James Walker

James Walker of Gainesville died Aug. 15 at Shands at AGH. He was 67.

Mr. Walker was born in Barnwell, S.C., and moved to Gainesville in the 1950s. He was a crane operator with Koppers Industries. He was a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by a son, James Walker Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Girt Lee Thomas-Walker of Gainesville; daughters Linda and Patricia Walker of Gainesville; sons McAllister, Bobby and Charles Thomas Walker, all of Gainesville; sisters Mary Peterson of New York City and Edna Dortch of Delray Beach; brothers Wilbur Walker of Barnwell, Leon Jones of Delray Beach and Charles Jones of Columbus, S.C.; and many grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

Donald Brooks Wilcox

Donald Brooks Wilcox of Gainesville died Aug. 16 in Loveland, Colo. He was 90.

Mr. Wilcox was born in Walden, N.Y., and taught industrial engineering and safety at the University of Alabama, Georgia Tech and the University of Florida. He was one of the country's first industrial engineering professors.

He served on the National Transportation Safety Council and the National Safety Board. He also helped develop the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

He served as a captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Morgan Wilcox; a son, Donald Wilcox; and a daughter, Ruth Wilcox Romero.

Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn Raymond of Gering, Neb.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Jackie Lee Williams

REDDICK - Jackie Lee Williams died Aug. 16 in Ocala. She was 70.

She was born in Fairfield and was a retired supervisor of adult counseling.

She was Baptist.

Survivors include daughters Rosa Allen and Brendell Edwards, both of Reddick, Kim Torres, Trina Morand and Valarie Patterson, all of Ocala, Lacretia Pickett of Orlando and Lashune Rabb of Fort Lauderdale; sons O.B. Brown, Kent Patterson and Michael Patterson, all of Reddick; sisters Dorothy Perry of Delray Beach, Robertha Savage and Adelle Riggins, both of Fairfield, and Ernestine Green of Gainesville; a brother, Lawrence Robinson of Fairfield; 50 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Lorene Reed Williams

Lorene Reed Williams of Gainesville died Saturday at Gainesville Health Care Center after a lingering illness.

She was born in Tallahassee and moved to Gainesville in the early 1930s. She attended Lincoln High School and Florida A&M;, and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Daughters of the Elks and Shady Grove Primitive Baptist Church, where she was a deaconess and an usher.

She is survived by a sister, Frances Glenn of San Bernardino, Calif.

Virginia Cameron Borneman

Virginia Cameron Borneman of Gainesville died Saturday at Shands at AGH. She was 77.

A lifelong resident of Gainesville, Mrs. Borneman was born in Charlotte, N.C. She was a homemaker and a member of Lake Forest Baptist Church.

Mrs. Borneman was preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Borneman Sr.

Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Weeks and Betsy Borneman, both of Gainesville; a son, John Roebuck of Bradenton; a sister, Evelyn Cameron Monday of Gainesville; and four grandchildren.

Margaret Carter Bowman

Margaret Carter Bowman of Texarkana, Texas, died Sunday. She was 82.

Mrs. Bowman was born in South Charleston, W.Va., and had lived in Texarkana since 1999. She was a former resident of Gainesville.

Elizabeth A. Hamilton

Elizabeth A. Hamilton of Gainesville died Saturday. She was 89.

Mrs. Hamilton was born in New York and moved to Gainesville in 1971 from Ormond Beach. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

She is survived by two sons, Fred A. and Peter A. Hamilton, both of Gainesville; two brothers, Edward Wahreit of Osprey and Fred Wahreit of New York; three sisters, Mary McRae of Estero, and Kathie Stanco and Gloria Sappelsa of New York; and a granddaughter, Julianna Hamilton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick A. Hamilton II.

Evelyn Naomi Light

WILLISTON -- Evelyn Naomi Light died Saturday in Williston at Nature Coast Regional Hospital following a long illness. She was 97.

Mrs. Light was born in Moberly, Mo., and moved to Williston in 1991 from Tallahassee. She was a retired nurse with Victoria Hospital in Miami.

Survivors include a daughter, Rudine Dykes of Williston; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great- great-grandchild.

Knauff Funeral Home of Williston is in charge of arrangements.

Dominick Joseph Piccini

INTERLACHEN -- Dominick Joseph Piccini of Interlachen died Thursday at his home following a long illness. He was 72.

Born in Newark, N.J., Mr. Piccini moved to Interlachen 17 years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran and operated Don Joe's Pizza in Interlachen.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Piccini.

Survivors include four daughters, Christine Piccini of Georgia, Marie Elaine Pendleton of New York, Carolyn Piccini and Jeanette Loitto, both of New Jersey; three sons, Joseph Piccini, Dominick Piccini and Matthew Piccini, all of New Jersey; two stepdaughters, Linda Julian of Texas and Carol Schurley of Interlachen; three stepsons, Martin Julian of Interlachen, and James Julian and Robert Julian, both of New Jersey; one sister, Carol Ann Piccini of New Jersey; five brothers, Matthew Piccini of Arizona, Joseph Piccini and Gerald Piccini, both of Kentucky, and Mark Piccini and Anthony Piccini, both of New Jersey; 17 grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren.

Margie S. Baldwin

Margie S. Baldwin died Thursday at Shands at AGH. She was 79.

Mrs. Baldwin was born in Otter Creek and moved to Gainesville from Tampa in 1990. She was a registered nurse and anesthetist. She was a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in World War II, a member of the Eastern Star and a graduate of Gainesville High School. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include her son, George Maxwell Banks of Richmond, Va.; brother Herman P. Harvey of Old Town; and sister Evelyn Williams of Crystal River.

Lillie L. Downing

NEWBERRY - Lillie Lundy Downing died Friday at Shands at AGH. She was 64.

Mrs. Downing was born in Steinhatchee and moved to Newberry in 1963. She was a retired instructor at Santa Fe Community College and a sponsor of Phi Beta Lambda, a student business organization that she guided to several national and state championships.

Mrs. Downing was preceded in death by her husband, James Downing. Survivors include one son, James Downing of Gilchrist County; one daughter, Rhonda Rogers of Newberry; one brother, Truman L. Lundy of Steinhatchee; one sister, Jewel Douglas of Fort Myers; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Lula M. Filmer

SAVANNAH, GA. - Lula Mae Filmer died Friday in the Heritage Park Nursing Home. She was 91.

Mrs. Filmer was born in Lowell and has lived in Savannah since the 1970s. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Survivors include son Charles Filmer of Savannah; sister Mary Leila Tillman of Micanopy; five grandchildren; and 10-great- grandchildren.

Charles F. Hamilton

STARKE - Charles Fredrick Hamilton died Saturday at Shands at Starke following an extended illness. He was 81.

Mr. Hamilton was born in Farmington, W.Va., and wintered in Starke. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and the Korean War. He was a Navy reservist, retired from the Weirton Steel Mill in Weirton, W.Va. He was a Protestant.

Survivors include his wife, Olga Hamilton of Weirton; one son, Anthony Brock of Rock Hill, S.C.; daughters Etta Mullis of Greenville, S.C., Donna Lynn Yeager of Palm Springs; Carolyn Lamp of Weirton and Jennie Sue Anderson of Raleigh, N.C.; one brother, Harold Hamilton of Weirton; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
