Louvina Jackson Smith

Louvina Jackson Smith of Gainesville died Friday in Gainesville.

Mrs. Smith was a registered nurse.

Born in Manassa, Colo., she moved to Gainesville in 1949.

She attended nursing school in Utah.

Mrs. Smith was a former president of the University of Florida Newcomers Club and of the University Women's Club. She was a charter member of the AP chapter of the PEO in Gainesville.

For many years, she was a Christian Science practitioner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, UF professor T. Lynn Smith.

Survivors include sons Jackson L. Smith of Gainesville and Richard L. Smith of New Orleans; and two grandchildren.

Barbara Lou Sims

TRENTON - Barbara Lou "Auntie Bob" Sims died Aug. 25 at North Florida Regional Medical Center following a lingering illness. She was 64.

Born in Trenton, Mrs. Sims lived in Orlando before returning to Trenton in the 1950s.

She was a retired cook at Trenton High School and a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, where she served as church secretary and choir member.

Survivors include her mother, Willie Mae Sims of Trenton; daughters Emma Walker of Gainesville, and Bernadette Brown, Karen McGee and Carmel McGee, all of Trenton; sons David and Jeffrey Thomas, both of Trenton, and Maurice McGee of Gainesville; sisters Louella Taylor of Cross City, Mary Kearney, Geraldine Sims and Laverne Jones, all of Trenton, and Anne Brown of St. Petersburg; brothers Ralph, Lonnie and Timothy Davis, all of Trenton, Harry Sims of Gainesville, Joe Sims of Miami and Herbert Davis of St. Petersburg; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Marilyn J. Files

Marilyn J. Files of Gainesville died on Thursday at Shands at the University of Florida. She was 72.

Born in Omaha, Neb., Miss Files moved to Gainesville in 1982 from Los Angeles, where she worked as a nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was a member of Living Faith Fellowship and once served as a missionary nurse in Rhodesia.

Survivors include her caregiver, Elizabeth Jordan of Gainesville; and a godchild, Linda Ousley of Australia.

Dayhrion Bayna Warren

Dayhrion Bayna Warren of Gainesville was stillborn on Nov. 7.

She is survived by her mother, Tokkara Joseph, her father, Aubrey Warren, and a step-sister, Aubreyona Warren, all of Gainesville; a step-brother, Aubrey Warren Jr., of Roslyn, La.; maternal grandparents Thelma Wilson and Raymond Joseph Jr.; and paternal grandparents Lucy Warren and Kenneth Wilson, all of Gainesville.

Eric Jason Wheeler

Eric Jason Wheeler died Nov. 8 at North Suburban Hospital in Thornton, Colo. He was 29.

Mr. Wheeler moved from Hawthorne six years ago to Thornton, where he worked as a maintenance engineer and baker. He enjoyed snowboarding with his daughter and was called "Mr. Fix-It" for his love of working on old cars and houses. He was an avid Gators fan,

Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Wheeler, and a daughter, McKenna Chase Wheeler, both of Thornton; and his father, Gene E. Wheeler of Hawthorne.

Doris Cartwright Willis

Doris Cartwright Willis of Gainesville died Saturday at Palm Garden. She was 79.

Born in Louisville, Ky., Mrs. Willis was a retired administrative clerk for Florida Power and Light. She moved in 1981 to Gainesville from Palatka. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Willis.

Survivors include daughters Nancy Moses of Gainesville and Patti Smith of East Palatka; a son, Andy Lynch of Sanibel Island; and three grandchildren.

Barbara Jones

DAYTONA BEACH -- Barbara Jones of Daytona Beach died in her home Saturday. She was 66.

Mrs. Jones was born in Jacksonville and had lived for many years in Gainesville.

Survivors include three sons, Lansing Jones of Fort Lauderdale and Charles Jones and Maxie Jones, both of Daytona Beach; two daughters, Maxine Mann and Jackie Thomas, both of Daytona Beach; her mother, Mable Whitten of Daytona Beach; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Nelson Moore

STARKE -- Nelson Moore of Starke died Sunday in Hospice House of Gainesville following a brief illness. He was 81.

Mr. Moore was born in Starke and was a lifelong resident of Bradford County. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a retired dredge operator for DuPont Co. and was a member of Starke Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Esther Kirkland Moore of Starke; one daughter, Renee Moore Wilson of Branson, Mo.; four stepdaughters, Clara Davis of Wildwood, Allie Mae Murphy of Gainesville, Sylvia Bibler of Bostic, N.C., and Mary Crawford of Starke; one son, Jimmie Nelson Moore of Jacksonville; two sisters, Rosa L. Moore and Lois M. Cox, both of Starke; 12 grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren.

Lessie Mae Norris

LAKE CITY -- Lessie Mae Norris of Lake City died Sunday at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville following a long illness. She was 85.

Mrs. Norris was born in Lake City, the daughter of John and Ernie Raulerson Albritton, and was a lifelong resident. She was a homemaker and a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.

Mrs. Norris was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Benjamin Norris, and three children, John Paul Norris, Farley E. Norris and Betty Mae Hodge; and one sister, Bessie Keen.

Survivors include one son, Jimmy Carlton Norris of Jasper; one daughter, Charlotte N. Ruscher of Bradenton; two brothers, Buck Albritton of Wellborn and Jessie Albritton of Lake City; two sisters, Catherine Sweat of Jacksonville and Ida Lee Clark of Interlachen; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great- grandchildren.

David M. Poore Jr.

HAWTHORNE -- David Madison Poore Jr. of Hawthorne died Monday in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville. He was 68.

Mr. Poore was born in Washington, D.C., and was a lifelong resident of Hawthorne. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War on the U.S.S. Kearsarge and was an industrial maintenance worker for Boise-Cascade Co. in Orlando.

Mr. Poore was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4209 in Ocala, American Legion Post 0230 in Hawthorne, the Disabled American Veterans and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Interlachen.

Mr. Poore was preceded in death by his parents, D.M. and Virgie Poore; one brother, Benjamin M. Poore; one sister, Juanita Poore; and stepsons Jimi Walters and David Walters.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Yvonne Arline Poore of Hawthorne; one daughter, Deanne Poore Sheffield of Orange Lake; two sons, David Poore III and Paul Hancock, both of Hawthorne; 11 grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren.

Roy Porter

FORT WHITE -- Roy Porter of Fort White died Sunday in North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville following a long illness. He was 89.

Mr. Porter, the son of Lon Elder Porter and Ruby Harvey Porter, was born in Columbia City and lived in Fort White most of his life.

He was a school bus driver for 27 years, retiring in 1974. He was a farmer and a member of Elim Baptist Church in Fort White.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Loice Porter of Fort White; two brothers, Ethan Porter of Fort White and Laverne Porter of Lake City; three sisters, Louise Carver of Branford, Lucille Roberts of Orlando and Sara Lee Whitcher of Jacksonville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gertrude Alexander

Gertrude Alexander, a lifelong resident of Gainesville, died Thursday in Wilson, N.C., following a brief illness. She was 96.

Mrs. Alexander was a retired beautician and Tacachale employee.

She was a member of the Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church, where she served as a member of the Stewardess Board and the Lillie V. Harvey Missionary Society.

She served as a Loyal Lady of the University Assembly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. A.F. Alexander.

Survivors include two daughters, Alberta Wynn of Wilson, N.C., and Josephine Williams of Vacaville, Calif.; two sisters, Janie Wiley and Vera Darby, both of Gainesville; two grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren.

Gladys M. Ballard

NEWBERRY - Gladys M. Ballard of Newberry died Tuesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 86.

Mrs. Ballard was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Ballard; a daughter, Helen Marie Farnsworth; a son, Wayne Ballard; and a great-grandchild.

Survivors include a sister, Betty Hinson of Dade City; a brother, Horace Carlisle of Darby; seven grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren.
