GILFORD LAND
Mr. Gilford Land, 75, a lifelong resident of this area, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, in a local hospital. Mr. Land was a retired asphalt inspector and lab technician with the Florida Department of Transportation. He was a member of Lynn Haven Church of God and served in the United States Army. Mr. Land is preceded in death by his wife, Lela Nell Land. He is survived by one son, David R. Land of Vernon; one daughter, Linda M. Harris of Lynn Haven; one brother, J.D. Land of Lakeland, Fla.; one sister, Orene Davis of Lakeland; four grandchildren, Vanessa, Michael, Lela and Chad; and one great-grandchild, Brooklyn. Funeral services for Mr. Land will be conducted Sunday, Jan. 27, at 2 p.m. in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gene Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Lynn Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends this afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

IDUS O. LEWIS
Funeral services for Mr. Idus O. Lewis, 71, of Panama City, who passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, will be held at 10 a.m. today, Jan. 26, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with a military chaplain officiating. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of Love in Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.

RALPH PEARSON NANCE
The earthly journey of Ralph Pearson Nance began in Tecumseh, Okla., on Aug. 13, 1912, and ended in Panama City, Fla., on Jan. 25, 2002. He spent his childhood and teen-age years in Bell Buckle, Tenn., living on a farm with his parents, James Emmitt Nance and Emma Todd Nance; two brothers, Herbert and Emmitt; and a sister, Sarah; all preceding him in death. He graduated from Central High School, Murfreesboro, Tenn., in 1930. After receiving an engineering degree from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1936, he moved to Panama City and worked at International Paper Company. In 1942 he married Ruth Shelton, who died in November 1999 after 57 years of marriage. He and his young wife moved to Port St. Joe soon after St. Joe Paper Company opened and he was employed with this company until August 1977. Mr. Nance served his country in World War II on the U.S. Wilson in the Pacific Theater. He was a Bible expositor and had been a faithful member of the Church of Christ since 1924. At the time of his death, he was a member of Wewahitchka Church of Christ. Mr. Nance, who enjoyed clearing land purchases with his Ford tractor, was a wood craftsman, a member of the ISA and a former member of St. Joe Beach Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his son, David Todd Nance and his wife, Rita, of Fortson, Ga.; a daughter, Carol Nance Smith of Lynn Haven; three grandsons, Chad Nance and his wife, Debbie, of Wilmore, Ky., Chris Smith and Wes Smith, both of Lynn Haven; a stepgranddaughter, Melissa Thomas and her husband, Tim; and two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Caitlyn Thomas of Columbus, Ga. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Eternal Good News Radio Broadcasts, an effort to spread the gospel to Russian people. Donations should be made to the Wilshire Church of Christ with a designation to Eternal Good News, 41051/2 Jordan Ave., Edmond, OK, 73013. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27. Ralph's family and friends will gather at Holly Hill Cemetery on Monday, Jan. 28, at 2 p.m. EST to carry out his wishes for a simple graveside service.

CONNIE TODD
Mrs. Connie Todd, 51, of Sebring, Fla., passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at a nursing facility in Lake Placid, Fla. She had been a resident of Sebring since 1964, moving there from Panama City. Mrs. Todd was of the Church of God faith. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Todd is survived by her husband, Luther Ray Todd of Sebring, Fla.; a son, Luther Kyle Todd of Sebring; two daughters, Christal Ieslin and Raylina Hunt, both of Sebring; three brothers, Bobby Dillard of Glendale, Fla., Ralph Dillard of Jasper, Fla., and Marty Dillard of Darlington, Fla.; a sister, Sue Watson of Panama City; and six grandsons. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 26, 2002, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Troy Hare officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.

JAMES C. OLIVER
James C. Oliver, 78, of Bagdad, died suddenly Jan. 24, 2002. He was born in Pelham, Ga., was a longtime resident of Brewton, Ala., and had resided in Bagdad for the past 15 years. He was retired superintendent form Container Corporation of Brewton, was a lay leader and was a member of Bagdad United Methodist. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Alma Oliver; his son, John Leonard Oliver; his daughter, Linda Ann Wall; his sister, Vernice "Bert" Barfield. He is survived by his wife, Lois Oliver; three sons, James L. (Mary) Oliver, Leon C. (Peggy) Oliver, Gene L. (Dolores) Oliver; five stepchildren, Shelia Allison, Debbie (R.J. Jr.) Bush, Charles L. "Chip" (Judy) Reid, Frank (Sandra) Reid, Bruce (Leigh Ann) Reid; two sisters, Josephine Bagby, and Emmie (Ivan) Young; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; six stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bagdad United Methodist Church. The Rev. Gary Jones and Brother Ben Pooley will officiate with interment at 2 p.m. in Green Acres Cemetery in Brewton, Ala. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Donnie Sowell Funeral Home in Milton. Active pallbearers will be Charlie Kilpatrick, Ken Broxson, Bill Owen, Marty Kenney, Ronnie Arnold and William Freitag. Honorary pallbearers will be John Foote, Jim Pugh, and Vernon Cobb. Donnie Sowell Funeral-Home of Milton will be in charge of arrangements.

DANIEL RAINELLI
Mr. Daniel Rainelli, 85, of Lynn Haven, Fla., passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at his home. He was originally from Altoona, Pa., and had been a resident of the area for 20 years, coming here from Woodbridge, Va., Mr. Rainelli served his country in the U.S. Army and retired after 28 years. He enjoyed golf and worked at Tyndall Air Force Base golf course. Mr. Rainelli is survived by his spouse of 60 years, Peggy Rainelli of Lynn Haven, Fla.; daughter, Mary Simmers of Panama City; son, Steve Rainelli of Panama City; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Rainelli of Panama City; one brother, Bud Rainelli of Altoona, Pa.; grandchildren, Steve Rainelli and Angela McCauley of Panama City, Chris Simmer of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Mandi Simmers of Panama City; and great-grandchildren, Kenny Rainelli, Eddie Navarez, Ebony Guilford, Amy Rainelli, and Brittney Rainelli, all of Panama City. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at St. Dominic's Catholic Church with Msgr. Norman Metsy officiating. Interment will be at Mainpost Cemetery in Fort Benning, Ga., at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Steve Rainelli, Chris Simmers, Kenny Rainelli, Pat Rainelli, Ken Rainelli, and Eddie Navarez. JAMES M. RICHARDSON
Mr. James M. Richardson, 74, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, in a local hospital. He had been a resident of the area for 55 years, moving here from Andalusia, Ala. Mr. Richardson founded Richardson and Son Distributors in 1973 and formerly owned and operated Panama Woodcraft since 1947. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He attended Hiland Park Baptist Church. Mr. Richardson is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Mary Ruth Richardson of Panama City; four sons, Jimmy Richardson and his wife, Donna, of Panama City, Donnie Richardson and his wife, Sharon, of Tallahassee, Tommy Richardson, and Charlie Richardson and his wife, Connie, all of Panama City; a daughter, Judy Finch and her husband, Dennis, of Panama City; a brother, Comer Richardson of Panama City; two sisters, Noami Castleberry of Andalusia, Ala., and Faye Hoppe of Panama City; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Pickerill officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Bruce Traylor, Larry Halley, Levi "Bubba" Phillips, Bruce Wright, Benny Forehand, and Sam Phillips. Mr. George Smith Sr., 81, of 810 Frank Nelson Drive, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, in a local hospital. Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held today, Jan. 26, at 2 p.m. in Greater Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Clinton Smith and the Rev. Robert Jones officiating. Interment to follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church today from 10 a.m. until service time. MARVIS WASHINGTON
Marvis Washington, 62, of 712 E. 10th Court, died Monday, Jan. 21, in Bay Medical Center. WAYNE A. BROWN
Mr. Wayne A. Brown, age 68, of Parker, Fla., born in Callaway, Fla., on July 17, 1933, passed from this world on Jan. 23, 2002. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Georgia and Lee Barrett Brown; and his beloved brother, Dwight Lee "Potter" Brown. Wayne was a decorated Korean Veteran, and a graduate of Gulf Coast Community College and Troy State University. He studied history throughout his life and was an acknowledged historian of bluegrass music, a music he loved. He leaves his brothers, David H. and wife, Colleen Brown, of Callaway, Lowell T. and wife, Barbara, and family, of Valdosta, Ga., Gerald A. and wife, Del Brown, and family, of Slidell, La., Brenda L. and husband, Jack Saunders, and family, of Atlanta, Ga., Janis M. and husband, Donny McDonald, and family, of Panama City, Fla.; and many nephews and nieces and grand-nieces. There will be a memorial service at Kent-Forest Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association.

BESSIE PEARL CAIN
Funeral services for Bessie Pearl Cain, 98, of Panama City, who died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, in a local nursing home, will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with her grandson, Rev. Larry Beach, officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday. The family will be at the home of Dodie Beach, 1058 W. 11th Court, Panama City.
