Mary E. Ford

PUTNAM HALL -- Mary E. Ford, a lifelong resident of Putnam Hall, died July 19 at the Hospice House of Gainesville following an extended illness. She was 97.

Mrs. Ford was a homemaker and a member of Abilene Baptist Church, where she served on the Deaconess Board.

She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Heroines of Jericho Court No. 108.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank M. Ford.

Survivors include sons, John Ford of Bronx, N.Y., and Henry L. Ford of Long Island, N.Y.; daughters, Frances Warner and Jane E. Kelly, both of Putnam Hall, Ida M. Bivens and Ona M. Ballard, both of Jacksonville, Bertha Kelly of Gainesville and Catherine Whitaker, both Bronx, N.Y.; 41 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-great-grandchildren.

H. Howard Hock

H. Howard Hock of Leipsic, Ohio, died July 18 at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima, Ohio. He was 74.

The Michigan native was a retired railroad signal maintainer, a U.S. Army World War II veteran and a member of the Leipsic United Methodist Church.

Local survivors include a son, Dr. David Hock of Gainesville.

Harold Daniel Miller

MELROSE -- Harold Daniel Miller died Wednesday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville. He was 76.

Mr. Miller was born in Chicago and moved to Melrose from Coral Springs 13 years ago.

He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a past president of the Paralyzed Veterans Association of the American Legion, and a member of the American Veterans Post 86 and the Fleet Reserve.

He was a member of the Fresh Start Fellowship in Keystone Heights.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Miller of Melrose; daughters, Georgia Ross of Melrose and Robin Phillips of DeBary; a son, Scott Miller of Fort Lauderdale; a brother, Alan Miller of New York; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Dorothea Eleanor Noble

Dorothea Eleanor Noble died Thursday at her residence in Gainesville. She was 77.

Mrs. Noble was born in Easton, Pa., and moved to Gainesville from New Canaan, Conn., 22 years ago.

She was a retired school teacher and a legal secretary.

She was a member of Holy Faith Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Lt. Col. Arthur L. Noble Sr., U.S. Air Force, retired, of Gainesville; sons, Arthur L. Noble Jr. of Boise, Idaho, and David Brian Noble of Mexico City, Mexico; daughters, Elizabeth Anne Flanigan of Gainesville, Kathleen Diane Noble of Seattle, Susan Eileen Noble of San Diego and Eleanor Elizabeth Noble of Kingston, Pa.; and 12 grandchildren.

William Thornton Wilkerson

William Thornton Wilkerson of Gainesville died Thursday at the Hospice House of Gainesville. He was 82.

Mr. Wilkerson was born in Buena Vista, Va., and moved to Gainesville from St. Albans, W.Va., 25 years ago. He was a Protestant and a chemical operator for Union Carbide.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Wilkerson of Gainesville; a daughter, Dr. Ruth Wilkerson-Willis of Gainesville; a son, Dr. James S. Wilkerson of Ocala; a sister, Margaret Robinson of West Virginia; a brother, Robert Wilkerson of North Carolina; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Beatrice Callaway Williams

Beatrice Callaway Williams of Gainesville died July 18 at Integrated Health Services following an extended illness. She was 89.

Mrs. Williams was born in Lizalla, Ga., and moved to Gainesville in the mid-1940s.

She was a homemaker and a member of Williams Temple Church of God in Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. John Williams. Survivors include daughters, Lois Gibson of Warner Robins, Ga., and Diane Williams of Gainesville; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Bessie Ann Clemons

CHIEFLAND -- Bessie Ann Clemons, a longtime resident of Chiefland, died Thursday in Trenton following a lingering illness. She was 75.

She was a retired laborer and a Baptist.

Survivors include daughters Maretha Dockery of Daytona Beach and Rutha Smith, Dessie Thorton, Elizabeth Trips and Doris Adam, all of Hawthorne, Vivian Clemons and Janice White, both of Chiefland, and Brenda Edwards of Columbus, Ga.; sons Charlie Clemons Jr. of Lake Butler, Bobbie Clemons, Jerome Clemons and Basil Buie, all of Chiefland, and Clarence White of Columbus; a brother, Mark McClenon of Delaware; and numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

Annie Mae Eastman

Annie Mae Eastman of Gainesville died Tuesday at Shands at AGH following a brief illness. She was 75.

Mrs. Eastman was born in Hollopow and moved to Gainesville from Lake Butler in the early 1940s.

She was a Baptist and a nursing assistant. She attended the Alachua County public schools.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Son Eastman; and sons David Eastman and Whitty Williams.

Survivors include daughters Mary A. Walker, Florence McNeil, Pearl Powers and Joyce Hall, all of Gainesville, Lillie Johnson of Newark, N.J., Mary Williams of San Diego and Doretha Jones of Archer; sons Charles and Willie James Eastman of Gainesville and Otis Eastman of Arizona; sisters Minnie Maxwell of Gainesville and Carrie Lee Holand of Orlando; brothers Charles and Otis Maxwell, both of Jacksonville; 46 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.

Chinnetta Faye Franklin

Chinnetta Faye Franklin of Tampa died Aug. 8 in Tampa. She was 45.

The Williston native was a saleswoman and a member of Mount Zion A.M.E. Church.

Local survivors include her grandfather, Deacon Louis Carnegie of Williston.

Evelyn Weiss Friedland

Evelyn Weiss Friedland of Gainesville died Tuesday in Gainesville. She was 88.

The New York native moved to Gainesville from Boca Raton last year.

She was a bookkeeper and a member of B'Nai Israel Synagogue.

She enjoyed art, ceramics and reading.

Survivors include her husband, Julius Friedland of Gainesville; a son, Leonard I. Weiss of Gainesville; and three grandchildren.

Dalton Allen Goode

Dalton Allen Goode of Ocala died Tuesday in Ocala. He was 75.

The Alachua native lived in Gainesville before moving to Ocala in 1950.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a Catholic.

He has no local survivors.

Murry Allen Henry

Murry Allen Henry of Gainesville died Tuesday in Gainesville. He was 74.

Mr. Henry was born in Wauchula and moved to Gainesville in 1950.

He was a deliveryman and a Christian.

He was an avid bowler and a longtime member of the Greater Gainesville Bowlers Association.

Survivors include his wife, Ferrell J. Henry of Gainesville; daughters Roxanne Barnett and Sharon Henry, both of Gainesville, and Wanda Connors of Lake City; a son, Bill Henry of Lake City; stepsons Roger Bennett of Starke and Dennis Bennett of Lawtey; brothers Otto Brooks of Lake City and Eugene Brooks of Gainesville; a sister, Ruth Brooks of Spring Hill; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
