John Leo Geer

John Leo Geer died Friday at the VA Medical Center in Gainesville. He was 45.

Mr. Geer was born in Manchester, Conn., and moved to Gainesville from Universal City, Texas, 17 years ago. He was an electrician and a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Geer was preceded in death by a brother, Stephen Geer.

Survivors include his wife, Kate Geer of Gainesville; daughters Melissa Geer of Dunnellon and Elizabeth Geer and Laura K. Geer, both of Gainesville; his parents, James C. Geer and Tina Geer of Brooker; sisters Carol DesJardins of Rockville, Conn., Kathleen Gaffey of West Hartford, Conn., and Maria Geer of Brooker; and one grandson.

Harriet H. McAfee

Harriet H. McAfee died Saturday at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. She was 91.

Mrs. McAfee was born in Pittsburgh and moved to Gainesville from Lake Worth in 1980. She was a homemaker and a member of First Lutheran Church.

Mrs. McAfee was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph W. McAfee.

Survivors include her daughter, Gayle Wooding of Gainesville.

Virginia Gayle Phillips

ALACHUA - Virginia Gayle Phillips died Monday at home. She was 46.

Mrs. Phillips, a homemaker, was a lifetime resident of the area.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Phillips Sr.

Survivors include a daughter, Marcy Green of Jacksonville; sons Charlie Johnson of Gainesville and Tommy Fraser and Alex Fraser, both of Keystone Heights; her mother, Virginia Blanche Dixon Tyre of Alachua; sisters Angela Williams and Bonnie Chalmers, both of Alachua; brothers Ralph E. Phillips Jr. of Daytona Beach and Al Chaganis of Tallahassee; and three grandchildren.

Gary R. Troutman Sr.

MAYO - Gary R. Troutman Sr. died Monday at his home after a short illness, surrounded by family and friends. He was 56.

Mr. Troutman was born in Brookville, Pa., and worked for Brockway Press Metals in Brockway, Pa. He moved to Mayo two years ago, where he was a member of Airline Baptist Church and the Day Masonic Lodge 166.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Troutman is survived by his wife of 35 years, Peggy Troutman; sons Michael Troutman of Midway, Ga., Gary Troutman Jr. of Reynoldsville, Pa., and Jason Troutman of Mayo; daughters Joanna Troutman of Orlando, Kimberly Strahl of Deerfield, Lori Hice of Brookville, Pa., and Marlene Smith of Culpeper, Va.; brothers Charles Troutman of Ohio and David Troutman of Pennsylvania; sisters Karen Clinger of Pennsylvania and Linda Taylor of Colorado; and 13 grandchildren.

Kay Francis Brewer Walker

LAWTEY - Kay Francis Brewer Walker died Saturday at Shands at Starke following an extended illness. She was 51.

Mrs. Walker was born in Starke and was a lifelong resident of Bradford County. She was a homemaker and a member of Evergreen Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Michelle Cribbs of Kingsley Lake; sons Chris Walker and Michael Crockett, both of Lawtey; her mother, Clara P. Brewer of Lawtey; a brother, Gary Brewer of Lawtey; sisters Denise Moore of Lawtey, Marsha Norman of Clay Hill, Theresa Degraff of Melrose and Kim Markham of Kingsley Lake; and eight grandchildren.

Mary M. Whitson

Mary M. Whitson died Sunday in Gainesville. She was 81.

Mrs. Whitson was born in Mobridge, S.D., and lived in Jacksonville for more than 50 years. She was a charter member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and made a career of caring for her family. She moved to Gainesville last summer.

Mrs. Whitson was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene N. Whitson.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Lingis of Gainesville; sons Mickey Whitson of Jacksonville and Bruce Whitson of Callahan; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Janice W. Yrausquin

Janice W. Yrausquin of Gainesville died Sunday in Miami. She was 46.

Mrs. Yrausquin was born in Atlanta and moved to Gainesville from Miami in 1996. She was a bookkeeper and software trainer. Mrs. Yrausquin, a Baptist, served as president of the Buchholz High School PTA, president of the Alachua County Computer User Group, and president of the Alachua County Councils PTA. She also was an active member of the Junior League.

Survivors include her husband, Xavier Yrausquin of Gainesville; a son, Xavier Yrausquin Jr. of Gainesville; a brother, Bob Wheeler of Miami; and sisters Susan Wheeler of Raleigh, N.C., and Barbara Wheeler of Montgomery Village, Md.

William Herman Barnes

EARLETON -- William Herman "Buck" Barnes died at his residence Monday. He was 81.

Mr. Barnes was born in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and moved to Earleton from Miami in 1986.

He was a retired insurance agent for State Farm in Miami and a U.S. Army World War II veteran. He played high school football and received a degree in accounting from the University of Alabama. He was a member of the Keystone United Methodist Church, where he served on several boards.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Burkholder Barnes of Earleton; a daughter, Linda Elleen Barnes of Portland, Ore.; a son, Robert Dodge Barnes of Atlanta; and a granddaughter.

Edward Dean

LIVE OAK -- Edward Dean died Sunday following a brief illness. He was 78.

Mr. Dean was born in Howell, Ga., and moved to Live Oak from Clewiston in 1988.

He was a salesman, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a member of the Clewiston Elks Lodge. He attended Wayfair Primitive Baptist Church and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include stepsons Michael C. and Richard W. Herring, both of Live Oak; sisters Peggy White and Wanda Boyette, both of Waycross, Ga.; brothers Roger and Peter Dean Jr., both of Waycross, Ga.; two grandsons; and a great- grandchild.

John C. Martin Jr.

John Cleveland Martin Jr. died Tuesday at his residence in Gainesville. He was 79.

Mr. Martin was born in Hattiesburg, Miss., and moved to Gainesville from Waynesboro, Miss., seven years ago.

He was a lawyer and a member of the Mississippi Trial Lawyers Association. He also worked as a saw mill operator and a land developer. He was a Rotarian and a member of Northwest Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sybil Martin of Gainesville; daughters Cynthia Bush of Gainesville, Carmen Plott of Houston, Texas, and Marilyn Sanford of Jackson, Miss.; a son, John C. Martin III of Houston; sisters Lois Stagg of Pasadena, Texas, Mildred Marsinkus of Huntsville, Texas, and Marie Jones of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; and eight grandchildren.

Mary Armenta McCallum

OLD TOWN -- Mary Armenta McCallum died Monday in Gainesville. She was 68.

Mrs. McCallum was born in Charleroi, Pa., and moved to Gainesville from New Smyrna Beach in 1979.

She was a member of McCalls Chapel United Methodist Church and was active in the women's organization making candy. She was active in fund-raising and playing bingo at the Fanning Springs Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include her husband, Leon McCallum of Old Town; a son, John McCallum of Gainesville; daughters Stephanie McCallum of Seattle and Linda Bray of Orange Lake; sisters Alma Almason of Yuma, Ariz., and Charlotte St. Jermaine of Sacramento, Calif.; and two grandsons.

Eric Shawn Hutchinson Wright

Eric Shawn Hutchison Wright of Ocala died Saturday. He was 26.

The Kentucky native was a Realtor and a Baptist.
