Gerda Keil, 80 Hernando

Gerda F. Keil, 80, Hernando, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, in Lecanto.

She was born Feb. 25, 1922, in Germany and came here this year from Ann Arbor, Mich.

She was a homemaker and she was Lutheran.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marten, in July 1990, and her son, Ruediger E. Keil, in September 1980. Survivors include her stepson, Werner and Barbara Keil of Palm Harbor; stepdaughter, Elke and Bill Valloreo of Clearwater; brother, Erich Thamm of Germany; sister, Martha Michalek of Germany; daughter-in-law, Barbara Keil and Rivard Reding of Hernando; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Margaret Tungate, 79 Inverness

Margaret Emmy Tungate, 79, Inverness, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at Mariner Health of Inverness.

A native of Bayonne, N.J., she was born March 21, 1923, to Edward and Emma Sorochen. She came to Florida in 1982 from Heights Township, N.J.

Mrs. Tungate was formerly employed with A&P.

She was a member of the Highlands Civic Association and the Highlands Crime Watch Detail.

She was Methodist.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, William Tun-gate of Inverness; son, Wayne M. of Inverness; daughter, Susan (John) Krzywicki of Green River, Wyo.; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Howard, in 1967.

Aida Watson, 96 Crystal River

Aida Louise Watson, 96, Crystal River, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at Crystal River Health & Rehab Center in Crystal River.

She was born Oct. 25, 1906, in Liverpool, Ohio, the only child of George and Erma (Horger) Parker. Mrs. Watson moved to Miami in 1943, where she and her husband, Dale Watson, owned and operated “Watson’s Restaurant” for more than 30 years. The restaurant was famous for homemade whipped cream pies, which she started baking at her home. Their slogan was “Coming to Watson’s and ignoring the pies is like coming to Florida and closing your eyes.”

“Nan” will be remembered by her family for her everlasting support and devotion to her family.

Mrs. Watson is survived by one daughter, Gayle Frasier of Ocala; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in her name to The Humani-tarians of Citrus County, P.O. Box 924, Inverness, FL 34451.

David Ballantine, 79 Beverly Hills

David J. Ballantine, 79, Beverly Hills, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, in Beverly Hills.

Born May 15, 1923, in Hackensack, N.J., to Robert A. and Mary E. (Gallagher) Ballantine, he came to this area in 1994 from Montville, N.J.

Mr. Ballantine retired after 31 years with the United States Post Service as a postman and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran who served with the 354th Tank Destroyer Battalion and participated in the Invasion of Normandy.

He served for 49 years as a volunteer fireman for Ridgefield Park, N.J., Fire Department; was a member of Ridgefield Park, N.J. Elks Lodge 1506; life member of VFW Post 4252 in Hernando and a member of its Honor Guard.

He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church of Beverly Hills.

He was preceded in death by five siblings.

Survivors include his wife, Joann Engel Ballantine of Beverly Hills; son, David Ballantine; daughters, Gerda Schulze and Monika Reichert; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Ian Bollin, 20 Crystal River

Ian Bollin, 20, Crystal River, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at Shands Hospital in Gainesville.

Born June 8, 1982, in Toledo, Ohio, to Joseph Michael and Pamela Jean (Burdick) Bollin, he came here from there.

He worked at Doak Campbell Stadium of Florida State University in Tallahassee.

He was a 2000 graduate of Crystal River High School, played on the school football team and was on the team that played in the state playoffs. He was also a member of the wrestling team.

He was a member of Crystal River United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse Bollin, and paternal grandparents, James E. and Jeanne Bollin.

Survivors include his father, Joseph M. Bollin of Crystal River; his mother, Pamela J. Bollin of Crystal River; his brother, Nicholas Bollin of Crystal River; and maternal grandparents, Robert and Mary Frances Key of Inverness.

Barbara Burnett, 70 Homosassa

Barbara D. Burnett, 70, Homosassa, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at Mariner Health of Inverness.

A native of New Jersey, she was born April 13, 1932, to Elwood and Madelon Tilcher. She came to Citrus County from Zephyrhills.

There are no known survivors.

Maurice Carpenter, 87 Inverness

Maurice Edwin Carpenter, 87, Inverness, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, in Inverness.

He was born Feb. 15, 1915, in Ontario, Canada, to William and June (Clark) Carpenter and came to this area in 1979 from Detroit, Mich.

Mr. Carpenter was a retired display director in retail sales.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ingrid Swanson Carpenter, on Aug. 30, 2002, and a son, Thomas Carpenter.

Survivors include his son, Christopher Jon Carpenter of Floral City; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Marion DeLucia, 93 Collierville,Tenn.

Marion A. DeLucia, 93, Collierville, Tenn., formerly of Homosassa, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at Collierville Nursing Home, Collierville, Tenn.

She was Catholic.

She is survived by two daughters, Arline Ledbetter of Collierville, Tenn., and Elaine Valentine of Cross City. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Hospital.

Interment at Fountains Memorial Park, Homosassa, under the care of Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa Springs.

J. Ralph Froedge, 82 Homosassa

J. Ralph Froedge, 82, Homosassa, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of Citrus County.

He was born Oct. 22, 1920, in Edmonton, Ky., to Matilda Ann and John Alex Froedge. He moved here from Fort Myers in 1985.

Mr. Froedge was a retired plant manager for Beatrice Foods, and he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University.

He was Protestant.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Barbara J. Froedge of Homosassa; one sister, Mary Goldena Davis of Crawfordsville, Ind.; two brothers, Donald Gene Froedge of Crawfordsville, Ind., and O. Lee Froedge of Birmingham, Ala.; and 20 nieces and nephews.

James Given, 73 Inverness

James K. Given, 73, Inverness, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness.

He was born Jan. 16, 1929, in Lackawanna, N.Y., to James and Ann Given and moved to Inverness in 1989 from Hamburg, N.Y.

Mr. Given served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from Bethlehem Steel in Lackawanna, N.Y.

He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Inverness.

Survivors include his wife, Theresa M. Given of Inverness; son, William Pinakiewicz of Williamstown, Mass.; three daughters, Lynn Caito of Buffalo, N.Y., Patricia Nicotra of Eden, N.Y., and Kathleen Given of Point Pleasant, N.J.; one sister, Margaret McCarthy of Hamburg, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren.

Salvador Gonzalez, 33 Floral City

Salvador Gonzalez, 33, Floral City, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness.

Born Dec. 21, 1968, in Mexico to Leon and Basilia (Pereida) Gonzalez, he came here five years ago from Lake Wales.

Mr. Gonzalez was a grove picker with the Ferris Farms Inc.

He was a member of the Christian Recovery Fellowship Church in Floral City.

Survivors include his wife, Maria, of Floral City; his son, Salvador of Floral City; his parents, Leon and Basilia (Pereida) Gonzalez of Lake Wales; and 11 brothers and sisters.
