Carl Ingram, 89, of Bonifay, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, in Bonifay. Mr. Ingram was owner-operator of Ingram Western Auto Store in Bonifay and a member of First Baptist Church. He was a deacon emeritus at the church and was a member of Esther Masonic Lodge No. 144. He is survived by a son, Shawn W. Ingram of Bonifay; daughter, Carla Brown of Bonifay; sister, Lucille Ingram of Dothan; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 31, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Burney Enzor and the Rev. Tommy White officiating. Visitation will be held today, Jan. 30, at 6 p.m. at Sims Funeral Home.

KATIE STRIPLING
Mrs. Katie Stripling, loving wife and mother, 61, of Wewahitchka, Fla., passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at a local hospital. She was born in Baltimore, Md., and lived in Wewahitchka for 45 years. Mrs. Stripling was a homemaker and attended the First Baptist Church of Wewahitchka. She is survived by her husband, Ray E. Stripling of Wewahitchka, Fla.; two daughters, Cindy Traylor and her husband, Tommy, and Margaret McMillion and her husband, Arnie, all of Wewahitchka; a son, Ray E. Striping Jr. and his wife, Jennifer, of Callaway; her father, Thomas Beatty of Jackson, Ga.; a sister, Nellie Jean Stephens of Wewahitchka; four brothers, Jimmy Beatty of Wewahitchka, Larry Beatty of Tucson, Ariz., Danny Llewellyn of Princeton, Ky., and Dudley Balmer of Noblesville, Ind.; a very special aunt, Nellie Ann Wade of Wewahitchka; five grandchildren, Jasmine Hysmith, Rocky Traylor, Kimberly McMillion, Courtney McMillion, and Rhett Stripling; and one great-grandson, Hunter Hysmith. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at First Baptist Church of Wewahitchka with the Rev. Joey Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Stripling Family Cemetery. Mrs. Stripling will lie in state at her home from this afternoon until service time Friday.

Harold H. Trammell, 73, of Panama City, went to live with God and family members on Jan. 29, 2002, at 10:41 a.m. He is survived by his wife, Kitty Trammell; son, Mickey Trammell and his wife, Cindy; daughters, Debra Trammell Fey and her husband, Rick, Rebecca Oden, Barbara Borders, Betty Brue; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. The family will receive friends at Wilson Funeral Home today from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held through Parkway Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, Forest Park, Ga.

WILLIE TOMMIE BARRETT
Mrs. Willie Tommie Barrett, age 84, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at a local nursing facility. She had been a resident of the area for 19 years, coming here from Birmingham, Ala. Mrs. Barrett was a member of Central Baptist Church and loved Alabama football. She also enjoyed needlework and ceramics. Mrs. Barrett was a loving mother and grandmother who is survived by a son, Robert Barrett and his wife, Thelma, of Panama City; a brother, Morris Alfred Wilder of Pascagoula, Miss.; two granddaughters, Tamara Butterworth and her husband, Johnny, of Panama City and Denise Perno and her husband, Pat, of Viera, Fla.; a stepgranddaughter, Michelle Welsh of St. Louis, Mo.; a stepgrandson, Craig Walters of Panama City; and great-grandchildren, Samantha Edwards, Danielle Butterworth and Leah Butterworth, all of Panama City, Elizabeth Welsh and Aaron Welsh, both of Virginia, Caran Walters of Panama City, and Patrice Perno of Viera, Fla. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with the Rev. John Barton officiating. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home today, Feb. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m.

JOHN LEONARD "LEN" CONLIN
Mr. John Leonard "Len" Conlin, age 70 plus, of Panama City Beach, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at a local hospital. He was born in New Jersey and had lived in Bay County for 30 years. Mr. Conlin is survived by his wife, Lillian Roland Conlin of Panama City Beach; three daughters, Linda Musselwhite of Palm Bay, Fla., Judy Teague and her husband, Benny, of Merritt Island, Fla., and Laura Thorough and her husband, Bill, of Destin, Fla.; a brother, Joe Conlin of New Jersey; four granddaughters, Melissa, Jessica, Victoria, and Mindy; and a grandson, Allan. Memorialization will be by cremation, with no services to be held locally. His remains will be scattered in the Gulf of Mexico where he spent many happy days.

DOROTHY LEE McKINNON (BRUNDIDGE)
Dorothy Lee McKinnon, 65, of 1407 Arkansas Ave., died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, in Bay Medical Center. She was a native of Panama City. She graduated from Roulhac High School in Washington County. She was a faithful member of the Church of God in Christ in Caryville, Fla., before moving to Lynn Haven, Fla. She changed her membership to Holy Temple Church of God in Christ in Panama City. Two brothers preceded her in death, John and Rudolph McKinnon. She is survived by two brothers left to cherish her memories, Alford McKinnon (Willie Mae) of Panama City, Fla., the Rev. Isaiah McKinnon of Daytona Beach, Fla.; one sister, Miss Clara Hingleton of Panama City; eight children, one preceded her in death, Cedric Floyd; sons, Edward Floyd (Vicky) of Yazoo, Miss.; Jimmy Floyd, Randy Floyd, Ervin Broxton, all of Panama City, Thaddeus Broxton of Daytona Beach, Fla.; three daughters, Alfreda Floyd, Cynthia Floyd, Jean Floyd, all of Panama City, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Ms. McKinnon will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. in Holy Temple Church of God in Christ with Pastor Willie C. Green officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Public visitation will begin at the funeral home today from 1 to 8 p.m. The remains will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Ms. Alfreda Floyd, 1407 Arkansas Ave., Lynn Haven.

LADY ETHEL WOOTEN SPIRES
Mrs. Lady Ethel Wooten Spires, 87, of 1342 Lincoln Drive, Panama City, Fla., passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, in a local hospital. A native of Jackson County, she completed her elementary education in Jackson County then moved to Tampa where she graduated from high school. She completed cosmetology training at Apex, Pero and Davies Beauty Schools. In 1935, she began her professional career as a licensed cosmetologist in Tampa. Upon moving to Panama City in 1941, she joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church and served as a faithful member. During her early membership, she served as clerk of the church. She was founder and owner of Lady Ethel's Beauty School in Panama City. In 1991 Lady Ethel's Beauty School was licensed as a Florida State Board of Independent Post-Secondary Technical Vocational, Technical Trade and Business School. As a cosmetology school owner and teacher, she furthered her education at Florida A&M College, Tallahassee, and Lincoln University in Nebraska. Lady Ethel was a dedicated educator and concerned community member who was involved in professional, church and civic organizations: The National Orange Blossom Cosmetology Association (O.B.C.A.) and founder of the local O.B.C.A. Unit No. 4, National Association of Cosmetology Schools, Ladies Aide Missionary Society, Christian Band of Benevolence, Daughter Ruler of the Elks, NAACP, ACURE, the National Rainbow Coalition, and various other civic organizations. In 1996 she received The Queen Mother Award in recognition of her contributions to the community through the establishment of a boarding house, a grocery store, a beauty school, and initiating a licensed FECC dispatching service for Lady Ethel's Campus Cab. She was an advocate of holistic health care, a pioneer businesswoman, and a trailblazer standing tall on the front line for social change and justice. She was preceded in death by a beloved sister, Janie E. Wooten Harris; a devoted husband, Henry Spires; two grandchildren, Ethel Yvette Davis and Robert W. Davis Jr.; and a stepdaughter, Nellie Pearl Allen. She is survived by two daughters, Laura C. Johnson and Janie E. Carter of Panama City; a stepdaughter, Geraldine Dillard; two stepsons, Willie "Mickey" (Josephine) Dillard and Tommie L. (Tammy) Spires; eight grandchildren, Sara Davis Pope, Melody Eula Johnson, Claude L. (Cassandra) Johnson Jr., Cavarious Davis, Terrence Michael Johnson, Calvin James (Angie) Johnson, Lady Ethel (Sloan) James, Anthony Felix Johnson; two stepgrandchildren, Sharon Sanders and Raymond Allen Jr.; 38 great-grandchildren including her seven first born great-grandchildren, Shakishaz "Kiki" Davis, Eddie Davis, Robert W. Davis III, Laura "Uzuri" Anderson, Bobbie Renee Davis, Diamonds J. Lambert, Asim-Malik Enoch-Johnson and Camellia Renee Johnson; six great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Ida M. Spires and Anna 0. Phillips of Bonifay; one son-in-law, Raymond Allen Sr.; one godson, Gregory Kelser; three special children, Amanda Shabaka Haynes, Joshua and Natalie Jones; a spiritual son and daughter, Elder George (Adalina) White; two special prayer warriors, Overseer Clinton (Luretha) McIntyre; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relative and devoted friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Spires will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. in St. John Baptist Church with Pastor Delwynn G. Williams and Rev. L.P. Davis Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Marianna, Fla. The body will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time for the service.
