Catherine Scott died July 26, 2003.
Survivors include her four sons: Anthony (Anna) Calhound, Willie (Faye) Scott, Horace (Madeline) Scott and Kenneth (Ruth) Scott; a daughter, Cynthia (C. Randell) Hardy; brothers James (Frances) Calhound and John (Frances) Calhound; sisters Agnes Colleman, Helen (Rev. Alonzo Jr.) Autry, and Drudella Calhound; 14 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Family will receive friends today from 5-8 p.m. at the Mary L. Breaker Memorial Chapel of Huff & Battise Funeral Home and Saturday at Third Mt. Zion Baptist Church from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service at 11 a.m., Rev. T. K. Coleman officiating. Interment to follow in the family plot in O'Neal Cemetery.

Stays, Harry N. Jr.
Harry N. Stays Jr. of Fernandina Beach died suddenly on July 28, 2003. He graduated from Peck High School in 1966, attended Florida A & M University and was an entrepreneur.
Survivors include a loving and devoted mother, Genevieve Stays; sisters Deloris B. Dukes of New York, Hannah Carson of Queens, N.Y., and Beverly Gowen of Fernandina Beach; two brothers-in-law, Curtis Gowen and Rayfield Green; a devoted nephew, Rosevelt Daniels; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Darrien K. Bolden, pastor. Viewing will be held today in the Mary L. Breaker Chapel of Huff & Battise Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 12:30 until the hour of service. Interment in Bosque Bello Cemetery.

Haldeman, Bonnie D.
Bonnie D. Haldeman, 79, passed away Oct. 1, 2003, in Fernandina Beach. She was a native of Bunkie, La., and made her home in Yulee since moving from Washington, Mo., in 1979. She was a member of Yulee Baptist Church. Mrs. Haldeman is survived by her husband of 61 years, Paul A. Haldeman Sr. of Yulee; four sons, Paul A. Haldeman Jr. (Jackie) of St. James, Mo., Ronald W. Haldeman of Granite City, Ill., Michael J. Haldeman of Collinsville, Ill., and Richard S. Haldeman of Yulee; two brothers, Calvin Tolbert of Granite City and Ted (Marie) Tolbert of Yulee; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Green Pine Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Keisler officiating. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Green Pine Funeral Home, 3407 Green Pine Road in Yulee.

Jenkins, Mel
Mel Jenkins, 79, of Burkburnett, Texas, passed away Sept. 30, 2003, in Wichita Falls, Texas. Mr. Jenkins was born in Norfolk, Va., on April 8, 1924. He served in the United States Air Force for 30 years and was a POW in World War II. He retired in 1972. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Devol, Okla., and a member of the River Creek Golf Association. Survivors include: his wife, Patsy Jenkins of Burkburnett; two sons, Mark Cole of Wichita Falls and Stephen Cole of Burkburnett; three daughters, Clara (Dale) Reed of Lillian, Ala., Marcie (Rudolph) Hetcel of Fernandina Beach and Beverly (Brett) Bagley of Waldorf, Md.; three sisters, Doris Baker of Louisville, Ky., and Mildred Holland and Shirley Bernier, both of Virginia Beach, Va.; one brother, Robert W. Jenkins of Virginia Beach, Va.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Crawford, a brother, Webster Jenkins and a daughter, Anna Leavitt. A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Burkburnett Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials can be made to the Hospice of Wichita Falls, P.O. Box 4804, Wichita Falls, TX 76308.

Littlejohn, Margaret Willis
Margaret Willis Littlejohn, born May 14, 1943, passed away at her home in Jacksonville, Ala., on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, following a brief illness. Margaret left this area in 1988 and moved to Alabama with her husband, James. She and James owned and operated "Journey's End," an Appalachian gift shop that specialized in the handmade baskets that she and James would make.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Lara Marie Littlejohn, Jacksonville, Ala.; three sons, James Bunch and Christopher Bunch of Jacksonville, Ala. and Michael Bunch of Fernandina Beach; two sisters, Adeline (Rankin) Morris, Panama City and Sally (David) Fulford, Fernandina Beach; four brothers, Will (Linda) Willis, Jr., Denver, Co., Gregg Willis, Danny (Pam) Willis and Robert (Sherry) Willis, all of Fernandina Beach; six grandchildren, nine nieces and nephews and a host of grieving friends and other extended family members.
A Rosary will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. A vigil service follows at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home with Father Brian Eburn presiding. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, with interment in Bosque-Bello Cemetery.

Pool, Dorothy Nettles
Dorothy Nettles Pool of Amelia Island died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003.
She was born in Atmore, Ala., on May 17, 1923, daughter of Dr. Robbins Nettles and Myrtle Deer Nettles. Mrs. Pool was descended from pioneer families of Monroe County and settlers of the Tunnel Springs community.

She spent much of her childhood in Clearwater, where her father practiced at the Morton F. Plant Hospital.
A graduate of the University of Alabama, Mrs. Pool was a member of Mortar Board and of Chi Omega.
A resident of Buckhead in Atlanta for over 50 years, Mrs. Pool was an active member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church.
When her children were grown she had a career on the national administrative staff of Kappa Alpha.
Mrs. Pool resided with her husband of 31 years, the late Cecil Aubrey Pool, on Amelia Island for the last 10 years. The couple were members at St. Peters Episcopal Church of Fernandina Beach, where she served in the Daughters of the King and on the greeting committee. They also played with the Amelia Island Golf Club. Mrs. Pool was a noted cook and enjoyed dancing, needlework and travel.
She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Marjorie Massey Nettles Hatch. She is survived by her three children, Mary Kathryn McKee Smith and husband Charles of Jacksonville; Ann McKee Plumer and husband Bill of Atlanta; David Smyth McKee Jr., M.D., and wife Mary Evelyn of Birmingham, Ala.; eight grandchildren: Robbins McKee Smith, David Porter Smith, William George Plumer IV, Taylor Nettles Plumer, Dorothy Elizabeth Plumer, David Smyth McKee III, William Andrew McKee, John Austin Hay McKee; and two stepchildren: Cecil Aubrey Pool Jr. and Brenda Pool of Richmond, Va.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peters Church, with interment in the Columbarium at the church. Memorials may be sent to St. Peters Church, Christian Outreach, 801 Atlantic Ave., Fernandina Beach FL 32034.

Stallings, Mary Ella Lee
Mary Ella Lee Stallings, 61, Clinch Drive, Fernandina Beach, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at Baptist Medical Center Nassau. A native of Alma, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Hoke and Juanita Virginia Altman Lee, and resided in Northeast Florida for most of her life, except for the time she spent traveling as a Navy wife. Mrs. Stallings was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith who loved shopping and collecting dolls.
Survivors include: her children, Daniel (Apryl) Stallings, Middleburg, and David (Kim) Stallings, Orange Park; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Ferrell (Lindell) Lee, Yulee, and Ferris "Butch" Lee, Jacksonville; six nieces and nephews; and her loving companion, Robert "Pete" Mixon, Fernandina Beach.
Funeral services were held today at 11 a.m. in the Burgess Chapel at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home with the Rev. Pete Jones officiating.
Interment will follow in Hughes Cemetery in Yulee. The family received friends Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Sarah H. Cook
Sarah H. Cook, 74, of Yulee, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2004, at Baptist Medical Center Nassau. A native of Thomson, Ga., she moved here in 1954. She was well known in the Yulee area as a commercial fisherman and she was also known for her expertise in plants. Her love of plants led her to open Sara's Lochness Nursery on Blackrock Road many years ago, where she remained active with her nursery until recently. She was a member of Blackrock Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Norman P. Cook; two sons, Gene (Judy) Cook of Pace and Gordon (Missy) Cook of O'Neil; daughters, Ann (Dexter) Rowland of Fernandina Beach and Phyllis Cook of Yulee; her mother, Ethel B. Woods and brother, William Usry Jr., both of Thomson, Ga.; sisters, Gladys Happ of Aiken, S.C., and Frances B. Williams of Thomson, Ga.; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today from Blackrock Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank Camarotti officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in Chester Cemetery. The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Annette Brewer Greene
Annette Brewer Greene, 81, of Fernandina Beach, wife of David Edward Greene, died Saturday, March 27, 2004, at Shands Medical Center in Jacksonville. Born in Anderson, Mrs. Greene was the daughter of the late J.S. and Ada Fleming Brewer. She was a graduate of Easley High School, a homemaker and was a former member of Arial Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are a son and daughter-in-law, Michael Edward and Cindy Greene of Fernandina Beach; two sisters, Myrtle Freeman of Pickens and Beth Fortner of Easley, S.C.; and three grandchildren, Michael Edward Greene Jr. of California and David Lee Green and Jonathan Dech, both of Fernandina Beach.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home in Easley, S.C., with the Rev. Wilbur Key and Dr. John Adams officiating. Interment followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation was held at the funeral home prior to the service.

Thomas Howard Miller
Thomas Howard Miller, 66, of Fernandina Beach, passed away Friday, March 26, 2004, in a Jacksonville hospital. He was a native of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and moved with his family to Fernandina Beach in 1983 when stationed at Kings Bay Naval Base. He was retired from the U.S. Navy after serving 30 years. Mr. Miller was predeceased by his wife, Belle C. Miller, who passed away in 1997.
Survivors include: two sons, Steven John Miller and Derek A. Miller, both of Fernandina Beach; his mother, Beatrice Miller of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; a brother, Arthur Miller of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; one granddaughter; and six nieces and nephews. Mr. Miller loved the beach and nude sunbathing. At his request, there will be no services.

Joseph Adam Pickett
Joseph Adam Pickett, 38, of Fernandina Beach, passed away March 27, 2004, at his home under hospice care. He was born in Baltimore, Md., and resided there until moving to Florida and graduating from Baker County High School in 1983.
Mr. Pickett served in the United States Air Force as a Senior Airman until 1990, and was presented with the prestigious John T. Levitow Award. Moving back to Baltimore, he completed his degree at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in 1994. He was also a member of the Franciscan Order.
He returned to Florida to begin his medical career as a Physician Assistant-Certified, and was employed by Emergency Physician's Group until his retirement in 1998.
Adam lived his life with passion, compassion, and conviction.
He is survived by his father, Mr. Paul Picket and wife Carol of New Port Richey; godchild, Maggie Stein of Cantonsville, Md.; very special friends in Baltimore and Jacksonville; and his loving partner, Ray Barnes of Fernandina Beach.
There will be no public funeral services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, Inc., 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville FL 32257.

David Rickman
David Rickman, 29, Waterway Court, Fernandina Beach, husband of Deborah Brown Rickman for almost 13 years, died Monday, March 29, 2004, at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Ga., as a result of injuries received in a boxing match Saturday evening.
A native of Detroit, Mich., David was the son of the late Perry David Rickman Sr. and Mrs. Cheryl Ann Dupuis Pumarejo of Eustis. He lived in Fernandina Beach for the last four years and in Jacksonville six years before that, and had grown up in Leesburg. He attended Eustis High School and furthered his education at Florida Community College of Jacksonville, earning his degree as a Registered Nurse in the School of Nursing. David was a P.R.N. at St. Luke's Hospital, Shands Medical Center and Baptist Medical Center-Beaches. He had been an amateur boxer for three years and a professional boxer for the last year. In his spare time, David, along with his trainer, Jean LeBrun, helped to train the young boxers in this area. He enjoyed surfing and working out at his home, Mr. LeBrun's home and the Amelia Wellness Center. David loved to take his own sons to the boxing gym with him and also taught them how to surf in the waters of Amelia Island. He was a lifelong member of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include his wife and their two sons, Thomas David Rickman and Austin Douglas Rickman, all of Fernandina Beach; his mother and step-father, Cheryl and Luis Pumarejo of Eustis; his grandmother, Jacqueline Dupuis of Leesburg; a brother, Paul Rickman of Sarasota; mother-in-law Val Brown of Fruitland Park; sisters-in-law, Linda Brown of Fruitland Park and Corina (Scott) Bassett of Charleston, S.C.; and two nephews, Shane Bassett and Levi Rickman.
A memorial service is being planned for a later date and will be announced in the News-Leader. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in David's name to: The Pit Bull Gym, 3411 Leo Drive, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034.

Billy M. "Pa-Pa" Thornton
Billy M. "Pa-Pa" Thornton, 69, of Yulee, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2004, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
A native of Blackshear, Ga., Mr. Thornton had lived in Yulee for the past 30 years and overall in the Nassau County area for the past 48 years.
During his career he was employed as a truck driver working for the Burgess and Cook Trucking Co. for 15 years, then for the Pilot Trucking Co. for the following 18 years until his retirement in 1989. He was an active member of the Lighthouse Tabernacle in Fernandina Beach for the past 40 years, always willing to serve the Lord in whatever capacity was needed. He was also a member of the Teamsters Union Local #512 for many years.
Throughout his life he enjoyed working outside, doing wood working and making things, and designing and building things from nothing but his ideas on what they should be and what it should look like. Above all, he was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather to all his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Lois Thornton of Yulee; three sons, John (Deborah) Thornton of Baldwinsville, N.Y., Billy J. (Jennifer) Thornton of Fernandina Beach and Daniel (Renee) Thornton, also of Fernandina Beach; two daughters, Marie (James) Winkler of Fernandina Beach and Shirley (Kevin) Woodard of Waycross, Ga.; eight brothers, Vernon, James, Herschel, J.P., J.E., Ben, Roger and Harold Thornton; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and loving extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Levitt, pastor of Lighthouse Tabernacle, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Willard Rowland. Interment will follow in Green Pine Cemetery in Yulee.

Joseph Christopher "Dallas" Walsh
Joseph Christopher "Dallas" Walsh, 46, Fernandina Beach, owner and operator of "Dallas Does Detailing" on Amelia Island for the last 10 years, passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 25, 2004, in Lake City.
A native of Cleveland, Tenn., he was the son of the late John Joseph Walsh and Mrs. Alice Moore McNeil Walsh of Fernandina Beach, and had lived here for 15 years, after relocating from Texas.
Mr. Walsh was a 1976 graduate of L.D. Bell High School in Hurst, Texas, where he was an outstanding scholar and excelled in football. He furthered his education by attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Mr. Walsh did modeling in Texas, California and New York for several magazines including Gentleman's Quarterly (GQ) and department store chains including Neiman-Marcus. He was very active in local theater groups in Colorado, Texas, Jacksonville Beach, and in Fernandina Beach with the Amelia Community Theater. He enjoyed football and basketball and played locally with the oldtimers teams, and coached Little League football and basketball in Fernandina Beach.
In addition to "Dallas Does Detailing," Mr. Walsh also provided music for weddings and parties with his other company, "Dallas Does DJ."
Survivors, besides his mother, include: his wife, Angelia Henn Walsh, son, Carson McNeil Walsh, a stepson, Jeffrey Allen Weddington, all of Fernandina Beach; two brothers, James Stephen (Cheryl) Walsh of Orange Park and Peter Scott (Donna) Walsh of Keller, Texas; two sisters, Mary Ann (Daniel) Jendel of Hurst, Texas, and Linda (Donnie) Lawrence of Trophy Club, Texas; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Mark Waters officiating. Burial will follow in Bosque-Bello Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 p.m. at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dallas' name to St. Michael's Catholic Church Building Fund, 505 Broome St., Fernandina Beach, FL 32034.

Johnnie C. Williamson
Johnnie C. Williamson, 69, of Yulee, passed away Monday, March 29, 2004, at St. Luke's Hospital in Jacksonville. A native of Thomaston, Ga., he moved to this area as a youngster and graduated in 1951 from Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville. He moved here in 1952 to work with Container Corp. of America, where he retired in 1997 as Instrumentation Technician. He was Past Worshipful Master of Amelia Lodge #47 F&AM, Past Worthy Patron of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #55, and Past High Priest of the Royal Arch Masons from 1985-87.
Survivors include: his wife, Ruth C. Williamson; two sons, J. Randall (Vivian) Williamson of Severn, Md., and Terry E. Williamson of Hilliard; daughter, Debbie W. (Lawrence) Dunman of Fernandina Beach; sisters, Joyce Rogers and Rubye Peele, both of Jacksonville; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Burgess Chapel, with Pastor Ed O'Rourke officiating. Burial will follow in Hughes Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. tonight at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home.
