Ernest I. Hunter

MORRISTON - Ernest I. "Skeeter" Hunter died Saturday in Trenton. He was 82.

He was born in Tilliman and moved to Morriston from Ocala in 1951. He was a retired dragline operator for the state of Florida.

He was a member of the Church of Christ at Morriston.

Survivors include his son, Clinton Hunter; his daughter, Ann Ross of Williston; a brother, Ira Hunter of Immokalee; and two grandsons.

Marcelle W. Kunert

Marcelle W. Kunert of Gainesville died Friday at Shands at the University of Florida. She was 87.

She was born in Jacksonville and was a long-time resident of Gainesville. She operated the Arlington Hotel.

She was a Baptist.

Survivors include her cousins, Al Cone of Ocala, Lou Guinn of Palatka, Celia Cone of Melrose, Susan Anderson of Leesburg, Fred Cone Jr. of St. Augustine, Tommy Cone of Gainesville, Paul B. Witherspoon of High Springs and Mary Haley of Atlanta.

Max A. Lemberger

ST. AUGUSTINE - Max A. Lemberger died in his home Sept. 7. He was 78.

Mr. Lemberger was born in Milwaukee, Wis., and graduated from the University of Wisconsin College of Pharmacy in 1944. He served in the China-India-Burma theater in World War II, owned and operated two pharmacies with his father in Milwaukee, and was assistant dean at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy until 1987.

Mr. Lemberger served as president of the Florida Pharmacy Association and was active in the American Pharmacy Association and the American College of Apothecaries.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Helen; daughters Marjorie Hannan, Theresa Sexton and Cecilia Burchette; sons Max E., John and Robert Lemberger; and eight grandchildren.

Melisse I. Martin

TRENTON - Melisse Isabell Martin died Saturday at Ayers Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was 80.

She was a lifelong resident of Bell.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Jennings Lake Seventh Day Adventist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, R.L. Martin.

Survivors include daughters Jean Marlowe of Houston, Jeanette Cannon of Trenton, and Arenette Cannon of Plant City; brothers I.P. Wooley Sr. of St. Petersburg, Mann Wooley of Lakeland, and Asson Wooley of Orlando; a sister, Kathyrn Hinson of Orlando; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Beverly J. O'Brien

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS - Beverly J. O'Brien died Friday at Shands Jacksonville Hospice Center following a short illness. She was 75.

Mrs. O'Brien was born in Lansing, Mich., and moved to Keystone Heights from Bethesda, Md., in 1970. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Edward F. O'Brien Jr. of Keystone Heights; daughters Sharon O'Brien of Santa Barbara, Calif., Kathleen Smiley of Ames, Iowa, and Patricia A. Carroll of Keystone Heights; sons Edward O'Brien III of Mendocino, Calif., and Michael P. O'Brien of Keystone Heights; her brother, Edwin T. Bennett; her sister, Barbara Ehinger; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Robert T. Weiner Sr.

Robert Thomas Weiner Sr. of Gainesville died Friday. He was 82.

He was born in Oswego, N.Y., and moved to Gainesville from Oaklawn, Ill., 22 years ago.

He was a retired accountant for Maranatha Christian Ministries.

He served in the U.S. Army in India during World War II. He was a member of Living Faith Fellowship Church.

Mr. Weiner also worked at the University of Florida Registrar's Office and volunteered at the Alachua County Westwood Park polling district.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Geraldine Weiner; daughters Jerilynn Rae Stillwell of Gainesville and Carole Ann Crowell of Chesterfield, Mo.; his son, Robert Thomas Weiner Jr.; his sister, Bluma B. Weiner of N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Flossie C. Covert

MONTEOCHA - Flossie C. Covert, a lifelong resident of Monteocha, died Tuesday at her residence. She was 87.

Mrs. Covert was a homemaker and a member of Old Jerusalem Baptist Church, where she served as a member of the the prayer band, the Saturday Night Gospel Train, the Pallbearers Lodge and the deaconess board.

Survivors include sons Willie Covert of Gainesville and Buddy Dingle of Newport News, Va.; daughters Theresa Nelson, Burnether Anderson, Rejoice Brazil, Delores Golden, Annie Covert and Ruth Strawder, all of Gainesville; 45 grandchildren, 86 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren.

Arthur Day Cherry

Arthur Day Cherry of Horseshoe Beach died Sunday at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. He was 75.

Mr. Cherry was born in Pittsburgh and moved to Horseshoe Beach 30 years ago from St. Petersburg. He was the owner of Bait & Marina and a member of Northside Masonic Lodge 283 of St. Petersburg. He was a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife, Frances G. Cherry of Horseshoe Beach; a daughter, Jean Cherry Frankland of Seminole; sons Calvin F. Cherry II of Thomasville, Arthur Day Cherry Jr., John A. Cherry and William D. Cherry, all of Horseshoe Beach; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mario Cesar Couto

Mario Cesar Couto died Friday at Hospice of North Central Florida in Gainesville following a brief illness. He was 84.

Mr. Couto was born in Cienfuegos, Cuba, and moved to Gainesville from Miami in 1988.

He worked for the telephone company in Cuba and Puerto Rico.

He also was a retired accountant, a Eucharistic minister and a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ana Couto of Gainesville; a daughter, Maria Couto Herbst of Baldwin, N.Y.; sisters Josefina Couto, Hortensia Gonzalez and Elena Merino, all of Miami; and two grandchildren.

Clarice Wheeler Cox

Clarice Wheeler Cox died Sunday at Shands at AGH. She was 88.

Mrs. Cox, a lifetime resident of Alachua County, was born in Forest Grove. She attended the University of Florida and taught school for 13 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her husband, Joe E. Cox.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy Wibbelsman of Gainesville; a son, Gene Cox of Gainesville; and a sister, Ruth Romeyko of Irvine, Calif.

Herbert Edgar Garver

Herbert Edgar Garver of Milton died Saturday at Pasco Regional Hospital. He was 85.

Mr. Garver was born in Marysville, Calif., and moved to Milton from Gainesville 17 years ago. He was a retired master chief in the U.S. Navy and a retired rural mail carrier.

Mr. Garver was a member of the Rural Letter Carriers Association and the Kiwanis Club of Milton. A former member of the Gainesville Lions Club and the Senate Board of Kanapaha Presbyterian Church, he was also once a Boy Scout leader of the Kanapaha Troop and a board member of the Association of Retarded Citizens of Santa Rosa.

Mr. Garver was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsie Lee Garver.

Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Singletary Garver of Milton; a son, John Garver of St. Mary's, Ga.; three granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.
