Michael ‘Mike’ Estep, 49 Homosassa

Michael (Mike) Estep, 49, Homosassa, formerly of St. Petersburg, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at home.

He was born July 6, 1953, in Charleston, W.Va., to Calvert H. and Cornelia (Carper) Estep. He moved to this area three years ago from St. Petersburg.

He was a plant manager for Crest Cabinets in St. Petersburg. He was a pilot with Red Baron Aviation and a U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Captain. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved woodworking, fishing and boating. He was a member of VFW Post 6827 in St. Petersburg and a life member of VFW Post 5897 of Georgia.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon (Hamill) Estep of Homosassa; son, Kelly Estep of Lavonia, Ga.; daughter, Shelly McCurley of Toccoa, Ga.; mother, Connie Miller of Homosassa; sister and husband, Tracey Estep and Norman Hamill of Homosassa; sister, Dana Gilbert Hangarten of St. Petersburg; grandchildren, Brandon McCurley, Zachariah Dicks, Malachi Dicks and Austin Schippers; stepson, Shane Schippers; stepdaughter, Denise Dicks of Homosassa; nieces, Amanda Wagner of Homosassa, Kimberly Gilbert of St. Petersburg and Candace Gilbert of St. Petersburg; and a special friend, Maxine Perry of Homosassa.

Duncan Gallacher, 73 Lecanto

Duncan MacFarland Gallacher, 73, Lecanto, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at home under the care of his wife and Hospice of Citrus County.

A native of Greenock, Scotland, he came here eight years ago from Neptune, N.J.

He retired in 1994 with 23 years of service at Honeywell International, Eatontown, N.J., as an electrical and mechanical maintenance supervisor.

He served in the British Merchant Navy and Army.

He was a member of St. Scholastica Catholic Church, Lecanto, and the Knights of Columbus, Abbot Francis Sadlier Council 6168, Beverly Hills. He was a member of Beverly Hills Fishing Club, Beverly Hills Recreation Association, Crystal Glen Club, and he loved fishing, golfing and bocci. He was a past member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 2013, Crystal River.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Mary A. Gallagher of Lecanto; one brother, James Gallacher of Greenock, Scotland; sisters, Betty Shaffrey and her husband, Russell, of Kent, England, and Anne (James) Prew of Kent, England; and three nieces, Juliet, Heather and Louise.

Sally Gelfand, 90 Beverly Hills

Sally Gelfand, 90, Beverly Hills, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, in Crystal River.

A native of Chicago, Ill., she came here two years ago from Waukegan, Ill.

She was a retired secretary for Kraft Foods, Chicago, Ill.

She enjoyed reading, watching television and spent her life caring for her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Louise M. Henkel and husband, Daniel, of Beverly Hills; three grandchildren, Robin Goldberg of Carey, Ill., Leslie Moss of Libertyville, Ill., and Michael Goldberg of British Virgin Islands; five great-grandchildren, Lauren, Jennifer, Rachael and Erica Moss and Jeri Simone Goldberg; two brothers, Louis and Jerome Gelfand of Chicago, Ill.; and one sister, Ann Birman of Chicago, Ill.

Merton ‘Mert’ Inman, 82 Rathdrum, Idaho

Merton (Mert) Inman, 82, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, in Rathdrum, Idaho.

He was born Aug. 2, 1920, in Ludlowville, N.Y., to Walter and Anna May Inman and lived there until he entered the Army Air Corps in 1942. He married Velma McFall in 1943. They lived around Ithaca, N.Y., until they moved to Florida in 1982. They were active in the Hernando United Methodist Church. They moved to Rathdrum, Idaho, in 1998.

He is survived by Velma, his wife of 59 years; daughters, Kathryn Carlisle of Rathdrum, Idaho, and Carol Sanchez of San Diego, Calif.; sons, Ted Inman of Grangeville, Idaho, and Todd Inman of Grants Pass, Ore.; sisters, Hazel Hart of Ithaca, N.Y., and Freda McFall of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; brother, Robert Inman of Ithaca, N.Y.; grandchildren, Rhonda, Trent and Daryl Carlisle, Katelynn, Hayden, Sydney and Wyatt Inman and Corey and Brandon Sanchez; and five great-grandchildren.

Ethel ‘Faye’ Josey, 75 Floral City

Ethel “Faye” Josey, 75, Floral City, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness.

A native of Lubbock, Texas, she was born Aug. 4, 1927, to General Lee Alley and Annie Mae Jeffcoat Alley. She came to Citrus County in 1961 from Sumter County.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Floral City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawson “Joe” Josey in 1979, her son, Donald Ray Josey in 1996, and her brother, Clyde Alley.

Survivors include one son, Ronald Lee Josey and his wife, Jean, of Bushnell; two daughters, Carolyn Walton and her husband, Bill, of Henry, Tenn., and Sue Hintze of Ocala; two brothers, Roy Alley of Lubbock, Texas, and Jimmy Alley of Oklahoma City, Okla.; her daughter-in-law, Peggy Josey of Crystal River; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Loretta Knapp, 91 Crystal River

Loretta M. Knapp, 91, Crystal River, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, in Lecanto.

Born Feb. 4, 1911, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to William and Margaret (Maguire) Knapp, she came to this area from Bradenton in 1989.

She served 45 years with the Sisters of Charity as a schoolteacher. She held a master’s degree in English education from Waterbury Institute.

She was a member of St. Scholastica Catholic Church.

Survivors include her brother, Charles Knapp of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister, Margaret Sandell of Southington, Conn.; friend, Alice Anderson of Beverly Hills; and several nieces and nephews.

Rosemarie O’Brien, 77 Dunnellon

Rosemarie O’Brien, 77, Dunnellon, former resident of Inverness, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala.

A native of Staten Island, N.Y., she was born March 13, 1925. She came to Citrus County in 1978 from Miami.

She was an elementary school teacher. She was Catholic and was a former member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Inverness and presently attended the Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo O’Brien, on March 10, 1994.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Congleton of Jacksonville; two brothers, Anthony Messina of Fort Lauderdale and Charles Messina of Boca Raton; and grandson, Matt Washington.

Esther Westerhouse, 79 Homosassa

Esther Irene Westerhouse, 79, Homosassa, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at Brentwood Health Care Center, Lecanto.

Born March 18, 1923 in Chicago, Ill., to Otto Sube and Christine Peterson, she came here from Auburndale eight years ago.

She was a retired nurse from Florida Hospital, Orlando. She served during World War II as a nurse in the Army WACs. She was Presbyterian.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Westerhouse, and her parents.

Survivors include one son, Jonathan (Pat) Westerhouse of Parrish; two daughters, Candace (Dennis) Zamber of Homosassa and Christine Doyle of Auburndale; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

George Eichberger, 86 Inverness

George L. Eichberger, 86, Inverness, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, in Citrus Memorial Hospital of Inverness.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., he was born Aug. 16, 1916, to Otto and Matilda Eichberger. He came to Florida in 1978 from Queens, N.Y., with his wife, Helen, who preceded him in death June 5, 1991.

Mr. Eichberger retired as a clerk from the U.S. Postal Service with 21 years of service. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish and an honorary member of the Italian Social Club of Citrus County.

Survivors include his niece, Peggy Dugan of Blairstown, N.Y.; his sister, Hazel Brown of New Vernon, N.J.; his special friend, Ellin DiGiovanni of Inverness; and many nieces and nephews.

George Gencorelli, 101 Beverly Hills

George V. Gencorelli, 101, Beverly Hills, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2002, at Crystal River Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center.

A native of New York, N.Y., he came here in 1970 from Floral Park, Long Island, N.Y.

Mr. Gencorelli retired after 45 years of service as a toolmaker at Neptune Water Meter Company in Long Island, N.Y.

He attended Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Beverly Hills. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Madeline Eastlund Gencorelli of Beverly Hills; daughter, Dolores Board of New York; stepdaughter, Madelyn Hickey of Beverly Hills; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Willford Seegers, 75 Inverness

Willford Richard “Dick” Seegers, 75, Inverness, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, in Inverness.

Born Oct. 1, 1927, in Charlotte, N.C., to Fuller and Lucille Seegers, he came here in 1979 from Powhatan, Va.

Mr. Seegers was an office equipment repairman. He was a Korean War veteran of the United States Army.

He was Methodist.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Lillie Nixon Seegers of Inverness; son, Sammy and Louise Nixon of Liberty, N.C.; daughter, Sherie and Donnie McGee of Powhatan, Va.; brother, Jerry Seegers of Fairmount, Ga.; sister, Pat Chance of Charlotte, N.C.; and three grandchildren.

Jeanette Stamper, 81 DuQuoin, Ill.

Jeanette M. Stamper, 81, DuQuoin, Ill., formerly of Crystal River, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at Fair Acres Nursing Home in DuQuoin, Ill.

She was born March 29, 1921, in Davie, W.Va., to Hobart and Oma (Lowe) Mann. She came to this area 29 years ago from Welch, W.Va., before moving to DuQuoin, Ill., several years ago.

She was a retired dental assistant in McDowell County, W.Va. She was a member of the Crystal River Church of God.

Survivors include four sons, Roger Stamper of Welch, W.Va.,

Frank Stamper of Roanoke, Va., Jimmy Joe Stamper of Dunnellon and Sammy Stamper of Crystal River; one daughter, Rita Cook of DuQuoin, Ill.; a brother, Robert Mann of Inverness; a sister, Geneva McGann of Sophia W.Va.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
