Mrs. Jannie Florence Hightower, 67, of Parker, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, in a local hospital. Bore in Dale Co., Ala., she had been a longtime resident of Bay County. Mrs. Hightower was a member of the Parkway Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carthell Hightower. She is survived by her children, Dianne Hightower Watson, Betty Hagood and husband, David, Ruby DeBorde and Joe Paul Wages, and Johnny Hightower, all of Panama City, Wayne Head and wife, Lois, of Pratville, Ala., Michael Hightower and wife, Teresa, and Fonda McLachlan and husband, Mack, all of Panama City; grandchildren, Betty Hightower, James DeBorde and fiancee, Audrey Trent, Melissa DeBorde and fiancee, Lee Adams, Jan Davenport, Deborah Davenport, Jamie Hagood, Christopher Hagood, and Deanna Briggs and husband, Dale; great-grandchildren, Rebecca Hightower, Alan Bratcher, Teirney Parrish, Alexis DeBorde, Caleb Hightower, Cassidy DeBorde, Devin Briggs, and Cheyenne Briggs; numerous nieces and nephews; and many more beloved family members and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Hightower will be conducted Saturday, May 18, 2002, at 10 a.m. in the Parkway Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receve friends Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

MARY HELEN MOORE
Mrs. Mary Helen Moore, 60, of White City, Fla., died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, in Port St. Joe. Born in Port St. Joe, Fla., she was a lifelong resident of Gulf County and attended the Oak Grove Assembly of God Church. Mrs. Moore is survived by her husband, Lamar Moore of White City; mother, Janell Kirkland of White City; one brother, Hal Kirkland and wife, Marti, of White City; one sister, Jan Miller and husband, Ray, of White City and many other loving family members and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Moore will be conducted Saturday, May 18, at 10 a.m. in the Oak Grove Assembly of God Church with the Rev. David Fernandez officiating. Interment will follow in the Holly Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

JAMES STONE
James "Cave Man" Stone, age 60, of Southport, Fla., died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, in Banks County, Ga., following injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Mr. Stone was born on May 15, 1941, in Wilkes County, N.C. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Phillip and Estelle Watkins Stone. He was a United States Air Force veteran and was a Shriner. Mr. Stone was a retired truck driver. Survivors include his wife Carolyn Stone, Southport, Fla.; two daughters, Roxanne Stone, Hendersonville, N.C.; Sandra Stone, Gerton, N.C.; one son, Curt Stone, Hendersonville, N.C.; one brother, Joe V. Stone, Wilkeboro, N.C.; two grandsons, Cody and Kyle Stone, both of Gerton, N.C. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, at the Bearwallow Baptist Church in Gerton, N.C. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shirner's Children's Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, S.C. 29605. Whitfield Funeral Home in Cornelia, Ga. is in charge of the arrangements.

Brenda Jean Biondo, 62, a homemaker, died Saturday, May 18, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Biondo, of Tallahassee. The service will be at 11 a.m. EDT Tuesday at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Riggins Road Chapel (877-8191). Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 241 John Knox Road, Suite 100, Tallahassee, FL 32303. Brenda Jean Biondo went to be with the Lord on May 18, 2002. Her mother, Elizabeth Leiling and her father, James Hucks, preceded her in death. Other survivors include four daughters, Cynthia Kaspar and husband, Mike, of St. Louis, Sharon Fitz, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Karen Morris, of Panama City, and Christine Yokel and husband, Steve, of Tampa; two stepchildren, Stephanie Mullins and husband, Brad, and Andrew Biondo and wife, Sarah, of Lynn Haven; five grandchildren, Jennifer and Lewis Schirm, of Cedar Falls, Timothy Morris, of Panama City, and Jonathan and Brandon Yokel, of Tampa; a stepgrandchild, Katherine Biondo of Lynn Haven; and a close longtime friend, Cheryl Chandler, of Tallahassee.

Funeral services for Sybl Lee Cunningham, of Panama City, Fla., who died Friday, May 17, 2002, in a local nursing home will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Bear Creek Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Active pallbearers are Mrs. Cunningham's grandsons, Ricky Cunningham, Lee Cunningham, Brent Cunningham, Perry Cunningham, Clay Cunningham, Marty Murray, the Rev. IVA MAE HERRING
Mrs. Iva Mae Herring, 84, of Port St. Joe, Fla., passed away Saturday, May 18, 2002, following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Herring was the daughter of the late Ivory Carl Nedley and Mary Amanda "Mae" (Tucker) Nedley, early pioneers of the St. Joe community. When her father was mayor, Port St. Joe saw its first street paved. Mrs. Herring was born in Manatee, Fla., and after moving to Port St. Joe was, at age 12, busy making neighborhood deliveries for her father's fledgling grocery business. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Louis Jackson "Red" Herring; and a sister, Mary Kathleen Eells. She leaves her sister, Melba Brown; and her brother, Robert E. Nedley, both of Port St. Joe. Since its beginning, "Miss Iva Mae" has been a permanent fixture in coordinating the photographs and invitations for the prestigious Tapper Invitational Golf Tournament. She was the personal secretary and bookkeeper for Sen. Tapper for over 30 years. Mrs. Herring is survived by three children and their spouses, son, Rodney Herring and wife, Pamela, of Port St. Joe, daughter, Carla, and husband, Chick Mathis, of Montgomery, Ala., and daughter, Judy, and husband, Rick Williams, of St. Joe Beach. She had six beloved grandchildren, Gary Herring, of Panama City Beach, Holly Smith, of Wewahitchka, Mandy Olson, of Johnson City, Tenn., Kevin Mathis of Fort Walton Beach, and Alyson and Lindsay Williams, of the Beaches. Mrs. Herring also had seven great-grandchildren. Serving as active pallbearers are Rex Buzzett, Justin Gerlach, Gary Herring, Greg Johnson, Kevin Mathis, Cliff Sanborn, Justin Smith and Jim White. There will be a visitation in the First United Methodist Church of Port St. Joe on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. EDT. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. EDT Thursday at Holly Hill Cemetery in Port St. Joe. The family invites friends to honor Mrs. Herring by making contributions to the Gulf Coast Community College Foundation.

ROSA LANGSTON
Mrs. Rosa Langston, died Monday, May 13, 2002. Mrs. Rosa Lee Langston, daughter of the late Rosa Lee and Will Oscar Harris, was born Dec. 1, 1930, in Apalachicola. Mrs. Langston attended public schools in Apalachicola.. On the evening of May 13, 2002, the Lord peacefully called Rosa home. On June 4, 1954, Rosa was united in holy matrimony with Albert Langston Sr. Rosa and Albert resided in Apalachicola for 11 years and later relocated to Panama City. This holy union was blessed with 13 children. Rosa was employed as a cook at Sirloin Steakhouse in Panama City for a number of years. Rosa accepted Christ early into her life and joined St. John's Baptist Church. Later on Rosa became a devoted member of Apostle Pentecostal Church until she was stricken with illness. Sister Langston was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Albert Langston Sr. She leaves to cherish her loving memory seven sons, Mr. Albert Langston Jr. (Pat), Mr. Freddie Langston (Barbara), Mr. Ellis Langston (Gwen), Mr. Oscar Langston (Jenetta), Mr. Roosevelt Langston (deceased), Mr. Donald Langston, Mr. Darryl Langston (Jeannie); six daughters, Mrs. Claudine Ashe, Ms. Betty Sheffield, Ms. Earline Howard, Mrs. Linda McGandy (deceased), Mrs. Sharon Heaton (Stanley) and Mrs. Jackie Brown (Joe); two sisters, Mrs. Thelma McCather (Ewing) and Ms. Olivia Young, of West Palm Beach; one brother-in-law, Mr. Oscar Lee Bolden (Lucille) of Moss, Miss.; 46 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Rosa Langston will be held on Tuesday, May 20, at 1 p.m. at New Beginning Assembly of the Saints with Bishop Lonnie Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. Public visitation will be today from 1 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. The remains will lie in state one hour prior to the services.The family will receive friends at 934 Cone Avenue.

LAURA MAE MORGAN
Laura Mae Morgan, 75, of Kinard, passed away Friday, May 17, 2002. She was a lifetime resident of Calhoun County. Laura Mae was preceeded in death by her husband, John Wesley Morgan; her son, James Wesley Morgan; one sister, Victoria Ethridge; and one granddaughter, Christian Morgan. She is survived by three sisters, Florida Capps, of Tallahassee, Annie Belle Burns, of Wewahitchka, and Evie Lee Ethridge, of Kinard; two daughters, Margaret Ann Linton and Delilah Pitts, both of Kinard; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at Cypress Creek Baptist Church in Kinard today at 2pm.

Erma L. O'Donnell, age 84, of 2229 Amhurst St., Lynn Haven, Fla., passed away Saturday, May 18, 2002, at a local hospital. Mrs. O'Donnell had been a resident of Bay County for the past eight years, coming here from Alexandria , Va., and was a member of St. Dominic's Catholic Church. She is survived by her two daughters, Kay Denney and husband, Elford, of Lynn Haven, Fla., and Jody Mathes, of Cahokia, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Joseph Kresyman, Linda Draper, Michael Curran, Cathy Williams, Theresa Mayberry, Danny Curran and Robin Lee DeRosa; 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson; one aunt, Ann Nardi, of Andover, Ma., three Cousins, Gilda Blackstock of Andover, Ma., Nadine Williams and Leora Yaegale, both of Plantation, Fla.; and one nephew, John Blankenbaker, of Indiana. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at St. Dominic's Catholic Church with Father Pete Zalewski officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Danny Curran, Michael Curran, Joe Kresyman, E.F. Denney, Christopher Meelhein and Ross Ragsdale. CHARLES PUMPHREY
Charles Pumphrey, 60, owner of Tallahassee Moving & Storage, Atlas Van Lines franchise and retired lieutenant of the Tallahassee Fire Department, died Saturday, May 18, 2002. The service will be at 11 a.m. EDT Wednesday at Northwoods Baptist Church, with burial at Culley's MeadowWood Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. EDT Tuesday at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Riggins Road Chapel (877-8191). Memorial contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308; Salvation Army, 206 W. Virginia St., Tallahassee, FL 32301; or Northwoods Baptist Church, 3762 Capital Circle N.W., Tallahassee, FL 32303. Charles Pumphrey was born in Panama City on April 22, 1942. Upon graduation from Bay High School, he relocated to Tallahassee. He began his career with the Tallahassee Fire Department in September 1961 and retired in January 1997 with the rank of Lieutenant after 35 years of dedicated service. In 1963, he and his wife, Sandy, started Tallahassee Moving and Storage. This successful enterprise is now in its 39th year of business and currently operates as the Atlas Van Lines franchise for North Florida. In addition to his family and business successes, Mr. Pumphrey was well known and respected as a leader in his community, having dedicated countless hours to civic and volunteer service. He was recently honored, with a proclamation by the mayor of Tallahassee and by the Capital Rotary Club, as a recipient of the Distinguished 2002 William A. Dugger Professional Integrity Award. He was a past president of the Tallahassee 100 Club; past chair of the Salvation Army Board; past chair of the Tallahassee-Leon Federal Credit Union Board; past president of the Southside Business Association; director of Big Bend Hospice board of directors; graduate of Leadership Tallahassee XVI; a participant in the Mayor's Initiative on Race Relations; founder of Mother's Against Drunk Driving in Leon County; Small Business Excellence Award winner; charter member of Paul Harris Fellow and Key Member Award; Capital Rotary Club; 1999 Volunteer of the Year nominee; Public Service Award winner, Sons of the American Revolution, Tallahassee chapter; Capital City Jaycees Young Fire Fighter of the Year award winner; and a member of the Tallahassee Area Chamber of Commerce, North Side Toastmasters and Northwoods Baptist Church. Mr. Pumphrey enjoyed many talents and hobbies including boating, flying and camping. At the time of his death, Mr. Pumphrey held an active multiengine instrument and commercial pilot's license with a flight instructor's rating for both land and sea aircraft. Combining his love for flying and his entrepreneurial spirit, he was also the co-owner and founder of Air Ads of Tallahassee, a banner towing aerial advertising company. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sandra Turner Pumphrey; two daughters, Cindy DeBolt and husband, Rick, of Bismark, N.D., and Charlene Iskra and husband, Jeff, of Seminole; a son, Clay Pumphrey and Wife, Mary, of Irving, Texas; his father, John Pumphrey, of Panama City; his identical twin brother, Don Pumphrey and wife, Pam, of Tallahassee; a sister, Jeanette Brightwell of Columbus, Ga.; and his father- and mother-in-law, Lenton and Elizabeth Turner, of Tallahassee.
