Nathaniel Davis

CHIEFLAND - Nathaniel "Bowlegs" Davis died Friday at his home after a long illness. He was 82.

Mr. Davis was born in Campville and raised in Trenton. He retired from Seaboard Coastline and served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Westside Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Olivia Davis of Chiefland; children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; three brothers; and five sisters.

Mason Dearmin Jr.

Mason Dearmin Jr. of Gainesville died Wednesday at Shands at AGH.

He was 85.

Mr. Dearmin was born in Kansas City and moved to Gainesville in 1993. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and worked for Tampa Marine Ship Building Co. and Pinellas Lumber Co. He retired in the 1970s.

He attended Ridgeview Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Blanche Thompson Dearmin of Gainesville; a daughter, Linda Cook of Gainesville; and a sister, Barbara Kuhl of Homosassa.

Ronald E. Fisher

CHIEFLAND - Ronald E. Fisher died Tuesday at Nature Coast Hospital in Williston. He was 70.

Mr. Fisher was born in Rockaway Beach, N.Y., and moved to Chiefland 10 years ago. He was an electrical engineer and served in the Army.

He was a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics and the Moose Lodge No. 325 in Fanning Springs. He enjoyed flying and building model aircraft.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Fisher of Chiefland; sons Brian, Stephen, Matthew and Timothy Fisher, all of North Adams, Mass., Robert Fisher of Clearwater and David Van Meter of Pinellas Park; daughters Darlene Fisher of Seminole, Elaine Fisher of Tampa, Darla Van Meter of Chiefland, Denny Van Meter of Seminole, Donna Van Meter of Manass, Va., and Debbie Van Meter of Seminole; brothers Richard Fisher of Spokane, Wash., and Roger Fisher of Winter Haven; a sister, Diane McCalister of Chiefland; and nine grandchildren.

Charlie C. Fomby Sr.

Charlie C. Fomby of Gainesville died Sunday at Shands at the University of Florida after a lingering illness. He was 57.

Mr. Fomby was born in Lincoln, Ala., and moved to Gainesville in 1960. He attended public schools in Lincoln and was a brick mason.

He was Baptist.

Survivors include his former wife, Johann Johnson Fomby of Gainesville; daughters Stephanie Fomby, Ingrid Starling, Pearlie Mae Fomby, LaTarsha Fomby and Erica Fomby, all of Gainesville; sons Charlie Fomby III and Alfred Denmark, both of Gainesville; brothers Frank and Lovell Fomby, both of Gainesville; a sister, Georgia Bell Montgomery of Lincoln; and 16 grandchildren.

Emma Greenlee

JACKSONVILLE - Emma Greenlee died Monday at Park Ridge Nursing Center. She was 84.

She lived in Bronson most of her life and was a housekeeper. She was a member of St. John Baptist Church in Bronson.

Survivors include a daughter, Ethel Brinson of Bronson; sons Charles L. Greenlee of Nashville, Tenn., Earl Greenlee of Memphis, Tenn., Roy L. Greenlee of Newport News, Va., Wade Greenlee of Jacksonville and Larry Greenlee of Bronson; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a caregiver, Queen Glover-Gary of Bronson.

John Henry King Sr.

John "Mr. Buddy" Henry King Sr. of Gainesville died Aug. 15 at Hospice of North Central Florida after a brief illness. He was 89.

Mr. King was born in Fort Myers and moved to Gainesville from Campville in 1951. He was a machinist at Gainesville Scrap Iron.

He was a member of Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn N. King; and a son, John Henry King Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Williams-King of Gainesville; sons Isaiah and Bennie L. King, both of Gainesville; daughters Vera K. Wilson of Jacksonville and Edith K. Brown of Brooker; 10 grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren.

Virginia Opal McCallister

WALDO - Virginia Opal McCallister died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 81.

She was born in Putnam County, W.Va., and moved to Waldo in 1956. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman McCallister; and a son, James Harvey McCallister.

Survivors include a son, Billy H. McCallister of Hawthorne; a daughter, Beverly Ann Malloy of Trenton; brothers Bill and Bernard Tincher, both of Hurricane, W.Va.; sisters Jewell Thornton Williams of St. Albans, W.Va., Ethel Smith of Hurricane and Thelma Ashworth of Huntington, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Ella Marie Stahl

ARCHER - Ella Marie Stahl died Sunday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 88.

She was born in McKeesport, Pa., and moved to Archer from Sarasota one year ago. She was a stage and theater actress, and a member of the Sarasota Art Association, the National League of American Pen Women and St. Boniface Episcopal Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, artist Ben Stahl.

Survivors include a daughter, Regina Briskey of Archer; a son, David Frankin Andrew Stahl of Sarasota; a brother, Richard Lehocky of North Carolina; and a grandchild, Jessica Morris of Archer.

John Francis Striano

John Francis Striano of Gainesville died Wednesday at his home after a long illness. He was 69.

He was born in New York City and moved to Gainesville from Ocala in 1987. He was a retired captain with the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was a member of the Retired Officers Association and Abiding Savior Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Striano of Gainesville; sons, Ronald J. Striano of Charlotte, N.C., and Christopher J. Striano of Houston; a daughter, Tina M. Hay of Gainesville; a sister, Cathy Kozak of Springhill; brothers Joseph M. Striano of Floral Park, N.Y., and Alfred Striano of New Port Richey; and a granddaughter;

Earl B. Tanny

DAYTONA BEACH - Earl B. Tanny died Aug. 13 at his home. He was 76.

He was born in Syracuse, N.Y., and moved to Daytona Beach in 1962. He was an Army veteran, and employed by General Electric and the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Tanny of Daytona Beach; a son, Philip Tanny of Gainesville; a daughter, Lynn Tanny of Gainesville; and sisters Byrle MacKenzie and Ann Hass, both of Syracuse.

Eliza Ann Townsend

Eliza Ann Townsend of Gainesville died Tuesday at her home.

She was 51.

She was born in York, Ala., and moved to Gainesville 12 years ago. She was in the home child care business and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include daughters Angela Townsend-Danzy and Archie Townsend, both of Gainesville; sisters Helen Bell of Chiefland and Lula Coleman of Alabama; brothers L.C., Jessie and John Townsend, all of Ohio; and six grandchildren.
