Adelaide Stevens, 86 Inverness

Adelaide Mildred Stevens, 86, Inverness, died at Citrus Memorial Hospital Monday, Nov. 25, 2002.

A native of Irvington, N.J., she was born June 11, 1916, to Ernest and Sadie Fischer. She came to Florida in 1969 from Moultrie, Ga., with her husband, Willard Stevens, who preceded her in death March 20, 1998.

She was a former secretary for several churches. She currently was attending the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Ernest W. Stevens of Inverness; one daughter, Lynne Mirabella of Fayetteville, Ga.; one brother, Edward Fischer of Homosassa; one sister, Muriel Melchior of Jim Thorpe, Pa.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Elry Tuller, 88 Crystal River

Elry D. Tuller, 88, Crystal River, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, in Crystal River.

He was born Oct. 16, 1914, in Temperance, Mich., to Tracy and Ella (Mason) Tuller and came here from Redford, Mich. Mr. Tuller was a designer/builder for Burroughs Adding Machine Co.

He was Protestant.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Lowe Tuller of Crystal River; son, Dale Tuller of Chicago, Ill.; stepson, Gary Vandeputte of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and four grandchildren.

Elaine Weema, 75 Floral City

Elaine Rita Weema, 75, Floral City, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness.

Born April 3, 1927, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Bert and Wanda Dluzen, she came here in 1989 from Parma, Ohio.

Mrs. Weema retired from the Parma Board of Education as an executive secretary with 35 years of service.

She was Lutheran.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Fred Weema; one son, Eric Weema of Lakewood, Ohio; one daughter, Linda Hale of Portola, Calif.; one brother, Bert Dluzen of Newark, Ohio; one sister, Wanda Pearson of Parma Heights, Ohio; and four grandchildren.

George Whisenant, 87 Inverness

George Whisenant, 87, Inverness, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, in Inverness.

Born Sept. 11, 1915, in Quincy, to Jacob and Avilena (Enriqez) Whisenant, he came here in 1980 from Wichita, Kan. Mr. Whisenant was a retired building contractor. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Inverness.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Berdion Whisenant of Inverness; and a sister, Anna Viegas.

John Young, 87 Lecanto

John W. Young, 87, Lecanto, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, in Lecanto.

Born April 30, 1915, in Ionia, Mich., to John Ray and Mabel Ann (Rightenberg) Young, he came here in 1980 from Lake Park.

Mr. Young was a retired tool and die maker for a machine works company. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Beverly Hills.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Frances Gallagher Young of Lecanto; one son, Bob and Joyce Young of Lecanto; two daughters, Barb Young of Key Training Center, Crystal River, and Rosemary and Paul McKee of Inglis; a brother, Donald Young of Ovid, Mich.; a sister, Phyllis Brown of Muir, Mich.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Cody Dalziel, 19 Inverness

Cody Vincent Dalziel, 19, Inverness, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, in Orlando.

He was a construction laborer.

He was a lifelong resident of Citrus County who was born Jan. 30, 1983, to Jerry and Jill (Fort) Dalziel.

He was Baptist.

He is survived by his father, Jerry Dalziel of Columbia, S.C.; mother, Jill Liebers and her husband, Allan, of Inverness; a sister, Maggie Harmon of Inverness; a stepsister, Sarah Liebers of Inverness; grandfather, Elwood M. Fort of Dunnellon; and an aunt and uncle.

Philip Mains, 65 Lecanto

Philip J. Mains, 65, Lecanto, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, in Inverness.

He was a retired self-employed swimming pool contractor.

A native of River Rouge, Mich., he moved to the area 16 years ago from Bonita Springs.

He was Christian.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Sergeant class E-4 at the Suez Canal.

He is survived by four sons, Philip Mains of Houston, Texas, Jay Mains of Lecanto, Jerome Mains of Inverness and Joseph Mains of Inverness; a stepson, James Swearingen of Inverness; a daughter, Roxann Bollmann of Davie; four sisters, Noreen Medlin of Hernando, Rita Cook of Hernando, Karen Fink of Illinois and Dolores Elmore of Davie; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

Albert ‘Al’ Brownley, 71 Dunnellon

Albert E. “Al” Brownley, 71, Spruce Creek Preserve, Dunnellon, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at West Marion Community Hospital, Ocala.

A native of Woodhaven, N.Y., he was born Aug. 2, 1931, to Frank H. and Vivian (Gehbauer) Brownley. He came to this area in 1997 from Queens, N.Y.

Mr. Brownley retired in 1991 after 40 years with J.F.K. International Airport, where he worked as a supervisor of airfreight.

He was a Korean War veteran.

He was a member and deacon at First Congregational Church of Ocala; a 32nd degree Mason and a devoted member for more than 50 years; past master of Tyrian Masonic Lodge No. 618 F&AM, Brooklyn, N.Y.; and received his 50-year pin from Reliance Grand Lodge F&AM, Queens, N.Y., on Nov. 11, 2002; member of Friendship Lodge No. 53, F&AM, Fellowship, and Scottish Rite of Ocala.

Mr. Brownley loved playing bridge and restoring cars, most recently his 1957 Thunderbird, and considered himself an amateur astronomer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn L., on March 24, 2001.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Albert and Ida Brownley of Coran, N.Y.; two daughters, Cynthia Brownley and Ginny Musacchio, of Pine Ridge, Beverly Hills; a brother, George Brownley of Simi Valley, Calif.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and mother-in-law, Ada Towers of New York.

Richard Dow, 73 Inverness

Richard M. Dow, 73, Inverness, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, in Gainesville.

Born March 22, 1929, in Ashland, N.H., he came to this area in 1989 from Center Harbor, N.H.

Mr. Dow was a retired union carpenter and a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was a member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners No. 921 of Portsmouth, N.H., and a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include three sisters, Patricia A. Dow of Philadelphia, Pa., Harriet Hussey of Alton, N.H., and Leslie Dow of Lizella, Ga.; and five brothers, Albert E. Dow Jr. of Plymouth, N.H., Jon Dow of Ctr. Sandwich, N.H., Alan Dow of Lake City, Thomas Dow of Macon, Ga., and James Dow of Tampa.

Jeffrey Hayden, 52 Homosassa

Jeffrey P. Hayden, 52, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at home in Homosassa.

Mr. Hayden was born July 31, 1950, in Niles, Mich.

He served in the U.S. Army from June 1970 to December 1971 as a bar and club manager in Pleiku Officers’ Club and Toy Hoa Officers’ Club in Vietnam.

Mr. Hayden has been affiliated with the golf industry since 1958, when he started work at a family managed golf facility in Cassopolis Mich., and ended his career as territory manager of West Central Florida with Golf Ventures Inc. He was a member of Golf Course Superintendents’ Association of America since 1974; was a member of Florida Turfgrass Association since 1974 and a director from 1986-1992; was a member of North Florida Golf Course Superintendents’ Association from 1974-1991, vice president from 1980-1982 and president in 1982, a director from 1984-1987; and was a founding member of Seven Rivers Golf Course Superintendents Association from 1991 to 2002, where he was a director from 1991-98; vice president 1991-93 and president from 1993-95. He is survived by his wife, Sandra R. Hayden, from Gainesville/Homosassa; one daughter, Stephanie D. Underwood; one son, Benjamin P. Hayden; and two granddaughters of Gainesville; his mother, Wilma Hayden of Elkhart, Ind.; and three sisters, Jennifer Keskinen of Dallas, Texas, Janice Hayden of Elkhart, Ind., and JoAnne LeClair of Jacksonville.

Lester ‘Bud’ Hogue, 86 Homosassa

Lester Monroe “Bud” Hogue, 86, Homosassa, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, in Homosassa.

Born Jan. 25, 1916, in Bonita Springs to Bertram and Alice (Lisk) Hogue, he came to this area in 1995 from Port St. Joe and previously resided in Bonita Springs and Naples.

Mr. Hogue was a guide at a fishing camp, a builder of boats and an expert handyman.

He was Baptist.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Eva Mae Garrett Hogue of Homosassa; a niece, Virginia Garrett; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
