Samuel Avery, 79 Lake Panasoffkee

Samuel Avery, 79, Lake Panasoffkee, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002.

He was born May 6, 1922, in Waco, Texas, to Jessie and Nettie Lee Avery.

He moved to Lake Panasoffkee in 1984 from Zephyrhills.

Mr. Avery was a retired dairyman.

Survivors include his sons, Samuel H. Avery of Lakeland, Thomas D. Avery of Inverness and Joseph D. Avery of Wesley Chapel; daughters, Barbara A. Thompson of Lakeland and Jessie M. Holmes of Auburndale; brother, Woodrow W. Avery of Lakeland; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Haskell Bee, 82 Inverness

Haskell L. Bee, 82, Inverness, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, in Inverness.

Born June 19, 1919, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, to John and Delpha Bee, Mr. Bee came here in 1978 from Rapid City, S.D., where he was manager at Sanderson Mobile Homes for 32 years. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

He was a member of the Elks and American Legion, both of Rapid City, S.D., and Eden Gardens Seventh-day Adventist Church, Inverness.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia W. Bee of Inverness; sons, Haskell L. (Julie) Bee Jr. of Denver, Colo., and Robert (Vickie) Bee of St. Petersburg; daughter, Patty (Vern) Hyland of Grants Pass, Ore.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Lawrence Cardinali, 80 Inverness

Lawrence Cardinali, 80, Inverness, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala.

Mr. Cardinali was born Sept. 24, 1921, in Carlstadt, N.J., to John and Emma Cardinali.

He moved to Inverness in 1985 from Manahawkin, N.J.

He was a retired supervisor for Becton & Dickinson Medical Supplies in E. Rutherford, N.J.

Survivors include his wife, Greta, of Inverness; sons, Raymond Cardinali of Lecanto, John Cardinale of Carlstadt, N.J., and Paul Cardinali of Manahawkin, N.J.; seven grandchildren, Christina Wert of Oviedo, Jeffery Cardinali of Altamonte Springs, Victoria Cardinali of Lecanto, John and David Cardinale of Carlstadt, N.J., Matthew and Michael Cardinali of Manahawkin, N.J.; and three great-grandchildren, Ryan and Jason Wert of Oviedo and Andrew Cardinali of Altamonte Springs.

John Casey, 90 Floral City

John J. Casey, 90, Floral City, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, in Crystal River.

He was born May 8, 1911, in Queens, N.Y., to James and Olga Casey.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Adele Casey, Dec. 18, 1992.

He is survived by his son, Dennis Casey of Apopka; four brothers; one sister; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Rita Clare, 81 Inverness

Rita M. Clare, 81, Inverness, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at Avante at Inverness nursing home.

She was born Sept. 18, 1920, in Munich, Germany. She moved to Inverness from New York.

Mrs. Clare was a retired bookkeeper.

Survivors include her great niece, Michelle McDoal of New York and a dear friend, Gloria Johnson of Inverness.

William Donovan, 81 Homosassa

William J. Donovan, 81, Homosassa, died Monday evening, Feb. 18, 2002, at Crystal River Health & Rehabilitation Center in Crystal River.

Born April 7, 1920, in Merthyr-Tydfil, Wales, United Kingdom, to William Sr. and Ada (Aldridge) Donovan, he came here 22 years ago from Flint, Mich., where he retired as president for Laborers International Union.

He was Catholic.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Donovan, in September 1994.

Surviving are his son, Danny Donovan and his wife, Kathy, of Homosassa; two grandsons, Patrick and Gary Donovan; one step-grandson, Rob Rumble; two granddaughters, Jackie Stratton and Sabrina Fowler; and three great-grandchildren.

Louis Eisele, 81 formerly of Beverly Hills

Louis H. Eisele, 81, formerly of Berea, Ohio, and Beverly Hills, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at Mount Carmel East Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a life member of the Order of the Purple Heart, a life member of the VFW and a 50-year member of the Plumber’s Union Local No. 55.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Laura; daughter, Barbara Casterline; son, L. Gary (Beverly) Eisele; grandchildren, Geoffrey, Jill, Julie, Jason, Erin and Justin; and great-granddaughter, Jenna.

Lou was preceded in death by parents, Harry and Harriet Eisele, and brother Robert.

John ‘Leo’ Hogan, 90 Beverly Hills

John “Leo” Francis Hogan, 90, Beverly Hills, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, in Lecanto.

Born in Leister, Mass., he came here in September 1983 from West Roxbury, Mass.

Mr. Hogan was a retired loftsman at a ship building yard in Charlestown, Mass.

He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.

He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE).

He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Beverly Hills, a third degree Knight and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 6168.

Mr. Hogan was preceded in death by his sisters, Catherine Hogan in June 1999 and Margaret Spack on Jan. 1, 2002.

Surviving are one brother-in-law, Theodore Spack of Beverly Hills; and one sister-in-law, Ann Hogan of Townsend, Mass.

Lorena ‘Rene’ Hoyer, 82 Homosassa

Lorena M. “Rene” Hoyer, 82, Homosassa, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at her home.

She was born Nov. 26, 1919, in Boston, Mass., to Otto and Mildred (Sprude) Kocer.

She came here in 1979 from Toms River, N.J.

She was a retired legal secretary and at one time worked for the offices of Robert Kennedy.

She was a past member and past president of the Crystal River Woman’s Club; past member of Crystal River Moose Lodge and past member and president of the former Organ Grinders Club of Crystal River.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert G. Hoyer, in 1997.

She is survived by three cousins, Egil Kocer of Latvia, Olga Lopez of Rosedale, N.Y., and Elizabeth Gulbis of Canada; stepson, George Stephen Hoyer of Montvale, N.J.; stepdaughter, Sandra Schmidt of Crystal River; and close friends, Deana Buchanan of Lecanto and Sandy McDonald of Beverly Hills.

Raymond Racette, 79 Dunnellon

Raymond Edward Racette, 79, Dunnellon, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at his home.

Born in Adams, Mass., he came here in August 2001 from Daytona.

Mr. Racette was a retired corrections officer for the State of Massachusetts Department of Corrections.

He was Roman Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Mary S. Racette of Dunnellon; two daughters, Joan Meczywor of Dunnellon and Linda Whitehorn of Wisconsin; one sister, Roma Priori of Daytona; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Ina Roberts, 97 Inverness

Ina F. Roberts, 97, Inverness, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, in Citrus Health & Rehabilitation Center of Inverness.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, she was born Sept. 5, 1904, to Albert and Winnie Fligle.

She moved to Florida in 1967 from Geneva, Ohio, with her late husband, Dewitt Roberts, who preceded her in death June 21, 1992.

She is survived by one grandson, Gary Roberts of Phoenix, Ariz.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Gene Roberts Sr., and a grandson, Gene Roberts Jr.
