Rudolph Gary, 87 sugarmill woods

Rudolph Charles Gary, 87, Sugarmill Woods, Homosassa, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, in Inverness.

He was born Oct. 25, 1914, in New York City, to Louis and Virginia (Musanti) Garaventi. He came here from Vernon, N.J., 21 years ago.

Mr. Gary was a biochemist retiring in 1966 and was former owner of Gary Vernon Lodge in Vernon, N.J.

He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.

He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Homosassa, Sugarmill Woods Golf and Country Club, Sugarmill Woods Men’s Golf Association, West Citrus Elks Lodge No. 2693 and Crystal River Moose Lodge; and a former member of NJLBA, Sussex County LBA, Sussex County Peace Officers, Vernon Rotary Club and Vernon Township Ambulance Squad all of New Jersey.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy (Tissiere) Gary of Sugarmill Woods, Homosassa; one son, Dennis Gary of Vernon, N.J.; two daughters, Anita Lenhardt and her husband, Dr. Martin, of Hayes, Va., and Lisa Quinn and her husband, Jeffrey, of Hardyston, N.J.; 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Memorials may be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Citrus County or Elks Lodge.

Doris Hall, 70 Hernando

Doris J. Hall, 70, Hernando, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, in Inverness.

She was born April 1, 1931, in Momence, Ill., to Alvin and Daisey Ruark. She came here from Shelby, Ind., in 1981. Mrs. Hall retired from The Nu-Yu Concept Beauty Salon after 15 years of service.

She was a trustee in the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 4864, Citrus Springs, member of Korean War Veterans Association Auxiliary, Chapter 192, Citrus County, president of Rainbow Squares, Dunnellon, and member of Sunshine Contra Dancers, Wildwood.

She was Protestant.

She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Kyle Hall, 4, in 1958.

Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Millard Hall of Hernando; two sons, Randy (Alice) Hall of San Antonio, Texas, and Jeffrey (Theresa) Hall of Tampa; three daughters, Becky (Steve) Hoffman of Fair Oaks, Ind., Bonnie (Everett) Piatt of Shelby, Ind., and Zoe (Dan) Guild of Temple Terrace; two brothers, August “Ted” Ruark of Milledgeville, Ga., and Charles Ruark of Bourbonnais, Ill.; one sister, Gertrude (Dale) Clark of Momence, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Constance Poniatowski, 80 Beverly Hills

Constance A. Poniatowski, 80, Beverly Hills, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, in Inverness.

She was born in Harwinton, Conn., and came here 15 years ago from there.

She was a retired bookkeeper for a construction company.

She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Beverly Hills, and former member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Harwinton, Conn., where she served as secretary of the Women’s Guild.

She was a former member and secretary of Harwinton Westside Fire Company Auxiliary, past president of Harwinton Westside Community Inc., past president of Torrington American Legion Auxiliary and was a Girl Scout Leader for 40 years in Torrington, Conn., and Harwinton, Conn.

She was a member of the SHARE Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Poniatowski, on Dec. 8, 1992.

Surviving are three sons, Richard Poniatowski of Engle, Edward Poniatowski of Winchester, Conn., and Gregory Poniatowski of St. Petersburg; two daughters, Cecelia Smith of Lake City and Elizabeth Marshall of Goshen, Conn.; one brother, Joseph Tognalli of Torrington, Conn.; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Theodore Proctor, 79 Floral City

Theodore D. Proctor, 79, Floral City, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, in Floral City.

He was born July 28, 1922, in Henry, Va., to John and Salemah Proctor. He came here from Fort Stewart, Ga., 40 years ago.

Mr. Proctor retired as a 1st Sergeant in the U.S. Army. He served during World War II and the Korean War.

He was a member of VFW Post 4252, Hernando.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Florence E. Proctor, on Sept. 28, 1979; and Hazel E. Proctor on Feb. 13, 1999.

He is survived by his brother, James W. Proctor of Pinetops, N.C., and sister, Pennie Proctor of Elm City, N.C.

Nancy Putney, 51 Inverness

Nancy Joyce Putney, 51, Inverness, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness.

She was born Oct. 30, 1950, in New Rochelle, N.Y., and came to Citrus County in 1994 from Pelham, N.Y.

Mrs. Putney was a school bus driver for the Westchester County School System.

She was Episcopalian.

Surviving are her husband, Charles J. Putney Jr. of Inverness; son, Charles Putney III of Inverness; daughters, Dawn Harper of Inverness; and four grandchildren.

Stephanie Schell, 85 Floral City

Stephanie Schell, 85, Floral City, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, as a result of an automobile accident.

She was born Nov. 22, 1916, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She came here more than 15 years ago from Hollywood.

Mrs. Schell was a retired florist and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick P. Schell, on Nov. 9, 1991.

She is survived by her nephew, Allen Coogen of Succasunna, N.J.; her companion, John Casey of Inverness; and friend, Barbara Sorrentino of Inverness.

Edward Schultz Hernando

Edward L. Schultz, Citrus Hills, Hernando, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness.

He was born in Quincy, Mass., to Eddy and Marion Schultz. He was a retired self-employed sign painter and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was an avid golfer, recently being awarded certification for hitting a hole in one Oct. 10, 2001, on the 16th green at Meadows/Citrus Hills.

He was a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed shooting at the range.

He was a longtime member of the South Shore Archery Club in Massachusetts. He attended Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Lee Schultz of Citrus Hills; children, Donna L. Thompson and her husband, Kenneth, of Trenton and the Rev. Edward L. Schultz Jr. and his wife, Deborah, of Whitehall, Pa.; grandchildren, Sandra Walters and her husband, Joey, of Powder Springs, Ga., Sheryl Fann and her husband, Adore, of Orlando, Anthony E. Thompson and his wife, Staci, of Gainesville, Christopher Schultz of Boston, Mass., Jennifer B. Schultz of Randolph, Mass., and Emma Li Kissinger-Schultz of Whitehall, Pa.; and six great-grandchildren.

Michael TenHoeve Sr., 83 Citrus Springs

Michael J. TenHoeve Sr., 83, Citrus Springs, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, in Citrus Springs.

He was born in Clifton, N.J., and came here from Paterson, N.J., 20 years ago.

Mr. TenHoeve was former operating engineer for a gas station service company and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

He was a member and former usher of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Citrus Springs, Knights of Columbus Council No. 8510 in association with St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and St. John the Baptist Catholic Churches; Edward W. Penno VFW Post 4864, Citrus Springs; Disabled American Veterans Chapter 70, Inverness; Citrus Springs Horseshoe Club; Irish American Club of West Citrus County and was a volunteer fireman in Citrus Springs for 15 years.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Margaret “Peg” TenHoeve of Citrus Springs; three sons, Michael TenHoeve Jr. of Citrus Springs, James TenHoeve of Hawthorne, N.J., and Richard TenHoeve of Paterson, N.J.; one daughter, Margaret A. Faragalli of Marlton, N.J.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.

Luvenia Coleman, 69 Holder

Luvenia Weaver Coleman, 69, Holder, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Seven Rivers Community Hospital in Crystal River.

She was born in Inverness and moved to Holder 38 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church of Holder.

She is survived by two sons, Malcolm Engram of Dudley, Mass., and Willie V. Coleman of Citrus Springs; two daughters, Vivian D. Engram of Inverness and Eunice E. Sanders of Lecanto; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

James DeMaria, 78 Spring Hill

James J. “Mr. D” DeMaria, 78, Spring Hill, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, under the care of his family and Hernando/ Pasco Hospice.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to John and Antoinette DeMaria.

Mr. DeMaria was a general contractor, developer and Realtor. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was an avid collector of scale automobiles.

He was Catholic and a member of St. Joan of Arc Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years,Teresa, who died Oct. 4, 1994.

He is survived by his children, Annmarie DePerte and her husband, Robert, of Odessa, James W. DeMaria and his wife, Deborah, of Hudson, and Diane Puleo and her husband, Steven, of Royal Palm Beach; his grandchildren, Tara and Nicole DePerte, James, Michael and John DeMaria and Thomas and Michael Puleo; his sister, Mary Russo of Vineland, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may honor Mr. DeMaria with a donation to Hernando/Pasco Hospice.
