Mrs. Doris E. McLean, 72, of Sunny Hills , Fla., passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, at the Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley. She has been a resident of the area for 30 years, coming here from California. Mrs. McLean was a homemaker and a member of Springfield Community Church. She is survived by her husband, James B. McLean, of Sunny Hills, Fla.; two daughters, Vicki Eldridge and Deborah Greenlee, both of Panama City, Fla.; two sons, John T. Baker of Cleveland, Tenn., and Mike Baker of Panama City, Fla.; two brothers, Milton Strength of Wewahitchka, Fla., and Jack Strength of Lynn Haven, Fla.; a sister, Ann Johnson of Sacramento, Calif.; a grandson, James Foster of Panama City; and two granddaughters, Samantha Greenlee of Panama City and Betty Jean Baker of Columbus, Ohio. Graveside funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at Lynn Haven Cemetery. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home.

Funeral services for J.L. Gay, 74, of Youngstown, Fla., who died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, in a local hospital, will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the High Praise Worship Center, with Pastor Robert Gay officiating. Interment will follow in the Vickery Cemetery, Jackson County, Fla. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today. Active pallbearers are Mike Davis, Roger Sweatt, Bruce Brogdon, Rick Glass, David Weldy, Danny Venkler, Bruce Godwin, Paul McGoey, Dan Howard, and Max Babb.

Mother Marie R. Starks, 89, of Panama City, Fla., died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at Emerald Shore Nursing Home. Funeral services for Mother Starks will be held today, Nov. 3, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the Antioch Temple C.O.G.I.C. with Supt. John M. Gipson officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. Chance Tomas Keesler, 3, of Callaway, Fla., passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at a local hospital. Chance had lived in Panama City all of his young life. He is survived by his mother, Melissa Matuzek, of Callaway; his father, Robert Keesler, of Marianna, Fla.; a brother, Brian Tyler Morrison, of Callaway; a sister, Kylee Underwood, of Lynn Haven; maternal grandmother, Liz Matuzek, of Callaway; maternal grandfather, Wayne Matuzek, of Greenville, S.C.; paternal grandmother, Rachelle Keesler, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and paternal grandfather, David Keesler, of Colorado Springs, Colo. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. today, Nov. 3, 2001, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Phil Davis officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.

ANTHONY WAYNE 'TONY' MOORE
Mr. Anthony Wayne "Tony" Moore, 44, of Lynn Haven, Fla., passed away Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at his home. He had been a resident of the area since 1965, coming here from Birmingham, Ala., and was Protestant by faith. Mr. Moore was the CEO and President of Aluminum Builders and Supply Corp, a licensed Florida building contractor and real estate agent. He was an enthusiastic Florida State fan and on the board of the local Seminole Club. Mr. Moore was also an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Moore is survived by his mother and father, Alice H. Moore and Arvin C. Moore, of Washington County, Fla.; his dearest companion, Mitzie Moore, of Lynn Haven, Fla.; a son, Christopher Moore, of Lynn Haven; a sister, Suzanne Moore, and Bryan Neafie of Washington County, Fla.; brother, Alan Moore and his wife, Maxine, of Lynn Haven, Fla.; and numerous nieces nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. T. A. Greene and the Rev. Jim Bakker officiating. Interment will follow at Wausau Memorial Gardens. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Phil Garner, Mark Crossno, Shawn Bledsoe, Johnny Roberts, David Lord and David Mercer. Honorary pallbearers will include Doug Messer, Charles Plesner, Randy Wahlberg, Ken Creighton, Bill Land, and Mark "Buck" Duncan. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, from 4 until 6 p.m.

DEE PAFFOS
Dee Paffos, a Birmingham, Ala., native, passed away on Friday, Nov. 2, 2001. He served as a forest service pilot for 30 years with The Florida Department of Agriculture. Upon retirement from the forest service, he flew as a chief pilot for Hilton Enterprises until the time of his death. In 1998, Dee was one of five pilots in the United States to receive the N.B.A.A., 20,000 Safe Flying Hours Award. He was a member of St. Andrew By The Sea Episcopal Church. He also was a Master Mason, Acme Lodge 222, and a member of the Bay County Chapter of Quiet Birdmen Society. Dee was preceded in death by his son, Nicky, and wife, Betty, of 50 years. He is survived by one son, Steve Paffos, and a sister, Katerine DiCiara of Birmingham; three grandchildren, Ariel, Christian, and Dylan Paffos; a niece, Delores Burns, her husband, Dr. Randy Burns, and their son, Charles; and four cousins. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Floyd conducting the service and the Rev. Hayes Wise giving the eulogy. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites. The family will meet friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Sunday. Active pallbearers are Charles Hilton Jr., Richard Dodd, Tommy Oliver, Taz Mailo, Paul Carroway, and Steve Hurd. Honorary pallbearers are employees of Hilton Enterprises, Florida Department of Agriculture, Forestry Division, and his very good friend, Dr. Matthew Sweetser.

SANDRA GAIL DANIELS BARFIELD
Ms. Sandra Gail Daniels Barfield, age 50, of Panama City, Fla., passed away, Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, at her home. She was a former resident of Ashford, Ala., had lived in Panama City since November 2000 and was a homemaker. She loved gardening, crafts and cooking. Ms. Barfield is survived by her sons, Scott Ammons, Brian Ammons, and Jason Ammons, all of Panama City, Fla.; brothers, Sam Daniels of Panama City, Earl Daniels and his wife, Rhonda, of Ashford, Ala., and Obe S. Daniels Jr. and his wife, Janet, of Panama City, Fla.; grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Edward William Ammons Jr.; and her parents, Obe and Helen Daniels. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Dennis Olson officiating. Interment will follow at Lynn Haven Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Sam W. Daniels, Lawson Earl Daniels, Obe S. Daniels Jr., and Edward W. HOWARD BERN BLAKE
Mr. Howard Bern Blake, age 78, of Daphne, Ala., passed away Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at a local nursing home in Daphne, Ala. He recently moved to Daphne, Ala., from Panama City, Fla., of which he had been a resident since 1969 coming from Jacksonville, Alaska. He served his country for 20 years with the U.S. Navy, then worked in Civil Service for Tyndall Air Force Base. He loved fishing and hunting, and was a member of the AMVETS of Panama City, Fla., and Tyndall Air Force Base Yacht Club, and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Blake is survived by a son, Russell Blake and wife, Kristina, of Daphne, Ala.; a daughter, Rhonda Adair of Cedar Grove, Fla.; three Grandchildren, Tiffany Blake, Jordan Blake and Rhett Blake, all of Daphne, Ala. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens with Dr. Reed Cameron officiating, with interment following. The family will receive friends at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m.

SAMUEL T. KERN JR.
Mr. Samuel T. Kern Jr. of Panama City, Fla., died Friday, Nov. 2, at his home after a lengthy illness, with his family by his side. He was born Aug. 7, 1930, in Allentown, Pa., to. the late Samuel T. Kern Sr. and the late Caroline Derr Kern. He was a member of the Lutheran Church. He was a resident of Bay County since 1967. He proudly served his country with two years in the Navy Reserves and retired from the U.S. Air Force with 20 years of dedicated service. After retiring from the Air Force, he was employed by H.G. Harders & Son for 21 years as purchasing agent, safety director and insurance liaison. He was a devoted husband, loving and generous dad and very proud Pappy. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lucy L. Martrich of Allentown, Pa. He is survived by his wife, Paula, of 49 years on December 13; daughters Lynn L. Bente and husband, John, Cindy L. Workman and husband, Brad; granddaughter, Stephanie A. Willard; and grandson, William E. Bente, all of Bay County, Fla. He also leaves several nephews and nieces all of Allentown, Pa. The family will receive friends at his home at 224 Hugh Thomas Drive on Monday, Nov. 5, from 6 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be made to the Lutheran Braille Workers, Bethesda Lutheran Homes and Services or Hospice of the Emerald Coast. A special thanks to all his gentle and tender caregivers who helped his difficult journey end with dignity. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
