Jack Seleck, 81 Crystal River

Jack R. Seleck, 81, Crystal River, died Thursday, May 23, 2002 in Crystal River.

He was born Nov. 1, 1920 in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Paul and Ida Vogel Seleck. He came to Crystal River in 1990 from Indian Harbor Beach.

He was a financial officer with AT&T Technologies.

Mr. Seleck served with the Navy in World War II and Korea.

He retired from the Naval Reserve after 26 years as lieutenant commander.

He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was Presbyterian.

Surviving are his wife, Vera Seleck of Crystal River; one son, Craig Seleck of DeLand; one daughter, Lyn Stark of Minnetonka, Minn.

Ellen Sharpe, 99 Inverness

Ellen H. Sharpe, 99, Inverness, died Thursday, May 23, 2002, at Mariner Health Care of Inverness.

She was born in Lake County, Ill., and moved to the area in 2001 from Barrington, Ill.

Mrs. Sharpe was a retired nurse.

She was a member of Barrington United Methodist Church, Barrington, Ill., the Nurses Association in Illinois and a former member of the AARP in Illinois.

She is survived by two sons, David Sharpe of Arbor Vitae, Wis., and H. Parker Sharpe of Manitowish Water, Wis.; two brothers, John Hauri of Algonquin, Ill., and Oscar Hauri of Sorona, Wis.; one sister, Betty Zischke of Wauconda, Ill.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Carol Ann Torri, 60 Ocala

Carol Ann Torri, 60, Ocala, died Friday, May 24, 2002 at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness.

She was born Feb. 26, 1942 in New York to the late John and Kitty Lloyd, and came to Florida in 1993 from Rutland, Vt. Mrs. Torri was a waitress. She was of the Jehovah’s Witness faith.

Surviving are her husband, Robert S. Torri of Ocala; one son, Richard Torri of Ocala; one daughter, Victoria Jonah of Ocala; one grandchild, Jayce Torri.

George Weiand Jr., 56 Floral City

George “Paul” Weiand Jr., 56, Floral City, died Friday, May 24, 2002 at home.

He was born Nov. 9, 1945 in Fort Monmouth, N.J. to George P. and Janette Weiand Sr. He came to Florida in 1991 from Holbrook, Mass.

He was a firefighter for the Holbrook Fire Department and, after moving to Citrus County, was employed at the Citrus County Speedway.

Surviving are one son, Paul C. Weiand of Gainesville; two daughters, Kim Jones of Crystal River and Dee Weiand of Floral City; one sister, Susan Weiand of California; seven grandchildren; his former wife and her husband, Susan and Sonny Riccobene of Floral City.

Michael Reilly, 71 Beverly Hills

Michael F. Reilly, 71, Beverly Hills, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, in Crystal River.

He was a native of New Jersey, and moved to Inverness before coming to Beverly Hills seven years ago.

He was a retired grocery store clerk for the A&P Food Store Co., and Kash n’ Karry.

He was a Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Beverly Hills. He was a navigator for the Knights of Columbus, Francis Cardinal Spellman Assembly, where he was a member of the Color Corps.

He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church Catholic Men’s Club and the Irish-American Club of Lecanto. He recently served as a Eucharistic Minister for Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and was captain of the bowling team at Sportsman’s Bowl in Inverness.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Reilly and two sisters, Elizabeth Urbanovich and Eleanor Lynch.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline J. Reilly of Beverly Hills; five daughters, Josephine Welsh and her husband George of Lecanto, Kathleen Winch and her husband David of Beverly Hills, Mary Ann Quinn and her husband Stephen of Lecanto, Debra Darnell and her husband Roger of Dunnellon, Michele Hudak and her husband Ken of Beverly Hills; one brother, James Reilly of West Creek, N.J.; three sisters, Anna May Walsh and Margaret Ferrie, both of Tom’s River, N.J., and Theresa Stone of Rutherford, N.J.; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Henry Palys, 78 Beverly Hills

Henry A. Palys, 78, Beverly Hills, died Saturday, May 25, 2002 at his home.

He came to Citrus County from Palatine, Ill., 18 years ago.

He was a mailman for the U.S. Postal Service. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany for five years.

He was a member of the Citrus Area Stamp Club.

He was Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Hildegard Palys of Beverly Hills; his son, Dennis Palys of Illinois; one daughter, Ellen Gentile of Illinois; three grandchildren, Jessica Palys, Kassie Palys and Vince Gentile, all of Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Henry Fugate, 72 Homosassa

Henry Eugene Fugate, 72, Homosassa, died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, in Homosassa.

Born April 21, 1930, in Hazard, Ky., to Alex and Catherine (McGillis) Fugate, he came here from Grass Lake, Mich., in 1995.

Mr. Fugate was a general foreman for General Motors. He was a Korean War U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Fugate, in 1985. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Katherine Shock Fugate of Homosassa; three sons, Robert Fugate of St. Claire Shores, Mich., Michael Fugate of Sugarmill Woods and Mark Fugate of Pleasant Lake, Mich.; his mother, Catherine Fugate of Lecanto; two brothers, Thurman Fugate and Glenn Fugate both of Sugarmill Woods; and two grandsons.

Norman George, 70 Homosassa

Norman Charles George, 70, Homosassa, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at Seven Rivers Community Hospital in Crystal River.

He was born Dec. 20, 1931, to William and Raphael (Poisal) George in Arlington, Va. He came here 12 years ago from Crofton, Md.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a young man, and then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he served for six years. He retired after 39 years of service with the National Security Administration.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Barbara, of Homosassa; one son, Norman Jr., and two daughters, Angel and Dawn, all of Maryland; four stepchildren, Bill, Dixie, Debbie and Cindy, all of Maryland; two brothers and three sisters, all of Maryland; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Alfred Kachinsky, 79 Portland, Conn.

Alfred Kachinsky, 79, Portland, Conn., formerly of Beverly Hills, died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at his home after a long illness.

He was born in Filbert, Pa., son of Alex and Mary (Kwader) Kachinsky.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in Panamanian and the European Theaters.

Prior to his retirement, he worked for Pratt & Whitney for 32 years. He later moved to Beverly Hills, where he was a life member of the VFW Post 10087.

Survivors include his wife, Hope J. (Higgins) Kachinsky of Portland, Conn.; a son, Stephen K. Kachinsky of Los Angeles, Calif.; a daughter, Faith E. Fraulino of Portland, Conn.; a sister, Martha LaPorta of Middletown, Conn.; five grandchildren, Juliet, Christine, Michael, David and Timothy; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Alfred T. Kachinsky; two brothers, Joseph and John Kachinsky; and a sister, Helen Powell.

Edward Moody, 75 Inverness

Edward Moody, 75, Inverness, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness.

Born Sept. 2, 1926, to Elmer and May (Navan) Moody, he came here in 1988 from Lady Lake.

Mr. Moody was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a retired nuclear power plant engineering manager.

He was a member of Pi Tau Sigma Fraternity from Syracuse, N.Y., the Twisted Oaks Golf Club, Point O’ Woods Country Club, past president of the Barbershop Quartet in California and a lifetime member of the Simi Valley, Calif., VFW Post 10049.

He was Protestant.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Wilma D. Moody; three sons, Larry Mortenson of Washington, Terry Mortenson and Roy Paul Moody both of Oklahoma; five daughters, Elizabeth Thurman of Oklahoma, Rebecca Kleinbauer of Pennsylvania, Amy Montoya of Oklahoma, Darla Barrett of Arizona and Lisa Epstein of California; two sisters, Madeline Zipkas and Ethel Marcell both Florida; 23 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Harold Nicklas, 92 Citrus Springs

Harold H. Nicklas, 92, Citrus Springs, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at Life Care Center in Lecanto.

He was born May 25, 1910, in Ingallston, Mich., to Hugo and Lena (Martin) Nicklas. He moved here from South Bend, Ind., 29 years ago.

Mr. Nicklas retired from the American Electric Power Company as a laboratory technician.

He was a member of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, Citrus Springs, a 32nd Degree Mason of St. Joseph Lodge No. 45 F&AM, Scottish Rite and the Citrus Springs Horseshoe Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Amanda Arntz, Frances Rath, Hilda Paine and Evelyn Johnson; and his loving wife of 63 years, Rose M. Kozenek Nicklas, on July 3, 2000.

He is survived by one son, Harold H. Nicklas Jr. of Citrus Springs; one daughter, Barbara Ann Fredericks of Mobile, Ala.; four grandchildren, David Fredericks, Susan Weiss, Michael Fredericks and Laura Fredericks, all of South Bend, Ind.; and four great-grandchildren.
