Hellen Cords, 83 Overland Park, Kan.

Hellen Mary Cords, 83, Overland Park, Kan., formerly of Lecanto, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, in Overland Park.

She was born Feb. 3, 1919, in St. Francois, Mo., to Earl and Dorothy Covington.

Mrs. Cords was a retired teller at Illinois National Bank, Elmhurst, Ill.

She was Methodist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred R. Cords, who died April 20, 1986; and a son, Richard A. Cords.

Surviving are two daughters, Terrie A. Reiman of Overland Park, Kan., and Pamela J. Bieneman of Wellington; two brothers, Earl Covington of Queen Valley, Ariz., and Lynn Covington of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Dotti Smith of Springfield, Ill.; five grandchildren, Thomas M. and Brett Bieneman, Eric Cords, Robert Reiman and Connie Keeling; and three great-grandchildren, Aubrye, Lawson and Grace Keeling.

John Hunt, 82 Inverness

John E. Hunt, 82, Inverness, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, in Inverness.

He was born Nov. 15, 1919, in Carnwath, Pa., to John and Sarah Hunt. He came here from St. Petersburg in 1988.

Mr. Hunt was a retired carpenter. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor from the 25th Division Infantry, U.S. Army.

His hobbies included golfing and woodworking.

He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Inverness.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Jane Riordan Hunt of Inverness; two sons, Terry (Rebecca) Hunt of Inverness and Mark (Dana) Hunt of Longview, Texas; two daughters, Barbara (Gordon) Price of San Diego, Calif., and Sheila Hunt Commers of Sun City Center; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Grace Hambel, 86 Inverness

Grace A. Hambel, 86, Inverness, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, in Woodland Terrace of Citrus County in Hernando.

She was born Feb. 21, 1915, in Kearney, N.J., to Raymond and Daisy (Williams) Rush. She moved to Florida in 1977 from Downers Grove, Ill.

Mrs. Hambel was a retired schoolteacher, having taught elementary school for more than 33 years.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Inverness and Retired Educators Association.

Survivors include her husband, Lester C. Hambel; three sons, Paul L. of Aurora, Wis., David C. and Daniel R., both of Fort Lauderdale; one daughter, Rosemarie Mys of Inverness; one sister, Gertrude Hambel of Inverness; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Bernard ‘Barny’ Lee, 72 Floral City

Bernard Henry “Barny” Lee, 72, Floral City and Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness.

He was born Jan. 21, 1930, in Welland, Ontario, Canada, to Harry and Molly (Downs) Lee. He has been a winter visitor to Floral City since 1981.

Mr. Lee was retired from the Ford Motor Company in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, as an inspector with more than 25 years of service.

He was Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Betty J. Lee; three sons, Frank, Bernie and Ed, all of Brantford, Ontario, Canada; five daughters, Dorothy Brown of Wainfleet, Darlene Cossaboom of Ingersoll, Laurie Fawcett, Kristine Lee both of Brantford and Teresa Misale of Hamilton, all in Ontario, Canada; one brother, Jim Lee of Colbourne, Ontario, Canada; several grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Muriel Jean Lee, who died April 4, 1996.

Lewis Parlin, 91 Citrus Springs

Lewis E. Parlin, 91, Citrus Springs, formerly of Milford, Maine, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, in Lecanto.

He was born Oct. 17, 1910, in New Sharon, Maine, to Henry W. and Blanchie (Fickett) Parlin. He moved from Milford, Maine, to Citrus Springs in 1982.

Mr. Parlin was a teacher in the Ashland School District for several years. He then worked for the United States Soil Conservation Service, where he became the assistant state conservationist for the state of Maine.

He was an avid outdoorsman, Maine guide and author.

Survivors include his wife, Mary (Burr) Parlin of Citrus Springs; two sons, Robert Parlin of Naples and Arthur Parlin of North Grafton, Mass.; one daughter, Carol Jean Keenan of North Grafton, Mass.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will hold memorial services at a later date.

Roberts Funeral Home of Dunnellon is in charge of Arrangements.

Ray Rife, 80 Inverness

Ray Lawrence Rife, 80, Inverness, died at his home Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002.

He was born Oct. 23, 1921, in Greenbottom, W.Va., to Alvin “Cap” and Virginia (Curry) Rife. He moved to Florida in 1972 from Huntington, W.Va.

Mr. Rife was employed for 27 years at Neighborgall Construction Company in Huntington, where he supervised numerous projects at Marshall University and several hospitals. After retiring to Florida, he developed and managed the Fort Cooper Mobile Home Community.

He was a charter member of the Lakeside Golf and Country Club and the Inverness Elks Lodge No. 2522.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Nash Rife; three sons, Jack Rife and his wife, Mary Sue, of Hernando, John Rife and his wife, Kim F., of Homosassa, and Jeff Rife and his wife, Kim M. of Inverness; one daughter, Diana Sue Rife of Huntington, W.Va.; one sister, Margaret Ray of Greenbottom, W.Va.; eight grandchildren, Jackqueline Pinney, Cellynn Rife, Heather, Jeffrey and Jacob Rife, Johnnie Ray Rife, Lacey and Billy Floyd; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred and Benjamin, and a sister, Fay Reed.

James Speller, 86 Beverly Hills

James Joseph Speller, 86, Beverly Hills, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Woodland Terrace of Citrus County.

He was born March 25, 1915, in Williamston, N.C., to James Speller and Carrie Andrews.

Mr. Speller’s was retired from the lawn care service business.

He was a veteran and Christian.

Survivors include two daughters, Rosalind Milton and her husband, Kenneth, of Beverly Hills and Dorothy Hudson of Cincinnati, Ohio; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Margaret Carpenter, 81 Dunnellon

Margaret D. Carpenter, 81, Dunnellon, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, in Dunnellon.

She was born in Chicago, Ill., and came here in 1995 from Clinton, Ark.

She was a homemaker.

She was Catholic.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas Carpenter and John Carpenter, both of Dunnellon; three daughters, Gail L. Burnett, Susan J. Carpenter and Joyce C. Bergeron, all of Dunnellon; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas R. Carpenter, and daughter, Lynn Marie. Roberts Funeral Home of Dunnellon.

Natt Divoll Jr., 88 Rockingham, Vt.

Natt L. Divoll Jr., 88, Rockingham, Vt., and Inverness, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, in Inverness.

He was born Sept. 22, 1913, in Bellows Falls, Vt., to Natt L. and Louie Divoll.

He came here in 1978 from Bellows Falls, Vt.

Mr. Divoll practiced law in Bellows Falls. He was a Vermont Superior Court Judge, 1955-1966; and member of Bellows Falls Selection School & Library Board.

He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He served as a PT Boat commander in the English Channel. He was wounded in action.

He enjoyed the family dairy farm in Bellows Falls.

He was a member of United Church of Bellows Falls.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Knox Divoll, who died March 5, 2001.

Surviving are three sons, Natt L. Divoll III of Bellows Falls, Vt., Knox D. Divoll of Manchester, Vt., and Scott J. Divoll of Bellows Falls, Vt.; one daughter, Marcia K. Divoll of Nahant, Mass.; and three grandchildren.

Margaret Garley, 70 Homosassa

Margaret M. Garley, 70, Homosassa, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at Life Care Center in Lecanto.

She was born March 28, 1931, in Bally Longford, Iowa, to Mary and James O’Carroll. She came here eight years ago from Las Vegas, Nev.

Mrs. Garley was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Scholastica Catholic Church in Lecanto.

Surviving are her son, Patrick Scotti of Hicksville, N.Y.; two daughters, Kathleen Zimmermann of Homosassa and Ann Sheridan of England; two brothers, John O’Carroll of Ireland and Patrick O’Carroll of England; and one grandson, Patrick Scotti of Hicksville, N.Y.
