Betty Penney, 77 Homosassa

Betty Jean Penney, 77, Homosassa, died Friday, June 7, 2002, at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness.

She is survived by three daughters, Nola Calkins, Homosassa, Roberta Davis, Blackshear, Ga., and Romona Catlin, Missouri; one son, Roy Catlin Jr., Alma, Mich.; and several grandchildren.

George H. Pulsford, 97 Beverly Hills

George H. Pulsford, 97, Beverly Hills, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, in Lecanto.

He was born March 26, 1905, in Effingham, Ill..

He started his accounting career in Chicago in 1927. He was the treasurer of Eckhart Milling Co. and office manager of Williamson Candy Co., “Oh Henry” of Chicago. He then became a professor of accounting at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he taught for 10 years.

He moved to the area from Whitewater, Wis., 20 years ago. He was Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Beverly Hills.

Mr. Pulsford was a member of the Illinois Manufacturing Association, the Rotary and Lions Club in Wisconsin, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Abbot Francis Sadlier Council No. 6168, Beverly Hills, a member of the Elks Club in Homosassa and Inverness, and a member of Pine Ridge Men’s Golf League.

He is survived by his wife, “Myrt” I. Pulsford, Beverly Hills; his daughter, Pat Kryger, Crystal Lake, Ill.; and his grandchildren, Kenneth Sauers, Naperville, Ill., Kimberly Allen, Brussels, Belgium, and Kyle Sauers, Green Oaks, Ill.; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 1 St. Jude Place Building, Memphis, TN 38148.

Stephanie Winarski, 93 Dunnellon

Stephanie M. Winarski, 93, Dunnellon, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Munroe Regional Medical Center, Ocala. She moved to Miami from North Carolina in 1936, and then relocated to the area eight years ago.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Dunnellon, and was also a member of Rainbow Springs Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J Winarski Sr., in 1981; and her son, Edward J. Winarski Jr.

She is survived by her daughters, Irene Williams, Dunnellon and Jane Marie Underkofler, Bristow, Va.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Joseph R Zumpol, 90 Inverness

Joseph R. Zumpol, 90, Inverness, died Sunday, June 23, 2002, at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness.

He was born Jan. 8, 1912, in Lindenhurst, N.Y., to Joseph and Mary Zumpol.

Mr. Zumpol was a retired machinist for Grumman Aircraft. He moved to Inverness in 1998 from Largo.

He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Inverness.

He was a life member of the Lindenhurst Volunteer Fire Department, serving 68 years.

Mr. Zumpol was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Hirsch-Zumpol, in 1990.

He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn Zumpol, Inverness; three sons, Joe Zumpol, Inverness, Jim Zumpol, Inverness and Ray Zumpol, Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters, Theresa Losasso, Inverness and Mamie Shortmeyer, Lindenhurst, N.Y.; one brother, John Zumpol, Lindenhurst, N.Y.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

George Barlow, 84 Dunnellon

George H. Barlow, 84, Dunnellon, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Nature Coast Hospital, Williston.

He was born in Macoun, Saskatchewan, Canada.

He was a yardmaster for Boston and Maine Railroad and was also retired from public works with the city of Ocala.

He moved to the area 35 years ago from Concord, N.H.

Mr. Barlow was a member of Rainbow Lakes United Methodist Church.

He was a lifelong member of VFW Post 8201, Rainbow Lakes Estates.

He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and is a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia.

He is survived by his daughter, Georgina Jordan, Dunnellon; and two sons, Harry Barlow, Dunnellon, and Gordon Williams, Dunnellon; two brothers, William Barlow, Maine, and Evans Barlow, Arizona; two sisters, Irene Sprague, Bangor, Maine, and Gladys Charters, St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Richard Wallace Calef, 65, Crystal River, died Friday, June 21, 2002, at the Community Hospital, New Port Richey.

He was born Dec. 13, 1936, in Lynn, Mass., to Ralph and Edith Calef.

He came to the area three years ago from Lynn, Mass.

He was a retired owner/operator of S. Harris & Sons Trucking in Middleton, Mass.

He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.

He attended St. Benedict’s Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Carole Calef, Crystal River; two sons, Dennis R. Calef, Farmsersville, Ohio, and David H. Calef, Clermont; one daughter, Dorene K. Calef, Crystal River; and five grandchildren.

Louise Cobler, 84 Ocala

Louise H. Cobler, 84, Ocala, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, in Ocala.

She was born Dec. 11, 1917, in Clarion, Pa.

She was a longtime resident of St. Petersburg and recently moved to Ocala.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Cobler was a former member of St. Peter’s Cathedral, St. Petersburg, and was a member of Holy Faith Episcopal Church, Dunnellon.

She was a longtime member of St. Petersburg Yacht Club and Exchange Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Cobler.

She is survived by two daughters, Diane MacMillan, Arley, Ala., and Janine Maloof, Franklin, N.C.; two sisters, Dorothy Hughes, St. Petersburg, and Margaret Hughes, Ocala; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Margaret “Dolly” Goodwin, 75, Ocala, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, in Ocala.

She was born in Laconia, N.H.

She was a hairdresser.

She came to the area in 1991 from Timber Pines.

She was Catholic and a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, William Goodwin, Ocala; two daughters, Valerie Jean Carter, Bedford, Texas, and Susan Margaret Goodwin, Dunnellon; her sister, Connie Gale, Gulfport, Miss.; her brother George Minnon, Laconia, N.H., and one grandson.

Hortense Holland, 86, Inverness, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at her home.

She was born April 17, 1916, to Laban and Helen Harmon in Independence Kan. She moved to the area in 1978 from Silver Spring, Md.

She was employed by Montgomery County in the Maryland School System.

Ms. Holland was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Inverness, and was a longtime member of the Inverness Golf and Country Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Z. Holland, in 2002.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Edwin Holland, Inverness; and three daughters, Helen Shanklin, Fort Worth, Tex., H. Joan Holland, Inverness, and Mary Noyes, Clarksburg, Maryland; eight grandchildren, James, Julie, Joe, John, Michael, Steven, Kathleen and Karl; and 10 great-grandchildren, Katie, Brian, Sean, Elizabeth, Brooke, Ellis, Aidan, Luke, D.J., and Ethan.

She was a homemaker.

She was Protestant.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Love, in 1983; her grandson, David; three brothers; and two sisters.

She is survived by one daughter, Phyllis Hall, Inverness; three grandchildren, James Wehrenberg, Marlis Wehrenberg and Michelle Tice; four great-grandchildren, Jason, Brandon, Megan, and Alexandra; and one great great-grandchild, Kyla.
