Paul Farris, 84 Inverness

Paul Farris, 84, Inverness, formerly of Louisville, Ky., died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Woodland Terrace Nursing Home in Hernando.

Mr. Farris was a native of Edmonson County, Ky., and a retired heavy equipment operator.

He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local No. 181 and Lees Lane Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, the former Delores Zachary; son, Michael Farris; sister, Irene Meyers; two grandsons; and one great-grandson.

Funeral services and burial will be in Louisville, Ky., under the care of Owen Funeral Home.

William Lawson, 90 Brooksville

William M. Lawson, 90, Brooksville, formerly of Inverness, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at his home under the care of Hospice and his family.

A native of Philadelphia, Pa., he was born July 8, 1912, to Thomas and Annie Lawson. He came to Inverness in 1983 from Broomall, Pa., prior to moving to Brooksville.

Mr. Lawson was a retired factory manager for Honeywell Electronics and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Brooksville. He was a life member of Cassia Mt. Horeb Masonic Lodge and the Point O’ Woods Country Club in Inverness.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Lawson, on Sept. 9, 1999.

Survivors include three sons, William R. Lawson of Jeffersonville, Pa., Donald Lawson of Brooksville and Lawrence Lawson of Phoenixville, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Richard Mathis, 52 Floral City

Richard Edward Mathis, 52, Floral City, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, in Floral City.

Born Jan. 15, 1951, in Batesburg, S.C., he spent most of his life as a shrimp boat captain in South Florida. He moved to Floral City eight years ago, where he remodeled homes.

He spent his time hunting, fishing, and being a great father. He was honest, loving, and had a great zest for life.

He is survived by his mother, Nettie Mathis; two sons, Richard John Mathis and Joshua Richard Groom-Mathis; two stepchildren, Jennifer Green and husband, Matthew, and Christopher Groom; and four sisters, Ruth Pinder, Linda Yandow, Kay Stracke and Nancy Ramirez.

Raymond Wallwork, 74 Dunnellon

Raymond Wallwork, 74, Rainbow Springs, Dunnellon, died Wednes-day, Feb. 5, 2003 in Ocala.

A native of Cambridge, Mass., he moved to Rainbow Springs in 1989 from South Hampton, Mass.

He was a retired engineer with New England Telephone Co. and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and Rainbow Springs Men’s Golf League.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Wallwork of Rainbow Springs, Dunnellon; three sons, Craig Wallwork of Washington, D.C., Commander Donald Guy, U.S. Navy, Weston, and Major Michael Guy, USAF, Montgomery, Ala.; two daughters, Linda Williams of Dunnellon and Lisa Bzenich of Oceanside, Calif.; two brothers, Frederick and Charles Wallwork both of Birmingham, Ala.; two sisters, Betty Coggins and Mary Jane Kennedy both of Birmingham, Ala.; and five grandchildren.

John Wyckoff Jr., 68 Beverly Hills

John Wesley Wyckoff Jr., 68, Beverly Hills, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003 in Beverly Hills.

A native of Englewood, N.J., he moved to Florida from Panther Valley, N.J. He moved to Beverly Hills in 1992 after living a short time in Wildwood.

Mr. Wyckoff was a retired tax assessor for Warren County, N.J., with 23 years of service and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

He was a painter of abstract art and enjoyed listening to jazz and going to concerts. He was Protestant.

He is survived by companion, Martha G. Simpson of Beverly Hills; and son, Fr. Eric John Wyckoff of Mexico.

Thomas Berry, 80 Homosassa

Thomas Henry Berry, 80, of Homosassa, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at Cypress Cove Care Center in Crystal River.

Mr. Berry was a retired manager for Lockheed Martin Corp. of Marietta, Ga.

He was born Sept. 30, 1922, in Etowah, Tenn., to William Henry and Margaret S. (Dunn) Berry. He came here in 1979 from Marietta, Ga.

He was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army Air Force.

He was a member of the Springs Masonic Lodge 378 of Homosassa Springs.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Homosassa. Survivors include his wife Sarah L. (Keel) Berry of Homosassa; a stepson, Larry Brooks of Hernando; a step-daughter, Debra Faul of Crystal River; and one sister, Margaret Graves of Riverside, Calif.

Douglas Cook, 70 Inverness

Mr. Douglas Lee Cook, 70, of Inverness, died Friday, April 4, 2003.

He was born Sept. 3, 1932, in Winston-Salem, N.C., to Burnie Eldridge and Stacie Virginia Willis Cook.

Mr. Cook came here from Winston-Salem in 1999.

He was a warehouseman in the tobacco industry.

He was a Korean War veteran.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Kernersville, N.C., honorary Lion’s Club member and a member of the American Trapshooter’s Association.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rural Hall, N.C.

Mr. Cook was preceded in death by a brother, Rex Glenn; a sister, Dorothy Ann Staples; and a stepson, Stanley Vincent Roberts.

Survivors include his wife, Eula Ray Sparks Cook of Citrus Hills; a stepson, Norford Eugene Cromeens of Lewisville, Texas; two daughters, Catherine Hooks of Lewisville, N.C. and Karen Brown of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; one stepdaughter, Margarita Roberts of New York City, N.Y.; and one sister, Barbara Ziglar of Rural Hall, N.C.; and six grandchildren.

Franklin Hewitt, 85 Floral City

Franklin “Bud” David Hewitt, 85, of Floral City, died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness.

Mr. Hewitt was bornin Chicago, Ill., on December 28, 1917. He came here in 1979 from St. Petersburg where he lived for 19 years.

He was a retired commercial artist and a writer in the graphics and printing industry.

He was a graduate of the American Academy of Art in Chicago. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a chief quartermaster, having served two invasions in the Mediterranean and five invasions in the Pacific Theater.

Mr. Hewitt was an avid sailboat racer.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mabel “Margaret” (Vanderbilt) Hewitt; one son, David Hewitt of Seminole; one daughter, Susan Porter of Simpsonville, S.C.; one sister, Mary Hicks of St. Petersburg; and three grandsons.

Raymond Keisel, Jr., 77 Floral City

Raymond Cleaver Keisel, Jr., 77, of Floral City, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness.

Born in Ocean Gate, N.J., on July 8, 1925, to Raymond C. Keisel, Sr. and Mabel Edith (Moyer) Keisel, he came here in 1984 from Long Island, N.Y.

Mr. Keisel retired from the U.S. Navy with 20 years of service. He served in World War II and the Korea War.

Mr. Keisel was employed with the U.S. Postal Service as a postal clerk for 19 years.

He was a member fo the Floral City VFW Post 7122.

He was preceded in death by his brother, James Keisel.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Joan C. (Gronsund) Keisel; two sons, Raymond C. Keisel, III of Floral City and Karl E. Keisel of Yaphank, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

William Morgan, 88 Inglis

William M. Morgan, 88, of Inglis died Friday, April 4, 2003, in Crystal River.

Mr. Morgan was a retired quality control worker for Eastman Kodak Manufacture Company.

He was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and came here in 1977 from Zephyrhills.

He was Protestant.

Survivors include his wife, Vera Morgan of Inglis; two sons, Richard Morgan of Lima, N.Y., and William Morgan of Pittsford, N.Y.; four daughters, Marcia Sparks of Hemlock, N.Y., Marolyn Ellis of Thonotosassa, Carol Tette of Bloomfield, N.Y., and Cheryl Rice of Avon, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Iris Schena, 80 Citrus Hills

Iris Mary Schena, 80, of Citrus Hills, died Friday, April 4, 2003 in Inverness.

Mrs. Schena was born in England to Joe Entwistle and Clara Ferdinand Entwistle.

She came here from East Boston, Mass., in 1991.

She was a registered nurse.

She was a member of the LeRoy Rooks VFW Auxillary Post 4252 of Hernando, the Citrus Hills Golf and Country Club and the Women’s Club of Citrus Hills.

She enjoyed knitting, playing cards, scrabble and canasta. She was Catholic.

Mrs. Schena was preceded in death by her grandson, Thomas Bourque.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Gerald Patrick Schena of Citrus Hills; one son, Michael G. (Sharon) Schena of Northfield, Mass.; Two daughters, Virginia Alden of Scituate, Mass. and Judith Bourque of Sanford, Maine; two sisters, Jean Roebuck and Joyce Price, both of England; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
