Harry L. Morgan Jr.

MELROSE - Harry L. "Bill" Morgan Jr. of Melrose died Thursday at Shands at UF. He was 93.

Mr. Morgan retired from the E.I. DuPont Co. in 1973.

Born in Wilmington, Del., he moved from Delaware to Florida 54 years ago.

He was the mayor of Keystone Heights in 1953 and was a founding member of the Keystone Heights Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed boating and playing dominoes.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Westervelt Morgan.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Ellen Furry Morgan of Melrose; three sons, Peter W. Morgan and wife, Jeannine Morgan of Ponte Vedra, Robert W. Morgan and wife, Mary Morgan of Naples, and Harry L. Morgan III of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Maryann Muther of Orlando; a sister, Marion Ann Ryan of Hendersonville, N.C.; and five grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the American Heart Association.

John Earl Stephens

John Earl "Jes" Stephens of Gainesville died unexpectedly Friday in Gainesville. He was 21.

Mr. Stephens was a student at Santa Fe Community College.

He was a lifelong resident of Gainesville and a 1998 graduate of Buchholz High School.

He loved cars and music, and he was an avid Gator sports fan.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Grace Hardee Curtin of Gainesville; his father, John L. Stephens of Gainesville; a sister, Christine Stephens of Gainesville; and his aunt and uncle, Susan and Bill Arnold of Gainesville.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the Boys' Club of Alachua County or to Countryside Baptist Church, both in Gainesville.

Lois Irene Watkins

Lois Irene Watkins of Gainesville died Friday in Gainesville. She was 82.

Mrs. Watkins was a homemaker.

Born in Cherokee County, Ala., she moved from Detroit to Gainesville 15 years ago.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, R.B., Carl, Otis, Junis "Dick" and John Roy; and by one sister, Juanita Gomez.

Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Thomas Watkins of Gainesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mildred Lucille Johnson Worley

JOHNSON - Mildred Lucille Johnson Worley of Johnson died Saturday in Palatka. She was 84.

Mrs. Worley was a former teacher in Putnam County and a guidance counselor at Interlachen Middle and High School.

She was a lifelong resident of Johnson and received a master's degree from the University of Florida.

Mrs. Worley was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hawthorne, the Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Senior Friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas N. Worley.

Survivors include two brothers and sisters-in-law, Floyd and Mary Johnson of Palatka and Charles and Marilyn Johnson of Ormond Beach; a nephew; and two nieces.

Robert Clay Cave

MELROSE - Robert Clay Cave died Sunday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 74.

A native of Laureville, Ohio, he moved to Melrose 15 years ago from Chillicothe, Ohio.

Mr. Cave was a retired U.S. Air Force chief master sergeant and a retired department manager for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

He began his service in the Army in 1945 and completed his military service in the Air Force in 1975. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

He was a Protestant.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Riley Cave of Melrose; a daughter, Vicki Mann of Richmond, Va.; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Lorene Clemons

LIVE OAK - Lorene Clemons died Sunday at Shands at Lake Shore following a brief illness. She was 79.

The Suwannee County native was a homemaker and a member of the Pine Level Missionary Baptist Church in Live Oak.

Survivors include daughters Margaret Boatright, Geraldine Anderson, Betty Clemons and Allene Hayes, all of Live Oak; a sister, Lena Bell of Atlanta; and three grandchildren.

Alice Markel Coan

Alice Markel Coan of Gainesville died Sunday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 68.

Mrs. Coan was born in Bronx, N.Y., and moved to Gainesville from Buffalo, N.Y., in 1964.

She was a social worker with the state Department of Health and Rehabilitation Services and a member of B'Nai Israel.

She enjoyed art, reading and gardening.

Survivors include sons Aaron Markel of Arlington, Va., Jordan Markel of Tampa and Philip Markel of West Melbourne; a brother, Arthur Tatelbaum of Detroit; a sister, Marjorie Bieber of Coconut Creek; and three grandchildren.

Mary Varnes Cone

Mary Varnes Cone of Gainesville died Saturday at Shands at AGH. She was 80.

The Jacksonville native was a homemaker and a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Selby Varnes; and sons Lloyd Varnes and Selby Varnes Jr.

She is survived by a great-niece, Betty Ramsey of High Springs.

Mary Jane Davis

Mary Jane Davis of Gainesville died Sunday at her residence. She was 83.

A native of Minneapolis, she moved to Gainesville from Miami in 1989.

She was a retired legal secretary for the state of Florida and a member of the Kanapaha Presbyterian Church. She served with the American Red Cross during World War II.

She is survived by a daughter, Alice Davis of Gainesville; a son, Edward Davis of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a sister, Jean Rauen of Crosslake, Minn.; and four grandchildren.

Elma Edwards Hamilton

BROOKER - Elma Edwards Hamilton died Monday at Bradford Terrace Care Center in Starke following an extended illness. She was 95.

Mrs. Hamilton was born in Union County and lived in Bradford County most of her life.

She was a homemaker and a member of New River Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Zedra Hamilton; and sons, Tommy and Jimmy Hamilton.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law and caregiver for many years, Louise Hamilton of Brooker; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
