PRIOR, Mary Catherine age 54, died peacefully at her home on May 11, 2002 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. A longtime resident of Colorado Springs, Mary was formerly of Tampa, and Graduate of Tampa Catholic High. She was one of seven chldren born to William and Mary Prior. Born in San Diego, CA, April 18, 1948. Mary was predeceased in death by her brother, Joseph Frank Prior. Sur vivors are her three children, Daria, Brian and Anita, her parents of Brooksville, FL, and five siblings, Cindy Redelman, Beth Prior Breeden, William Prior, Jr, Victoria Prior and Angie Prior Dement.

ADAMS, Mary J., 47, passed away May 20, 2002 in Tampa. Survived by her husband, Tom, and son, Kyle Adams both of Zephyrhills; her parents, James Johnson and Vivian St. Louis; sister, Beth Ann; and brother; Jimmy. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002 at the Womens Club, 38545 5th Avenue, Zephyrhills, Fla. Mary graduated from U.S.F. in 1977, and was a Special Education Teacher for 22 years at Van Buren Jr. High School in Tampa. BARTLEY, John, 83, of San Antonio, Florida passed away on May 27, 2002. John is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Hazel; and two sons Roger and David Bartley; brother, Rev. Elbridge Bartley of Sikeston, Mo.; sister, Betty Rockey of Ramona, Calif.; four grand- children and two great-grand- children. DiBARTOLO, Elaine, of Tampa, Florida, left us on May 27, 2002 at 11:30 a.m. Her daughters, Susan and Salli, her sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Jim Larsen, and her husband, Gene, were with her when she passed. In addition to her family above, Elaine is survived by her daughter- in-law, Penny DiBartolo, of Boise Idaho, 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Elaine taught in various elementary schools all over the world as she fulfilled her role as the anchor in a military family. When the Air Force, in its infinite wisdom, assigned this family to MacDill AFB here in Tampa, Elaine became a Red Cross volunteer and devoted over 15 years and 8,000 hours in service to Town and Country Hospital. FINN, Charles Robert, `Mickey`, 76, of Brandon, passed away Monday, May 27, 2002. Mickey was a retired Coast Guard Warrant Officer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances. He is survived by two sons, Michael and his wife Nancy of Plant City, and Richard and his wife Joyce of Brandon; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. As per his request no formal services are scheduled.

FREEMAN, Grady Dean, 68, of Tarpon Springs, died May 28, 2002. Born in Anderson, S.C., he was a Korean War veteran. He is survived by wife, Josephine D. Freeman; sons, Richard Alan Freeman, Seffner, and Charles Freeman, Tampa; daughter Julie Knox, Zephyrhills; brother, Donald Freeman of Tampa and four grandchildren. GAFFNEY, Dorothy A., of Tampa passed away Monday, May 27, 2002. She is preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Alice McGeehan; and one daughter, Karen Gaffney. Survivors include her husband, Jack Gaffney; three daughters, MaryAlice Tyler, Terri and her husband Dov Sussman, and Sharon and her husband Joe Patchett; one brother, Thomas McGeehan; two sisters, Margaret Smigelski and Joan Goodw in; seven grandchildren, Kelly and Michael Tyler, Michael and Sarah Sussman, Joey, Brian, and Kevin Patchett. Mrs. Gaffney was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Guild, she served as secretary, auditor and president for two years. She worked as a Social Sec urity Teleservice representative and was a graduate of Wilkes-Barre Business College. GAUGHAN, Richard P. `Rick`, 66, of St. Petersburg, formerly of Tampa, passed away May 24, 2002. He is survived by two daughters, Kellie N. Gaughan of St. Petersburg and Kathie Siebenaler and husband Mark of Tampa; son, Richard P. `Pete` Gaughan of Tampa; two sisters, Norene Albers of Illinois and Trishianna Healey of Nevada; and one grandson, Mark Thomas Siebenaler. HORRELL, Anne, age 99, of Thomson, Georgia, formerly of Tampa, passed away May 27, 2002, at Watson Manor in Thomson, Ga. Mrs. Horrell is survived by her loving niece and nephew who provided tender loving care for her until her death. Mrs. Horrell was the first principal at Mendenhall Elementary School in Wellswood and remained at the school until her retirement in 1966. She will always be remembered by her former students, teachers and parents.

VEST, John Douglas, CMSGT, USAF, Ret., 59, of Tampa, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2002, after a short but fierce battle with cancer. John is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Barbara; his son, Jonathan Vest and wife Tamara of Tampa; two daughters, Susan Taylor and husband Jeff of Lake City, and Lisha Gogolin and husband Robert of Tampa. He had seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two brothers, Banks B. Vest, Jr. of Tampa, and Jimmy T. Vest of Savannah, Tenn.; and one sister, Una Lou Batton of Blairsville, Georgia. John was born and raised in Tampa. He attended two years at Hillsborough High School and graduated from Clewiston High School in 1961. He received his AA Degree from Hillsborough Community College; AS degree from St. Petersburg Junior College; BA Degree from the University of South Florida, as well as numerous other certifications and awards. He met his wife, Barbara, in the U.S. Air Force in 1963. They married in 1964 in San Antonio, Texas. John had an exciting and distinguished life. He was employed with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office as a Detention Deputy at the Falkenburg Road Jail. He retired from the Air F orce Reserves in 1996 as a Chief Master Sergeant in the 610th Aero Medical Evacuation Squadron. John served honorably in the Vietnam War as a Corpsman; Desert Shield/Storm as NCOIC of Aeromedical Operations; and in various humanitarian contingencies with the Air Force. He also retired from the Tampa Fire Department as a Captain of Fire Rescue. He was the Chairman and a Founder of the Tampa Firefighters Sertoma Club and had also held the position of Lt. Governor of the Central Florida District as well as a Charter Board Member of the Sertoma Youth Ranch. John was one of the driving forces that founded the Tampa General Hospital Burn Unit and served as Chairman of Development. John was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. The most important thing in his life was his family. He made friends easily and no matter where he traveled in the world, he would always find someone that he knew. He will be sorely missed but lovingly remembered by all who knew him. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2002 at El Bethel Baptist Church, 6611 N. 15th St., Tampa. CASTRO, Vicenta Gonzalez, age 93, of Tampa, passed away May 30, 2002 at the Rehab. and Healthcare Center of Tampa. A native and lifelong resident of Tampa, Mrs. Castro was preceded in death by her husband, Luis B. Castro `El Gallego`, and is survived by her son, Manuel Castro and wife, Pauline; daughter, Alicia C. DELGADO, Frank M., 83, passed away Wednesday May 22, 2002 at James A. Haley Veterans Hospital. Born in Canary Islands, Spain Mr. Delgado moved to Tampa in 1920. Predeceased by his loving wife of 39 years Ligia Delgado. Survivors include his companion, Cari Rodriguez; two daughters, Vinel D. Polo and Delma Edwards; three grandchildren, Andrea Hall, Michael DesChamps, Monique Havens; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Havens and Sadie Sykes; two brothers, Robert Delgado and Albert Delgado; three sisters Grace Levy, Nellie Doren, Alice Delgado; and many nieces and nephews. HAYDEN, Steve, 38, of Hudson, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2002. He is preceded in death by his mother, Jewell D. Hayden. Survivors include his father, Robert B. Hayden of San Ramon, Calif.; three brothers, Paul Skidmore and his wife, Margaret of Tampa, Wayne Skidmore of Tampa, and Ken Hayden and his wife, Anita of Dublin, Calif. A native of Tampa, Mr. Hayden, lived in California from 1990 unti l 2001 before moving to Hudson, Fla. A funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m., Saturday, June 1, 2002. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Marsicano Chapel, 4040 Henderson Blvd., Tampa.

HINKLE, Maxine, 75, passed away May 28, 2002 in Brandon. Born in Logan, W.Va., she moved to this area in 1962. She was a Nursing Aid and a Protestant. She is survived by her son, Samuel; daughter, Christine; brother, Kenna; sisters, Della and Cora; and two grandchildren. In lieu of flowers donations can be given to LifePath Hospice. KNIGHT, Marguerite, 76, of Groveland, Fla., went home to be with the Lord early Thursday morning, May 30, 2002. A Groveland native and former longtime Bay area resident, she had served faithfully as a church secretary and Sunday School teacher for many years. Affectionately called `Shorty` by her family, she was serving at Tuscanooga Baptist Church at the time of her homegoing. Mrs. Knight is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Karen Knight of Groveland; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Lisa and Larry Floyd of Tuscola, Texas; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Joey and Kelli Knight of Gainesville, Fla.; great-granddaughter, Hannah Knight of Gainesville; two sisters, Ruby Merritt and Marie Myers, both of Groveland; sister-in-law, Jimmie Watson of Groveland; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday, May 31, 2002 from 6-8 p.m. at Kurfiss Funeral Home, 132 E. Magnolia St., Groveland. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at Tuscanooga Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Tuscanooga Cemetery.

MARKLAND, Billie J., 58, of Tampa, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Roland; sons, Timmy and Michael Markland; daughters, Donna Bradbury and Jeanna Carrico; brothers, James R. and Johnny D. Burns; sister, Ophene Jones; and four grandchildren. A native of Swansboro, N.C., she lived in the area for 23 years coming from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. OTERO, Sonya Seay, 46, of Tampa, passed away May 28, 2002. Born in Franklin, N.C., she moved here 14 years ago. She was of the Baptist faith. She is predeceased by her father, Norman Seay. Sonya is survived by her mother, Sally Seay of Franklin, N.C.; two sons, Russ Robison of Franklin, N.C., and Cody Otero of Tampa; sister, Pat Fine of Savannah Ga.; granddaughter, Sydney Robison of Franklin; niece, Amy Fine of Savannah; and fiance, Gary Mintz of Waynesville, N.C. VEST, John Douglas, CMSGT, USAF, Ret., 59, of Tampa, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2002, after a short but fierce battle with cancer. John is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Barbara; his son, Jonathan Vest and wife Tamara of Tampa; two daughters, Susan Taylor and husband Jeff of Lake City, and Lisha Gogolin and husband Robert of Tampa. He had seven grandchildren and numerous nieces an d nephews. He is also survived by two brothers, Banks B. Vest, Jr. of Tampa, and Jimmy T. Vest of Savannah, Tenn.; and one sister, Una Lou Batton of Blairsville, Georgia. John was born and raised in Tampa. He attended two years at Hillsborough High School and graduated from Clewiston High School in 1961. He received his AA Degree from Hillsborough Community College; AS degree from St. Petersburg Junior College; BA Degree from the University of South Florida, as well as numerous other certifications and awards. He met his wife, Barbara, in the U.S. Air Force in 1963. They married in 1964 in San Antonio, Texas. John had an exciting and distinguished life. He was employed with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office as a Detention Deputy at the Falkenburg Road Jail. He retired from the Air Force Reserves in 1996 as a Chief Master Sergeant in the 610th Aero Medical Evacuation Squadron. John served honorably in the Vietnam War as a Corpsman; Desert Shield/Storm as NCOIC of Aeromedical Operations; and in various humanitarian contingencies with the Air Force. He also retired from the Tampa Fire Department as a Captain of Fire Rescue. He was the Chairman and a Founder of the Tampa Firefighters Sertoma Club and had also held the position of Lt. Governor of the Central Florida District as well as a Charter Board Member of the Sertoma Youth Ranch. John was one of the driving forces that founded the Tampa General Hospital Burn Unit and served as Chairman of Development. John was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. The most important thing in his life was his family. He made friends easily and no matter where he traveled in the world, he would always find someone that he knew. He will be sorely missed but lovingly remembered by all who knew him. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002 at El Bethel Baptist Church, 6611 N. 15th St., Tampa. WISE, Maurice, 80, `says farewell to `Old Kentucky`, a place where he was born and raised.` He passed away Sunday May 26, 2002. He resided in Valrico and is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Wise and his brother, Curtis Wise. Survivors include his sons, Charles Wise, Jerry Wise, Everett Wise, R.W. Wise and Mike Wise; daughters, Patricia Liner and Katherine Veyon; brothers, Robert Wise, Jo -Harden Wise and Lee Wise; grandchildren, Chuck Wise, Terry Wise, Brian Wise, Christi Kidwell, Brandon Wise, Darlene Elkins, Christine Trice, Ricky Hines, Keith Hines, Jennifer Winchester; and 11 great-grandchildren. Maurice was a professional driver for over 60 years. He retired from Carolina Freight Company and after his retirement he worked for Gray Lines. His greatest joy was the many years he dedicated in service for the Lord to `Idlewild Baptist Church` in bus transportation to and from church for the old and young alike. The many group trips, local and out of state, as he carried them safely to and from their destination. He has now reached his last and final destination; `He is present with the Lord!` Funeral Services were held Thursday, May 30, 2002 at 12:00 Noon at the funeral home. Interment was at the Garden of Memories Cemetery.

CHIARILLI, Rebecca J., age 75, of Zephyrhills, passed away May 27, 2002. She was born in Geneva, New York and lived in Auburn, N.Y. before moving to Florida. She is survived by three sons, Ron Chiarilli of Staford, Va, Frank Chiarilli of Port Byron N.Y. and Pat Chiarilli of Valrico, Fla.; one daughter, Terri Carrier of Gibsonville N.C.; three sisters; one sister-in-law; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 2, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at Oakley Funeral Home in Zephyrhills.
