Madeline Mary Beckwith

MICANOPY -- Madeline Mary Beckwith died at her residence Monday. She was 84.

Mrs. Beckwith was born in Worcester, Mass., and moved to Micanopy from Fort Lauderdale 41 years ago.

She was vice president of Beckwith Gun Shop and a life member of the National Rifle Association, a charter member of the Outstanding Gunners Awards, a gold member of the Florida Sheriffs Association, and a member of the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranch. She was a member of Holy Faith Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Harry Edward Beckwith of Micanopy; and her caretaker, Holly Raba of Micanopy.

Norma H. Belletti

Norma H. Belletti of Gainesville died Monday in Gainesville. She was 71.

Mrs. Belletti was born in Montreal, Canada, and moved to Gainesville from Ocala in 1999. She was a Catholic and a manager at Timex Corp. She enjoyed painting, dancing and cooking.

Mrs. Belletti was preceded in death by her husband, William Dowling.

Survivors include a daughter, Robin Bellmay of Archer; sisters, Delores Engel and Utah Matt, both of Canada; and brothers, Douglas, Sonny, Gary and Dennis Mall, all of Canada.

Bobby Floyd

LAKE CITY -- Bobby Floyd died Friday from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was 59.

Mr. Floyd was born in Hazelhurst, Ga., and moved to Lake City from Brooksville 20 years ago. He was an automobile mechanic and a Baptist.

Survivors include sons, Glenn Floyd and Wendell Floyd, both of Hazelhurst; his mother, Louise Floyd of High Springs; brothers, Billy, A.J. and Jerelton Floyd, all of Lake City; sisters, Ann Hodges of Hilliard, and Betty Gunn, Faye Johns and Jacqueline Dye, all of Lake City; and four grandchildren.

Elise Cecil Jones

Elise Cecil Jones, a lifelong resident of Gainesville, died Saturday in Columbus, Miss., following a brief illness. She was 91.

A graduate of Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, she was a retired professor in the College of Business at the University of Florida.

She was a charter member of the Retired Faculty, the Altrusa Club of Gainesville and North Florida Retirement Village.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Gainesville.

She has no local survivors.

David Wafford Meeks Sr.

CHIEFLAND -- David Wafford Meeks Sr. died Tuesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 83.

Mr. Meeks was a lifelong resident of Levy County.

He was a Chiefland city commissioner, and he worked at Beauchamp Hardware.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Meeks was a past president of Gulf Hammock Hunting Club and a member of First United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Beauchamp Meeks.

Survivors include a daughter, Loy Ann Mann of Chiefland; a son, David Meeks Jr. of Chiefland; sisters, Jeannette Barton of Williston, Jackie Dishona of Crystal River and Clara McDonnell of Ocala; a brother, Oran "Buck" Meeks of Williston; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Col. Robert G. Sherrard Jr.

Col. Robert G. Sherrard Jr. of Gainesville died Tuesday at the Hospice House of Gainesville. He was 89.

A graduate of West Point, Col. Sherrard received the Silver Star Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal with oak-leaf cluster, the Purple Heart and the French croix de guerre avec etoile d' or during his service in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a lifelong member of the Retired Officers Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Deane Steger Sherrard.

Survivors include a daughter, Angie O. Sherrard of Monterey, Mass.; a son, Robert G. Sherrard III of Pompano Beach; a brother, Col. David G. Sherrard of San Antonio; a sister, May Lorraine "Waynie" Sherrard Cannon of Gainesville; and two grandchildren.

Fred Earl LaGrand

HAWTHORNE - Fred Earl LaGrand Sr. died Sunday at the VA Medical Center of Lake City. He was 78.

Mr. LaGrand was born in Columbia, S.C., and moved to Hawthorne from St. Petersburg 20 years ago. He was a produce farmer and a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Ann LaGrand; four sons, Fred Earl LaGrand Jr. of Atlanta, Hosia Phillip LaGrand of Starke, Lawrence Victor LaGrand of Hawthorne and Jack Edward LaGrand of Clearwater; nine grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren.

Harold L. Monk

Harold L. "Bud" Monk died Saturday at Hospice House Care Center. He was 77.

Mr. Monk was born in Moultrie, Ga., and lived in Gainesville most of his life. He served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II and the Korean War.

He was a co-owner of Monk Tractor Company and later a real estate appraiser.

Survivors include his daughter, Judy Lukens of Orlando; his sons, Harold Monk Jr. and Frank Walters, both of Gainesville; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Donald Ross Phen

Donald Ross Phen died Saturday at his home. He was 67.

Mr. Phen was born in Beloit, Wis., and moved to Gainesville from Illinois in 1981.

He was a machining engineer for Westinghouse Corp.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Phen; his daughter, Lisa Estrada; a brother, Russell Phen of Rockford, Ill., a sister, Ruth Kirchoff of Monona, Wis.; and one grandchild.

Jennie H. Umphenour

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS - Jennie H. Umphenour died Friday in Shands at Starke. She was 80.

Mrs. Umphenour was born in Warsaw, Poland, and moved to Keystone Heights from Jacksonville 34 years ago. She was a homemaker, a clerk for the city of Keystone Heights, a volunteer for Hospice of North Central Florida, a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 279, and a member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church and the Church Women.

Survivors include her husband, Wilford L. Umphenour; son William L. Umphenour of Grand Junction, Colo.; a daughter, Christie Mach of Keystone Heights; two grandchildren; and a great-grand- son.

Gus Coleman

MELROSE -- Gus Coleman of Melrose died July 8 at the Gainesville Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 67.

Mr. Coleman was born in Garland City, Ark., and moved to Melrose from West Palm Beach in 1992. He was a retired automobile painter and a member of the Supreme Pentecostal Church of God in Christ.

He served in Korea with the U.S. Army.

Survivors include a son, Terrell Coleman of California; a daughter, April Coleman of California; two sisters, Stella Johnson and Corean Willis, both of Melrose; seven brothers, Nelson, Daniel, Benny Lee, Marshall, Robert, Roosevelt and James Coleman; and five grandchildren.
