Joan Sutherland, 88 Inverness

Joan E. Sutherland, 88, Inverness, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness.

Born Aug. 6, 1914, in Germany, she came here in 1983 from Anna Maria.

Mrs. Sutherland was a retired owner and operator of a variety store.

She was Protestant.

Survivors include her husband of 22 years, Neil Sutherland; one stepson, Lee Sutherland of Hernando; one stepdaughter, Lila M. Church of Bushnell; one brother, Werner Sonntag of Lima, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Sylvia DuFloth, 79 Lecanto

Sylvia L. DuFloth, 79, Lecanto, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, in Crystal River.

A native of Chicago, Ill., she came here four years ago from Des Plaines, Ill.

She retired in 1986 from DeLuxe Check Printers in Chicago as an inspector with 20 years of service.

She spent her life loving and caring for her family.

She attended St. Scholastica Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William, on June 14, 1984.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Paup of Lecanto; three sons, Jeffery DuFloth of Arlington Heights, Ill., Donald DuFloth of Schaumburg, Ill., and Dale DuFloth of Waco, Ga.; and a brother, Robert Wall of Carlsbad, Calif.

Memorial contributions in her memory may be given to the First Presbyterian Church of Crystal River, 1501 S.E. U.S. 19, Crystal River, 34429.

William Harrison, 93 Hernando

William Calvin Harrison, 93, Hernando, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, in Hernando.

Born Nov. 5, 1909, in Glendale to William Jeremiah and Annie (Ellis) Harrison, he came here in 1972 from Apopka.

Mr. Harrison was a retired heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed fishing.

He was Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his son, Harold Harrison, on July 5, 1985.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Donna Whittle Harrison of Hernando; three sons, Curtis Harrison of Clermont, Leonard Harrison of Tavares and Fred Harrison of Center Hill; three stepsons, John Edwards of Inverness, Raymond Edwards of Warrenton, Mo., and David Edwards of Hernando; three daughters, Dorothy Teel of Winter Park, Jean Martin of Fort Myers and Freda Deaton of West End, N.C.; 31 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Mary Lohr, 77 Canon City, Colo.

Mary Esther Lohr, 77, Canon City, Colo., died Saturday, April 5, 2003, in Colorado Springs, Colo.

A native of Irwin, Pa., she was born at home to Robert Seybert and Mildred Schombert on Oct. 21, 1925. She moved to Colorado in 2001 from Rainbow Lakes Estates in Dunnellon, where she had lived for 12 years upon retiring with her husband, Harold G. Lohr.

Mrs. Lohr was a homemaker and a former nurse’s aide. Among her life’s loves were photography, music, sewing, reading and crossword puzzles.

She was Methodist.

She was preceded in death by a twin sister, Martha Seybert, in 1926 and her husband, Harold G. Lohr, on Aug. 18, 1996.

Survivors include one daughter, Loretta Carter of Larkspur, Colo.; two sons, Kirk Lohr of Flatrock, Mich., and Dale Lohr of Lincoln Park, Mich.; one brother, Danny Seybert of Carrsville, Va.; three sisters, Ruth Winkler of Newport News, Va., Dorcas Schaffer and Naomi Seybert both of Pittsburgh, Pa.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Charles Oddy Sr., 93 Lecanto

Charles F. Oddy Sr., 93, Lecanto, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, in Lecanto.

A native of Whitpain, Pa., he came here in 1974 from Alexandria, Va.

Mr. Oddy was a retired executive director for an optical company and a World War II Naval officer.

He loved dancing and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by one son, Charles Oddy Jr. of Columbia, N.J.; and one daughter, Barbara Williams of Fuguay-Varinam, N.C.

Agnes Oelrich, 89 Inverness

Agnes H. Oelrich, 89, Inverness, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, in Inverness.

Born Dec. 10, 1913, in Ossian, Iowa, to James A. and Edna B. (Lee) Harvey, she came here in 1998 from Winter Haven.

She was a homemaker and a member of United Meth-odist Church of Haines City, attended First Presbyterian Church of Inverness and was a member of the nursing home ministry of Nazarene Church of Hernando.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Nelson Oelrich, on Jan. 6, 1996, and one grandchild.

Survivors include two sons, Stephen M. Oelrich of Gainesville and Ivan C. Oelrich of Arlington, Va.; four daughters, Patricia O. Spencer of Gainesville, Audrey O. Mattox of Inverness, Rosemary O. Bottcher of Monticello and Karen O. Carssow of Atlanta, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Robert Oliver, 77 Homosassa

Robert G. Oliver, 77, Homosassa and Hot Springs Village, Ark., died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at home with his family by his side.

A native of Lake Forest, Ill., he was born July 6, 1925, to Gordon and Lela (Salsaa) Oliver. He came to this area from Lake Forest, Ill., five years ago.

Mr. Oliver was a graduate of Lake Forest High School and served his country faithfully as a Marine during World War II.

Mr. Oliver worked as a carpenter contractor during his lifetime.

He was past commander and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post No. 264 of Lake Forest, Ill.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest, Ill.

Mr. Oliver was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Lela, and his wife, Elizabeth P. Oliver.

Survivors include two sons, David Oliver and Paul Oliver, both of Homosassa; a sister, Dorothy Humphreys of Asheville, N.C.; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; six nephews; and one niece.

A graveside service will be held during the summer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Citrus County, 3350 W. Audubon Park Path, Lecanto, FL 34461.

Walter Pheil Jr., 72 Cairo, Ga.

Walter Clark Pheil Jr., 72, Cairo, Ga., died Thursday, April 10, 2003, in Cairo.

He was born Oct. 25, 1930, in Pleasant Grove, Fla., to Walter C. Sr. and Gladys B. (Vinzant) Pheil.

Mr. Pheil was a self-employed carpenter and a military veteran.

He was a member of Kingdom Hall.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Phillips. Survivors include his wife, Myrtle E. Pheil of Cairo, Ga.; four daughters, Faith Joy Hicks of Earlton, Janet Arlene Baker of Brunswick, Ga., Susan Collette Lake of Gaston, S.C., and Constance Bethel Lloyd of Jacksonville; three sons, Walter C. Pheil III of Keystone Heights, Steve Marshal Pheil of Crystal River and Daniel Marcus Pheil of Melrose; a brother, Alva Pheil of Dublin, Ga.; a sister, Joan Cross of Darien, Ga.; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Gilbert ‘Larry’ VanSickle, 54 Inverness

Col. Gilbert “Larry” VanSickle, U.S. Army (Ret.), 54, died suddenly Wednesday, April 9, 2003, in Inverness.

A native of Columbus, Ohio, he was born Sept. 1, 1948, to Gilbert and Deloris VanSickle. He moved to Florida in 1999 from Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas.

He retired from the U.S. Army with 27 years of service. He was a graduate of Ohio State University with a degree in civil engineering. While on duty, he served as Platoon Leader and Commander in the 78th Engineer Company (heavy construction); Commander of the 51st Engineer Detachment; and Topographic Officer while serving in Korea. His awards were many, including the Legion of Merit, Silver DeFleury, Bronze Star and Meritorious Service Medal.

He was a member of the Retired Officers Association, an avid bike rider and sailing enthusiast.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen VanSickle; two sons, Shawn VanSickle of Atlanta, Ga., and Todd VanSickle and his wife, Jennifer, of Atlanta, Ga.; one daughter, Capt. Apryl Cauthen and her husband, Grant, Travis Air Force Base; two sisters, Kathy Howell of Marietta, Ga., and Janie Hanf of Columbus, Ohio; his father, Gilbert VanSickle of Gulf Breeze; and one grandson.

Eileen Adams, 88 Crystal River

Eileen O’Ferrell Adams, M.D., Crystal River, died Monday, April 14, 2003, in Crystal River.

Born April 13, 1915, in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, to Francis and Catherine (Lutz) O’Ferrell, she came to this area in 1980 from Cincinnati, Ohio.

She was a doctor (family practice) also an acupuncturist. She assisted in the development of the West End Medical Clinic, Cincinnati.

She was a member of American Medical Association, American Association of Family Practitioners, American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA), Cincinnati Academy of Medicine, past treasurer of AMWA and past president of Pilot Club of Cincinnati. She was Christian.

Dr. Adams was selected “Woman of the Year” for Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1971.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Adams, on Oct. 12, 1986.

Survivors include two sons, Lowell Adams of Westfield, Ind., and Dana Adams of Fortville, Ind.; two daughters, Rebecca Mason of Indonesia and Phyllis Konitzer of Riverview; two brothers, Donald Sayers of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Russell Sayers of Mesa, Ariz.; one sister, Eleanor Moore of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Memorial services will take place at a later date. Hooper Funeral Home, Inverness.
