, Kip, of Panama City; as well as a brother, William Buckingham, of Newport Richey, Fla. His survivors include his loving grand-children, Shannon, Brandon, Courtney, Chelsie, Meghan, Alissa, Clinton, Kyle, Colt, Parker, and nieces Debbie Westbrook and Cherie Hill. Memorialization by cremation was arranged with Southerland Family Funeral Home, 100 East 19th Street, Panama City, Fla. Those desiring to honor Mr. Buckingham's memory may make a contribution to the American Heart Association in his name.

Carlton Leonard Davidson, 81, of Chipley, Fla., passed from this life on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, at his residence in Chipley, Fla. He was a lifelong resident of Chipley, Fla. He was of the Baptist Faith and a member of the First Baptist Church, Chipley, Fla. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at the First Baptist Church, Chipley, Fla., with the Revs. Stan Weatherford, Michael Orr and Gary Wiggins officiating. Burial will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 28, at Wachob Chapel, Chipley, Fla. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to please make donations to the American Cancer Society. Survivors include wife, Ruth Bush Davidson, Chipley; two sons, Wade Davidson, Chipley, Fla., Billy Davidson, Chipley; one daughter, Linda Jolley, Chipley; two brothers, Alton Davidson, Chipley, Durell Davidson, Niceville, Fla.; two sisters, Luvern Schultz, Panama City, Vernell Doyle, Willington, N.C.; five grandchildren.

JULIET P. JOHNSTON
Mrs. Juliet P. Johnson, age 78, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, at a local hospital. She had been a resident of the area since 1973, coming here form Houston, Texas. Mrs. Johnston served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, WAC. She was also a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. Mrs. Johnston is survived by a daughter, Donna Anders Shaffer of Panama City, Fla.; a son, Michael P. Anders of Orlando; a sister, Jane P. Reese of Houston, Texas; and two grandchildren, Lee Michael Pepper Anders and Robert Lee Pepper Anders, both of Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas L. Johnston. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with Pastor Dennis Schmidt officiating . The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, from 2 to 3 p.m. Those desiring may make contributions to the Alzheimer Foundation or your favorite charity.

Mr. Charles Frederick Menck, age 46, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, at his home. He was a native and lifelong resident of Panama City and operated a lawn care business. Mr. Menck is survived by his son, Joseph Menck, and his wife, Christina, of Panama City, Fla.; his parents, Maurice and Lillian Menck of Panama City, Fla.; two brothers, William Menck and his wife, Kim, of Panama City Beach and Michael Menck of Panama City; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Sammy Stewart officiating. Interment will follow.

"Joe" O'Daniel, age 57, of Panama City who passed away Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Oct. 28, 2001, at the Agape Baptist Church with the Rev. Virgil Vickers officiating. THOMAS JEFFERSON 'T.J.' SHERMAN
Thomas Jefferson "T.J." Sherman, 94, of 110 Bunkers Cove Road, died Saturday morning in a local nursing home. He had been a resident here since 1926, moving here from Dothan, Ala. He was the owner of Sherman Shipyard and Towing Service. He was the eldest son of Mr. Walter C. and Kate Woolfork Sherman and the grandson of Thomas Jefferson Sherman and Martha Louise Moore who were buried in Providence Methodist Church, Stewart Co. Georgia, Providence Canyon. Mr. Sherman was a graduate of Dothan High School and Marion Institute. He was active in Panama City Banking, serving on the Board of Directors of Bay National Bank and Trust, First Federal Saving and Loan Association and Security Federal Saving Association. He was active in civic organizations including Panama City Rotary Club, Panama Country Club and St. Andrew Yacht Club. He also served on the Panama City Housing Authority. Mr. Sherman was a charter member of the Cove Baptist Church and the Central Baptist Church. He was a member of the Sons of American Revolution. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; his wife, Carolyn Barrett Sherman; his daughter, Carolyn Jo Sherman Larson; a grandson, Walter C. Sherman III; his sisters, Katherine Sherman Mathis, and Martha Sherman Lewis; and a brother, John Henry Sherman. He is survived by two sons, Walter C. Sherman and his wife, Wanda, and Thomas Jefferson Sherman and his wife, Gwen, all of Panama City; nine grandchildren, Tal Larson, Lynn Larson VanBerschott, Paul Larson, Tom Sherman IV, Sharon Floore, Carol Sherman, Jean Loutzenhiser, Rachel Hicks, Davis Sherman; and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tal Larson and the Rev. Richard White officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. Jerry Smet, age 57, of Panama City, passed away Oct. 23, 2001, at Bay Medical Center. He was a native of Fond du Lac, Wis., and had lived in Panama City for 8 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was the manager of St. Andrews Trailer Court. No services will be held locally. He will be transferred to Fond du Lac, Wis., for funeral services and burial.

JOHN B. WAINWRIGHT
John B. Wainwright, age 83, of Panama City, passed away, Oct. 26, 2001, at Bay Medical Center. He was born in South Carolina and lived most of his life in Bay County. Mr. Wainwright was a retired lieutenant commander in the U. S. Navy serving during WWII. He began his professional career for the Palm Beach County Health Department and then served as Director of Environmental Health for Bay County, Fla., until his retirement in 1981. He was well respected in his field, and had a major influence in environmental legislation for the State of Florida. Mr. Wainwright graduated from the University of Tampa and attended Notre Dame University for R.O.T.C. He received his Masters Degree from Tulane University in New Orleans. He is survived by his wife, Marguerite Wainwright of Panama City; two daughters, Jan Marie Sayer and husband Steve of Niles, Mich., and Karen O'Keefe and husband Vince of Panama City; a son, John B. Wainwright and wife Theo of Molakai, Hawaii; one sister, Geraldine Henderson and husband, Marvin, of St. Petersburg; his grandchildren, Trisha Willard and Alisha Jesswein, both of Niles, Mich., Scott Davis and Clynt Davis and wife Mary all of Atlanta, and Kalani Wainwright, of Molakai, Hawaii; his great-grandchildren, Michael Bounds and Joey Willard, both of Niles, Mich. He was predeceased by a daughter, Cheryl Wainwright; and a sister, Margie Sarver. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of Love Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. A special thanks to the staff of Bay Medical Center, particularly the Second Floor Step-Down Unit.

EVELYN B. WALDEN
Mrs. Evelyn B. Walden, 83, of Milton, Florida went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at a health care center. Born in Brewton, Ala., she had moved to Pensacola from Panama City in 1953. Evelyn had been a secretary with the Wilson National Life Insurance Company, and later, with the Gulf Life Insurance Company. She was also a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed by her family. She was a faithful Christian who was a member of the Richards Memorial United Methodist Church in Pensacola. Mrs. Walden was preceded in death by her mother and Father; her devoted husband of 49 years, Ceal P. Walden; Brothers, Eugene, Arthur and Woodrow Calloway; and a sister, Ann Jones. Surviving family members include three daughters, Joyce Ervin of Spartanburg, S.C., Debra Clark and husband, Thomas, of Kingsland, Ga., and Jean Fowler and husband, Ellis, of Milton, Fla. Evelyn also leaves behind three grandchildren, Kelly (Peter) Auchincloss of Baltimore, Md., Kimberly (A.J.) Smith of Atlanta, Ga., and Sherri (Ted) Vereen of Katy, Texas; as well as three great-grandchildren. A visitation will take place at Southerland Family Funeral Home, 100 East 19th Street, Panama City, on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. followed by graveside services at 3 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Panama City with the Reverend Paul E.B. Malson officiating.
