ROBERT WILLIAM TOMB
Robert William Tomb, 78, of Panama City, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, in a local hospital. He was a native of West New York, N.J., and had been living in Bay County for the past 15 years. Mr. Tomb is survived by his loving wife, Ruby Nell Tomb, of Panama City; one son, Bruce Tomb, of New Jersey; three daughters, Katie Baron and Joe of Stanhope, N.J., Barbara DeClement and Ken of Hamilton, N.J., and Margaret Hresan and Scott of Frenchtown, N.J.; four stepchildren, Tammy Dobeck of Marianna, Timothy Skipper and Kerry of Ormond Beach, Tony Comerford of Youngstown, Stephanie Meadows Hagans and Mike of Seaside, Calif.; a sister, Elizabeth Williges of New Providence, N.J.; two brothers, Matthew Tomb of Chatham, N.J., and John Andew Tomb of Panama City. The family requests memorialization by cremation.

C. FARRIS BRYANT
C. Farris Bryant, 34th Governor of the State or Florida, was born in Marion County, Fla., on July 26, 1914, and died in Jacksonville, Fla., on March 1, 2002. He was married to Julia Burnett of Madison until her death in 1996 and is survived by three daughters, Julie Felter, Cecilia Lipsey and Adair Simon; and two granddaughters, Lela Felter Kerly and Ceil Danielle Felter. He graduated from the University of Florida and Harvard Law School, was a Navy lieutenant in World War II, and was five times elected by Marion County to the House of Representatives. He served as Speaker of the House in 1953. As governor from 1961to 1965, he led Florida to establish four universities and numerous junior colleges, founded the Florida Council of 100, secured passage of the bonding program that has provided over $15 billion dollars in capital funds for higher education, expanded the interstate, primary and turnpike road systems and initiated acquisition of unique lands to preserve Florida's environment for future generations. In 1966, President Johnson appointed Bryant to head the Office of Emergency Planning, as Chairman of the Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations, as the U.S. representative of the Civil Emergency Committee of NA TO and as liaison between the president and the nation's governors. In recent years, Bryant was active in the practice of law with Bryant, Miller and Olive, P.A., and in business, founded Voyager Group Insurance Companies and was active in the formation of several banks. He received honorary degrees from various colleges and the Order or the Silver Beaver from the Boy Scouts of America. Funeral services are being held at the Ortega United Methodist Church at 4807 Roosevelt Blvd. in Jacksonville at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, and at the First United Methodist Church at 1126 E. Silver Springs Blvd. in Ocala at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the C. Farris Bryant Political Policy Chair at Centra1Florida Community College, 3001 SW College Road, Ocala, FL 32306, or to the Julia B. Bryant Theater Arts Endowment Fund, FSU Foundation, Tallahassee, Fla.

INELLA TURNER MATHIS
Inella Turner Mathis, 71, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, in Fort Lauderdale. Funeral services for Mrs. Mathis will be held today, March 4, at 11 a.m. in Battle Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Willie James Golden officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Public visitation will be held today at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the service begins.

DANIEL A. MINNEMAN
Mr. Daniel A. Minneman, 66, of Lynn Haven, died Friday, March 22, 2002, at his residence. Born in Indiana, he moved here in 1994 from Decatur, Ala. Mr. Minneman was a retired machine operator for the Chrysler Co. and a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Elk's Lodge No. 1598 and the Moose Lodge No. 1389. Mr. Minneman is survived by two sons, Bobby R. Minneman and wife, Ann, of Panama City, and James A. Minneman and wife, Julie, of Milan, Ind.; one daughter, Lee Ann Christman and husband, Nick, of Sheridan, Ind.; one brother, John Minneman and wife, Terrie, of Monroeville, Ohio; five grandchildren, Kenny, Tony, Tylor, Jessie and Nicole, all of Indiana. Memorial services for Mr. Minneman will be conducted Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at 4 p.m. in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel.

LYDIA MAE PADGETT POWELL
Mrs. Lydia Mae Padgett Powell, age 81, of Highway 185, Westville, Fla., died Sunday, March 3, 2002, in Wiregrass Medical Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Beulah Anna Baptist Church with the Rev. David Hidle officiating. Burial will follow in the Beulah Anna Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing. Mrs. Powell will be placed in the church one hour before time for services. Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Mrs. Powell was born Jan. 10, 1921, in Holmes County Fla. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Clayton, and Eva Irene Kirkland Padgett Powell. Mrs. Powell was a member of the Beulah Anna Baptist Church. She was retired from Phillips-Van Housen Company of Geneva. She was a graduate of Leona High School, Class of 1940. She lived in Vero Beach Florida in the 1940s. Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her sister, Rae P. Lowe; two brothers, Clayton Sanford Padgett, and Foy T. Padgett. She is survived by her husband, James W. Powell, of Westville, Fla.; one son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Olean Powell, of Westville, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Faye P. Ramer of Panama City, Fla.; two grandchildren, James A. Powell, of Tallahassee, Fla., and Traci P. Landers, of Westville, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.

SANDRA LAINE 'MARTY' DAVIS
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, April 2, 2002, for Sandra Laine "Marty" Davis, 47, who passed away Saturday, March 30, 2002, in her home in Callaway after a long, courageous fight with cancer. The Rev. Perry Dalton and the Rev. Fred Melvin will officiate at the 2 p.m. service in Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. "Marty," as everyone called her, was a sweet, loving, giving person who was loved by all who knew her. She was born on Feb. 8, 1955, in Panama City. She graduated in 1973 from Rutherford High School. She was a member of Springfield Methodist Church, where she was active. Marty and her husband, Terry Davis, formerly of Graceville, were married on April 2, 1977. They would have celebrated their 25th anniversary today. In addition to her husband, Marty Mills Davis is survived by her son, Dustin Davis of Callaway; parents, Ewell "Red" and Elaine Mills of Springfield; brother, Michael Mills and his wife, Joanie, of Lynn Haven; sister, Lisa Morgan and her husband, Billy, of Hiland Park; special sister-cousin, Sherry Salter, and her husband, Bill, of Odessa, Texas; husband's parents, Betty and Curtis McAdams, of Graceville; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Special thanks are extended to pallbearers Wayne Mitchell, Ralph Mills, Mike Purka, Jerry Hall, Mike Nixon and Harold Davis; and to Covenant Hospice.

CORTEZ ANDREU DeBERRY
Cortez Andreu DeBerry, 96, of 754 Jenks Ave., Panama City, died April 1, 2002, in a local nursing home. She had been a resident here since 1936. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Panama City, where she was a member of the Ruth Sunday school class. She was a life member of Panama City Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Finley P. DeBerry; and a grandson, Robert DeBerry Jr. She is survived by two daughters, Cortez Patrick and Jean Cowan; son, Robert DeBerry Sr. and his wife, Shirley, all of Panama City; five grandchildren, Vicki Patrick, Christine Turner, Wally Cowan, John DeBerry, Christy Ezekial; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Raley officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 5 to 7 p.m. Those desiring to may make a donation to the One Heart Building Fund of First Baptist Church of Panama City or your favorite charity in memory of Cortez DeBerry. The family will be at the home of Robert DeBerry, 7118 Coe Road.

KATHRYN 'KAT' VERNON HOUSE
A memorial service for Kathryn "Kat" Vernon House will be held today, April 2, at 7 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 3601 Hwy. 390 (next to Mathison Retirement Center). Mrs. House is survived by one son, James "Jim" House and his wife, Belinda Smith House; daughter, Julia Kathryn House; daughter-in-law, Carolyn House Pitts; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Fabian House; and son, Claude Donald House.

JAMES W. RICHARDS
James W. Richards, 48, of Tampa, passed away Friday, March 29, 2002. He was a Tampa native and graduate of H.B. Plant High School. Jim is survived by his mother, Gerry Richards; brother, Steve Richards and his wife, Orie Byars; stepdaughter, Delavane Diaz; sisters, Patricia Lane and Susan Savelli and husband, Brad Savelli; nephews, Jonathan, Nick, and Alex Savelli; also his beloved companion, Sherry Campbell. Jim was a tugboat captain and an avid fisherman. He loved the sea and all of nature's wonders that it brought. His friends described him as free spirited, and he brought joy and laughter to those he touched. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 3, at 4 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. The family will receive friends today, April 2, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's memory to LifePath Hospice Inc., 3010 W. MARTHA WHITE UZZELL
Martha White Uzzell, 77, of Panama City Beach, passed away March 31, 2002. She was a devoted wife and mother who will be greatly missed. Martha was born in Raleigh, N.C., to Joseph Moore White and Mayme Taylor White. She was predeceased by a sister, Nelle Irene White; a brother, Joseph Moore White Jr.; and an infant son, Robert Michael Uzzell. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Thomas Randolph Uzzell Jr.; a son, Thomas Randolph Uzzell III (Libby) of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; two daughters, Jane Dowling and Melinda Blackmon (Ken), both of Birmingham; and six grandchildren, Ben and Tyler Uzzell, Jason Dowling and Mary Jo, David and Jonathan Blackmon. A Witness to the Resurrection Service conducted by Dr. Ken Churchill will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Gulf Beach Presbyterian Church. This will be preceded by visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to Gulf Beach Presbyterian Church, 271 S. State 79, Panama City Beach, FL 32413.

JAMES G. VINCENT
Mr. James G. Vincent, 96, passed away in a local nursing home on Saturday, March 30, 2002. He had been a resident of Panama City for 11 years, having moved here from Miami, Fla. Mr. Vincent is survived by a sister, Doris Hart of Atlanta, Ga.; a son, James Vincent Jr. and wife, Patricia, of Marlboro, N.J.; a daughter, Joanne Kaehlert and husband, Donald, of Panama City; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family requests memorialization by cremation. At the request of the deceased, no services will be held.

DOYLE LEE EFERSTEIN
Doyle Lee Eferstein, 79, of Panama City, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, in a local nursing home. She had been a resident of Panama City for one year, moving here from Sanford, Fla. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Sanford. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Eferstein; and a brother, Robert L. Kelly. She is survived by two brothers, Thomas E. Kelly and his wife, Joyce, of Panama City, Sidney L. Kelly of Atlanta, Ga.; nieces, Tracy Rupp and Vicki Burkett; and nephews, Tim Kelly and Thomas E. Kelly Jr. Memorial services will be held Friday at 4 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Raley officiating. In lieu of flowers, make contributions to the Panama City Rescue Mission.
