Lovie C. Jones

OLD TOWN - Lovie Copeland Jones died Friday after a lengthy illness. She was 94.

Mrs. Jones was a lifelong resident of Dixie County from a pioneering family. She was a homemaker and a member of Rock Sink Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Ray Jones of Perry; five daughters, Margie Brown and Sharon Ford, both of DeLand, Willene Gay of Gainesville, Shandry Hembree of Crystal River, and Nell Stutts of Jacksonville; brother Cauley Copeland of Cross City; sister Hettie Jones of Old Town; 15 grandchildren; and 27 great- grandchildren.

Thomas Legato

FANNING SPRINGS - Thomas Legato died Tuesday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville. He was 76.

Mr. Legato was born in Fairview, N.J., and moved to Fanning Springs from Miami four years ago. He was the owner of Old Cutler Service Center in Miami and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his former wife, Constance Legato; daughters Barbara Brummer of Gainesville and Maria Lisa Legato of Miami; sons Alan Thomas Legato of Salt Lake City and Thomas John Legato of Miami; one sister, Catherine Del Vecchio of New Jersey; and five grandchildren.

Lucy W. McKinney

OLD TOWN - Lucy W. McKinney died Saturday after a lengthy illness. She was 73.

Mrs. McKinney was a lifelong resident of Dixie County. She was a homemaker and a member of McCrabb Baptist Church.

Survivors include her niece, Carol Burnett of Lake City; nephews Jimmy Davis of Alabama, Charles Davis of Hawthorne, Allen Davis of Steinhatchee, Andy Weeks of Old Town, David Weeks of Georgia, Stan McKinney of Cross City and Ken McKinney of Seattle.

Rhea A. Meadows

LAWTEY - Rhea Allen Meadows died Thursday at Shands at Starke following an extended illness. He was 52.

Mr. Meadows was born in San Antonio and moved to Starke from Jacksonville four years ago. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years and worked at Spectrum Information Corp.

Survivors include his wife, Julia M. Meadows of Lawtey; daughters Jeanette Williams of Jacksonville and Teresa Nissen of DeWitt, Iowa; sons Gary Curley and Jesse Curley, both of Jacksonville, Kevin Curley of Lawtey, and Arnold Curley of Texas; stepmother Bertha Meadows of Texas; stepsister Barbara Meadows of Texas; four grandchildren; and one great- grandchild.

Frances Taylor

CEDAR KEY - Frances Taylor died Friday in her home. She was 85.

Mrs. Taylor was born in West Liberty, Ky., and moved to Cedar Key 34 years ago.

She owned the Sunset Isle Motel and RV Park, was instrumental in the founding of the Historical Society of Cedar Key and the Cedar Key Arts Festival, and was a member of Christ Episcopal Church.

Survivors include her sister, Lillian C. Brown of Montgomery, Ala.; son James Taylor of Cedar Key; daughter Patricia T. Royal of Fayetteville, N.C.; three grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren.

Geraldine F. Truman

INTERLACHEN - Geraldine Fay Truman died Friday at Shands at the University of Florida following an extended illness.

She was 60.

Mrs. Truman was born in Jacksonville and moved to Interlachen from Gainesville 16 years ago.

She attended Alachua County schools, was a switchboard operator for the Florida Furniture Co. and was a member of First Baptist Church of Interlachen.

Survivors include her husband, Gaylord Truman of Interlachen; one son, Rick Melton of Williston; daughters Suzanne Land of Gainesville, Dianne Tommie of Orange Lake and Sandy Johnson of Phoenix; one sister, Nancy Swilley of Melrose; and five grandchildren.

Shirley Mae Beason

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS - Shirley Mae Beason of Keystone Heights died Thursday at Shands at Starke. She was 70.

The Jacksonville native moved to Keystone Heights from Ava, Mo., in 1991.

She was a homemaker and a volunteer librarian.

She attended Wesleyan College in Macon, Ga., for two years.

She was a member of St. William Catholic Church, where she served as church organist.

Survivors include sons Kim Beason of Oxford, Miss., Kevin Beason of Charleston, S.C., Kelly Beason of Carthage, Mo., and Keith Beason of Keystone Heights; a brother, George Kramer of Jacksonville; and four grandchildren.

Virginia L. Burleson

Virginia L. Burleson of Leesburg died Friday. She was 86.

The Dade City native was a retired secretary and a Presbyterian.

Local survivors include a son, J. Christopher Burleson of Williston.

John Henry Dowling Jr.

RAIFORD - John Henry Dowling Jr. of Raiford died Friday at the Tri-County Nursing Home. He was 73.

Mr. Dowling moved to Raiford from Miami 20 years ago.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include a son, John Henry Dowling III of Miami; daughters Hollie Dowling of Coconut Creek, Lorrie Malzenski of Chicago, Marcia and Jacquelyn Dowling, both of New York, and Sherry Dowling of Texas; a brother, Donald Richard Dowling of Raiford; a sister, Dorothy Olivieri of Chiefland; and three grandchildren.

Henry B. Duckwall Jr.

ARCHER - Henry B. Duckwall Jr. of Archer died Thursday in Gainesville. He was 51.

Mr. Duckwall was born in Tampa and moved to Archer from Coatesville, Pa., three years ago.

He was a phlebotomist and a Protestant. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Survivors include daughters Jeanenne Duckwall of York, Pa., Nicole Snow of Paradise, Pa., and Corrine Duckwall of Coatesville; his mother, Lucille Duckwall of St. Petersburg; and two sisters, Renee Smith of St. Petersburg and Margaret B. Van Pelt of Archer.

Estella Fleming

Estella Fleming, a lifelong resident of Gainesville, died Aug. 11 at the Hospice of North Central Florida following an extended illness. She was 62.

Mrs. Fleming was a custodian.

Survivors include sons Issac, George and Moses Fleming Jr., all of Gainesville; daughters Pamela Fleming of Orlando and Mona Fleming of Gainesville; a sister, Helen R. Jones of Gainesville; a brother, David Ducree of Fort Myers; five grandchildren; and a great- grandchild.

Bobbie Jean Mikell Griffis

RAIFORD - Bobbie Jean Mikell Griffis of Raiford died Thursday in Gainesville. She was 63.

Mrs. Griffis was born in Baker County and lived in Union County for most of her life.

She was a retired nurse's aide with Northeast Florida State Hospital in Macclenny and a member of New River New Congregation Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Lemmie L. Griffis; and a son, Aubrey Wayne Griffis.

Survivors include daughters Gayle Thornton and Glenda Gunter, both of Raiford; sons Neil and Kevin Griffis of Raiford; a sister, Gracie Raulerson of Macclenny; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
