Bernard B. Jatul

Bernard B. Jatul of Gainesville died Wednesday at his residence. He was 83.

Mr. Jatul was born in Stoughton, Mass., and moved to Gainesville from Pleasantville, N.Y., in 1982.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Singles Group and a retired chemist with Reed and Carnick Pharmaceutical Co. He received his doctorate in chemistry from the University of Florida.

He enjoyed dancing and music.

Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Jatul of Seattle; and a grandchild.

Bessie Nelle Wade Needham

Bessie Nelle Wade Needham of Ocala died Wednesday. He was 80.

She was the retired executive director of ARC of Marion. She attended P.K. Yonge Laboratory School in Gainesville and moved to Ocala in 1936.

She is survived by her husband, T.W. Needham, and two sons and two grandchildren, all from Ocala.

Clifford B. Searles

Clifford B. Searles of Indian Harbor Beach died Dec. 29 in Augusta, Ga. He was 80.

The former Gainesville resident was a retired electrical engineer, a U.S. Air Force veteran and a Methodist.

He has no local survivors.

Phyllis Mae Cavey

FORT WHITE - Phyllis Mae Cavey died Tuesday. She was 77.

Mrs. Cavey was born in Baltimore and moved to Fort White from Gainesville 13 years ago. She was a homemaker and a Lutheran.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Cavey Jr., and a granddaughter.

Survivors include daughters Nancy Cavey of St. Petersburg and Carol Brumfield of Middleburg; a son, Bruce Cavey of Fort White; and four grandchildren.

James Wilkes Browne

HAWTHORNE - James Wilkes Browne died Monday at Oaks Residential and Rehabilitation Center. He was 81.

Mr. Browne was born in Kansas City, Kan., and moved to Hawthorne from Fort Lauderdale in 1986.

He was a salesman for Keebler Products. He enjoyed golfing and bowling.

Survivors include his wife, Staci Browne of Hawthorne; daughters Melinda Belchinger of Marianna and Jodi Lynn Vera of Port St. Lucie; a son, Jeffrey Beaumont of Davie; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

William Thearon Croft

William Thearon Croft, a former Waldo resident, died March 12 in Columbia, S.C. He was 56.

Mr. Croft worked in law enforcement and served in the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include a son, Steve Croft of Gainesville; a daughter, Tiffany Croft of Columbia, S.C.; a brother, Henry Lee Croft Jr. of Gainesville; a sister, Linda Helm of Texas; and four grandchildren.

Edna Marie King

WILLISTON - Edna Marie King died Tuesday at Nature Coast Hospital. She was 81.

Mrs. King was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., and moved to Williston 20 years ago.

She was a homemaker and a member of AARP. She enjoyed cooking and home decorating.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul King Sr.

Survivors include daughters Edna "Sis" Clark of Miami, Nancy Ann Artell of LaFayette, Tenn., Carolyn A. Wells and Paulnetta M. Gray, both of Tallahassee; sons Charles H. Eckenroth of Reading, Pa., Richard King of Christmas and Paul King Jr. of Morriston; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a great-great- grandchild.

Ruby Louise O'Berry

LAKE BUTLER - Ruby Louise O'Berry died Monday at the Hospice House of Gainesville. She was 81.

Mrs. O'Berry was born in Douglas, Ga., and moved to Lake Butler from Lawtey in 1995.

She was a homemaker and a member of Harvest Community Full Gospel Church.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Hazel Cobb.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, the Rev. Hoke O'Berry of Lake Butler; a son, William G. O'Berry of Inverness; sisters Nora Barry of Tifton, Ga., and Lula Lumpton of Georgia; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

David Allan Reber

McINTOSH - David Allan Reber died Tuesday at Shands at the University of Florida. He was 61.

Mr. Reber was born in Decatur, Ind., and moved to McIntosh from North Manchester, Ind., 46 years ago. He was a former mayor of McIntosh and the former owner of David's Bar-B-Que.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of McIntosh.

Survivors include daughters Veronica G. Hatch of Van Cleve, Miss., and Pamela Ann Martinez of Orlando; sisters Anne Fagen of Flagler Beach and Gloria Dykes of Alachua; brothers Dean Reber of Gainesville, Henry Reber of Greenville, S.C., Danny Reber of Lynchburg, Va., and Tim Reber of Jacksonville; and three grandchildren.

Martha Bishop Simmons

Martha Bishop Simmons, a lifelong resident of Gainesville, died Monday at her residence. She was 84.

Mrs. Simmons was a teacher and principal in the Alachua County School System for 23 years.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Archer, where she was in charge of the church restoration projection for its 75th anniversary.

Survivors include a daughter, Lilla Simmons Moye of Archer; a foster son, John E. Sweet of Lakeland; a brother, Berton M. Bishop of Archer; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Victor Byrd Shipley Sr.

TRENTON - Victor Byrd Shipley Sr. died Sunday at his residence. He was 73.

Mr. Shipley was born in Goose Creek, S.C., and moved to Trenton from Gainesville in 1973. He was a retired pharmacist with Eckerd Drugs.

He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He served as pastor at Suwannee River Baptist Church for several years. He was instrumental in starting the Suwannee River Christian Academy and served as a board member from 1987 to 1995.

He was a pilot and an avid golfer.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Helen C. Shipley of Trenton; a daughter, Carla LaBruce Coarsey of Trenton; sons Charles Guy Shipley of Gainesville and Victor Shipley Jr. of Trenton; a sister, Clara Haigler of Columbia, S.C.; a brother, Fred Shipley of Kansas City, Mo.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
