David A. Bargdill

David A. Bargdill, 59, of Englewood, Fla., died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, in Englewood.

He was born March 20, 1944, in Pleasant Corners, Ohio, and moved to Englewood, 21 years ago from Columbus, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was employed by the state of Ohio, in property maintenance. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He had a great love for animals.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Joyce (Rowden); sisters, Jane Stumpf of Sebring, Ohio, and Janice Wilson of Grove City, Ohio; brothers, Kenneth Bargdill of Painesville, Ohio, and Wayne Bargdill of Venice, Fla.; stepmother, Virginia Bargdill of Venice; father-in-law, Daniel Rowden of Brooksville, Fla.; brother-in-law, Jay Rowden of Spring Hill, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., with a service following at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at Ewing Funeral Home in Venice.

Memorial donations may be made to the Suncoast Humane Society, 6781 San Casa Dr., Englewood, FL 34224; or the donor's favorite animal charity.

Arrangements are by Ewing Funeral Home, Venice.

Dale L. Harvey

Dale Lowell Harvey, 53, of Englewood, Fla., died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003.

Dale was born Sept. 22, 1950, in Sarasota, Fla., and was a lifelong resident of Englewood. He was a boatwright, and a member of the Traditional Small Craft Society. He was also a member of the Lemon Bay Historical Society.

He is survived by his sisters, Betty Meza of Englewood and Patricia Whitted of Ash Fork, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Lemon Bay Funeral Home, Englewood chapel.

Inurnment will be at a later date at Lemon Bay Cemetery in Englewood.

Memorial donations may be made to The Florida Gulf Coast Maritime Museum, P.O. Box 100, Cortez, FL 34215.

Arrangements are by Lemon Bay Funeral Home, Englewood Chapel.

Robert D. Kinnaman

Robert D. Kinnaman, 74, of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004.

He was born Nov. 8, 1929, in Fort Wayne, Ind. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Missouri. He moved to Fort Myers, Fla., in 1956, and worked for Florida Power & Light Company. Robert retired from there after 32 years of service. He moved to Arcadia 13 years ago. He was an active member of Nocatee United Methodist Church, Peace River Masonic Lodge 66 of Arcadia, 33rd Degree Scottish Rite of Fort Myers Arabia Shrine Temple and York Rite.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; son, Michael (Mary Linda); daughter, Dana; three grandchildren, Jaime (Josh), Erik and Melyn; and a great-granddaughter, Britney.

A service of remembrance will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Nocatee United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carl Rainear officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Children's Hospital, 12502 N. Pine Drive, Tampa, FL 33612; or Nocatee United Methodist Church, 4502 S.W. Welles Ave., Arcadia, FL 34266.

Daniel E. Whidden

Daniel Eugene Whidden, 57, of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at DeSoto Memorial Hospital in Arcadia.

He was born Dec. 14, 1946, in Arcadia, and was a lifelong resident of the area. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired as a vocational technical instructor, and was a part-time deputy for the Sheriff's Department, and he was a member of the sheriff's auxiliary. He was of the Protestant faith.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Whidden of Arcadia; daughters, Lisa Whidden and Angela Whidden, both of Arcadia; and four grandchildren, Xierria Whidden, Corey Daniel Whidden, Isaiah Whidden and Jameesyn Vann, all of Arcadia.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at Robarts Funeral Home, Arcadia chapel, 163 N. Brevard Ave., Arcadia. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Joshua Creek Cemetery in Arcadia.

Robarts Funeral Home, Arcadia Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Cindy Burghardt-Fellows

Cindy Burghardt-Fellows, 51, of North Port, Fla., died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Englewood Community Hospital in Englewood, Fla. Arrangements are by James A. McKee Funeral Homes, North Port.

Charles C. Daughtry

Charles C. Daughtry, 71, of Quincy, Fla., and formerly of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, in Tallahassee, Fla.

Charles was born Dec. 28, 1932, in Fort Ogden, Fla. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, in Korea and Japan. He was a supervisor for Florida Power & Light Company, retiring in 1988 with 35 years service. He relocated to Quincy in 1988. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association.

Mr. Daughtry is survived by his wife of 25 years, Delores L. Daughtry of Quincy; a daughter, Sandra Daughtry of Lake Placid, Fla.; two sons, Robert (Diane) Daughtry of Tara, Canada, and Michael (Dena) Daughtry of Lake Placid; a stepdaughter, Malinda (Eugene) Horner of Punta Gorda; and a stepson, Gene (Linda) Sheppard, of Punta Gorda; two sisters, Evelyn Parker of Arcadia, Fla., and Arlin Elerby of Lake Placid; a brother, Homer Daughtry of Blountstown, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at the Punta Gorda chapel of Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dennis E. Postell officiating.

Arrangements are by Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, Punta Gorda chapel.

Edna B. Johnson

Edna B. "Brownie" Johnson, 80, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at Sun Coast Hospital in Clearwater, Fla.

She was born Dec. 13, 1923, in Pennsylvania. She was one of seven children raised on her family's farm. She attended the University of Buffalo and earned her nursing degree at Meyer Memorial. She was a registered nurse, and was instrumental in setting up the Well Baby Clinic in Buffalo, N.Y. She also used her nursing skills with the school district. She married Roy Johnson in 1953, and they moved to Florida in 1960. She was a general manager at Johnson Wholesale until retiring. Brownie was active in Pilot Club and served as its president. She was a devoted leader for Girl Scouts of America for many years and later became a member of the advisory board. She represented the United States at "Our Cabana Mexico, Girl Scouts International." She was a devoted volunteer for the community, and recently celebrated 50 years of marriage in October 2003.

She is survived by her husband, Roy Johnson of Port Charlotte; her daughter, Brenda (William) Parker of Anna Maria Island, Holmes Beach, Fla.; her son, Brian (Barbara) Johnson of Bountiful, Utah; grandchildren, Brittany Parker, Chase Parker, Jessica Johnson and Kyle Johnson. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Bruce.

Arrangements are by National Cremation Society, Port Charlotte.

Inez M. Miller

Inez Maybelle Miller, 86, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004.

Inez was born Feb. 6, 1917, in Missouri Valley, Iowa, and moved to Punta Gorda in 1979 from Elmwood Park, Ill. Mrs. Miller was a homemaker.

She is survived by her daughters, Roberta (Don) Johnson of Levittown, Pa., Mary (Bob) Burek of Lakeland, Fla., Judith Somora of Fairdale, Ill., and Patricia (Lloyd) Sloane of North Fort Myers, Fla.; sons, Larry (Pat) Miller of Sun City, Ariz., Kenneth (Barb) Miller of Round Lake Beach, Ill., and Clifford Miller of North Fort Myers; 21 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held in Elmwood Park.

Memorial donations may be made to Charlotte County American Cancer Society, 22107 Elmira Blvd., Port Charlotte, FL 33952.

Arrangements are by National Cremation Society, Port Charlotte, Fla.

Johanna A. Montefusco

Johanna Adina Montefusco, 79, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Charlotte Harbor Healthcare of Port Charlotte.

She was born March 14, 1924, in Prospect Park, N.J., and moved to Port Charlotte in 1986, from Fair Lawn, N.J. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, National Association of Watch Clock Company, and Forever Young Tap Dancing Club, all of Port Charlotte.

She is survived by her loving husband, Anthony J. Montefusco of Port Charlotte; two daughters, Barbara Ann Johnson of Port Charlotte and Johanna Ryan-Cotte of Fort Myers, Fla.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte. Committal service and interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Treatment & Research Center, 640 Jackson St., St. Paul, MN 55101-9021.

Alma L. Sparks

Alma Lucele Sparks, 75, of Bluefield, W.Va., died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at a hospital in Bluefield.

Alma was born April 3, 1928, in Rainelle, W.Va. She was the daughter of Lester M. and Binnie May Sheppard Chinault. She was of the Baptist faith, and was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Chinault of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Roger Chinault of Bluefield; two sisters, Wanda Wright and Vonita Brewster, both of Bluefield; six grandchildren, Heather, Michelle, Roger, Mandie, Melissa and Amber; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James S. Sparks; a sister, Loraine Lane; and a brother, John Preston Chinault.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, W.Va., with the Rev. Danny Scott officiating. Mable G. Williamson

Mable G. Williamson, 85, of Harbour Heights, Fla., died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, Fla.

She was born Feb. 20, 1918, in Cleveland, Ohio, and came to the Port Charlotte area 22 years ago from there. She was a homemaker and a member of TriCity Baptist Church in Port Charlotte.

Mrs. Williamson is survived by her husband, Paul B. Williamson of Harbour Heights; two sons, Bruce (Marge) Williamson of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Glen (Linda) Williamson of Lake Elmo, Minn.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Paul Schelm Funeral Home, 3044 Caring Way, Port Charlotte. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte.

Bernard J. Hurley

Bernard James Hurley, 70, of Englewood, Fla., died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004.

He was born Oct. 1, 1933, in Chicago, Ill., and moved to Englewood in 1986 from Chicago. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a policeman with the Chicago Police Department, and retired after many years of service. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Fraternal Order of Police.

He is survived by his five sons, Patrick T. (Dawn), Robert G., Bernard J.(Conni), Timothy D. (Jan) and Ronald J.; two daughters, Margaret M. (Charles) Hayes and Susan A. (Basel) Abbasi; brother, James B. (Lynn) Hurley; one sister, Bernadette V. (George) Lewis; and nine grandchildren, Sean, Caitlin, Kristin, Maggie, Jennifer, Adam, Bridget, Nadia and Sami.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Lemon Bay Funeral Home in Englewood.

Roe Larsen

Roe Larsen, 64, of Englewood, Fla., died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at Englewood Community Hospital in Englewood.

She was born April 24, 1939, in Glen Cove, N.Y., to Benjamin and Marguerite (Ludlam) Rhodes. She was a resident of Charlotte County for 16 years, moving from Palm Springs, Fla. Ms. Larsen was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother to her family. She loved the Englewood area, and the beauty of her surroundings. She attended Rotonda West Community Church.

She is survived by her mother, Marguerite Rhodes of Bethpage, N.Y.; one son, Raymond R. (Laura) Larsen of Hauppauge, N.Y.; daughters, Edith M. (Joseph) Bayer of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Lori-Ann (Timothy) Clements of North Port, Fla.; brother, Benjamin C. (Dorothy) Rhodes of Oyster Bay, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Christina Paxton, Raymond D. Larsen, Myles D. Bayer, Larissa R. Clements, Breanna L. Clements, Timothy T. Clements and two great-grandchildren, Devin D. Paxton and Paige R. Paxton.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Englewood Community Funeral Home, 3070 South McCall Road, Englewood, with the Rev. Edison Brooker, of Rotonda West Community Church, officiating.

Anita G. Tetreault

Anita Gertrude Tetreault, 74, of Port Charlotte, Fla., and formerly of Englewood, Fla., died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Englewood Community Hospital, Englewood, Fla.

She was born Jan. 25, 1929, in Springfield, Mass., to Harry and Jeanette (Trudell) Brunet. She had been a resident of the Englewood area since 1978, coming from Springfield, Mass. She was a caregiver to many people in the Englewood area. Mrs. Tetreault attended St. Davids Episcopal Church.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph Theodore Tetreault of Port Charlotte; four sons, Henry A. Tetreault of Rotonda West, Fla.; Robert J. Tetreault of North Port, Fla.; Jeanguy P. Tetreault of Englewood; and John E. Tetreault and a brother, Robert E. Brunet, of Englewood.

A Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at St. Davids Episcopal Church with the Rev. Arthur R. Lee, officiating.

James "Jimmy" E. Costin

Jimmy Costin, 66, of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004.

He was born Aug. 12, 1937, at his parent's home in Port St. Joe, Fla. He was the youngest son of Cecil G. Costin Sr. and Lola Pridgeon Costin, and was a lifelong resident of Gulf County in Florida. He graduated from Georgia military Academy and Florida State University. Jimmy had many friends and family in Punta Gorda, Fla.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Cathy Costin; a son, Jim (Donna) Costin; a daughter, Allison Tatum; his grandmother, Mattie Smith; four grandchildren, Tom and Craig Costin, Ray Tatum and Alexandria Robinson; sisters, Dorothy (Mel) Magidson and Sara (Duane) Williamson; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Costin and Sylvia Costin; his beloved aunts, Naomi Brock and Marie Costin; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Pat Smith Costin; his parents, Cecil G. Costin Sr. and Lola Pridgeon Costin; his sister, Marjorie Carr; and two brothers, Cecil G. Costin Jr. and Ashley M. Costin.

The family received friends Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at First Baptist Church. The service was on Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at the church, followed by the Burial at Holly Hill Cemetery.
