Robert Carl Gray

Robert Carl Gray of Spruce Pine, N.C., died Tuesday in Gainesville. He was 78.

Mr. Gray was born in Hazard, Ky., and moved to Spruce Pine in 1977.

He had wintered in Gainesville for the past six years.

He was a retired sergeant major in the U.S. Marine Corps and a Methodist.

He was a member of the Mitchell County Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include his wife, Augusta J. Gray of Spruce Pine; a daughter, Terri Gray Henson of Fayetteville, N.C.; a son, Robert C. Gray Jr. of Brandon; a brother, James C. Gray of Louisville, Ky.; five grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren.

Darrius Marcell Hutchinson

Darrius Marcell Hutchinson of Alachua died Monday in Gainesville. He was 9.

He was born in Gainesville and moved from Hawthorne last year. He was a student at Sidney Lanier Center.

Survivors include his mother, Katrina Hutchinson of Gainesville; father Prevene Wright of Hawthorne; two sisters, Alanta Allen Robinson and Ra-Gene Robinson, both of Gainesville; grandparents Manuel and Ruth Hutchinson, and Temperance and Janes Elleby, all of Hawthorne; five aunts, Debra Lambert, Shirlene Smith, Sherry Hutchinson, Yvonda Hutchinson and Regina Hutchinson, all of Gainesville; and four uncles, Manuel Hutchinson Jr. from Pompano Beach and Daryll Hutchinson, Rodney Hutchinson and Gregory Hutchinson, all of Hawthorne.

Edith Manning Lamberth

Edith Manning Lamberth of Gainesville died Tuesday. She was 96.

Mrs. Lamberth was born in Higley and moved to Gainesville from Ocala in 1949. She was a member of East Side Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, June Wiggins of Panama City, Shirley Smith of Ocala and Cheryl Hilliard of Gainesville; two sisters, Estelle Miller and Pearl Webb, both of Ocala; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Hospice of North Central Florida.

John Sobosky

WILLISTON -- John Sobosky of Williston died Monday in Williston. He was 78.

A native of Pennsylvania, Mr. Sobosky moved to Williston from Orlando in 1982.

He was a retired water reservoir engineer and a Lutheran.

He served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include a sister, Joan Soucey of Michigan; and four brothers, George Sobosky and Joseph Sobosky, both of Michigan, Mike Sobosky of Washington and Paul Sobosky of California.

John Kenneth Osteen

PERRY -- John Kenneth "Poppy" Osteen of Perry died Tuesday in Tallahassee. He was 77.

Mr. Osteen was born in Mayo and moved to Perry from Lake City in 1953.

He was a retired Department of Transportation employee and a U.S. Army World War II veteran.

Mr. Osteen was a member of Perry Kiwanis and a past member of Perry Elks Lodge 1851.

Survivors include his wife, L.E. Osteen of Perry; a daughter, Marilyn Louise Goodman of Panama City; a son, Brian Jackson Osteen of Fort White; two stepdaughters, Melba Haygood and Gail Pepilska, both of Perry; four stepsons, Kenneth Wright, Ricky Wright, Michael Wright and Duran Wright, all of Perry; four sisters, Sue Padgett and Janice Nell Mantzanas, both of Perry, Jeannie Bennett of Jennings and Jackie Taylor of Felda; two brothers, Thomas Bernard Osteen of Naples and Samuel Hampton Osteen of Mayo; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mark Schuncke

A memorial service for Mark Schuncke, who died last Friday in Asheville, N.C., will be held Saturday at noon at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in the Paige Parrish Hall. A reception will follow at Wallace and Andrea Coe's home.

The Rev. William M. Wolfe Sr.

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS -- The Rev. William M. Wolfe Sr. of Keystone Heights died Thursday at the Hospice House of Gainesville following an extended illness. He was 72.

The Rev. Wolfe was born in St. Petersburg and moved to the Keystone Heights area in 1945. He was an ordained minister and a charter member of First Baptist Church. He was pastor of Oak Hill Baptist Church in Gainesville for 15 years.

He was a supervisor of meter readers with Clay Electric, retiring after 43 years.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia Wolfe of Keystone Heights; two daughters, Carol Rozear of Gainesville and Gail Acree of Archer; a son, Billy Wolfe Jr. of San Mateo; two sisters, Eloise Hatfield and Betty Hayes, both of Tampa; two brothers, Ted Wolfe of Brandon and the Rev. Henry Wolf of York, Pa.; and seven grandchildren.

Marguerite Anne Baker

Marguerite Anne Baker died Sunday at Shands at the University of Florida. She was 75.

Mrs. Baker was born in Portland, Maine, and moved to Gainesville from Winter Park 15 years ago.

She was an administrative assistant at UF's law school and was widely known in Gainesville as "Grandma." She was Catholic.

Survivors include daughters, Donna Loudermilk and Cheryl Baker; sons, Thomas Baker of Laramie, Wyo., and Dan Baker of Madison, Wis.; a brother, Lawrence Murray of Arizona; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

William Duval Dampier

William Duval "Papa" Dampier of Gainesville died Monday at Shands at AGH. He was 82.

Mr. Dampier was retired from the Department of Transportation and was a farmer in the LaCrosse area. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II.

He was a lifelong Gainesville resident and a member of Antioch Baptist Church in LaCrosse.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Madeleine Dampier of Gainesville; sons, Brian William Dampier, Clyde Hall Dampier and Neil Colin Dampier, all of Gainesville; a brother, Jimmy Dampier of Gainesville; sisters, Emdlle Kirby of Gainesville and Margie Buie of Lake City; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Jeannette L. Darby

Jeannette L. Darby of Gainesville died Sunday at Palm Garden of Gainesville. She was 101.

Mrs. Darby was a retired child psychologist. Born in Belle Fousche, S.D., she moved from Pittsburgh to Gainesville 33 years ago.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she played the organ for years. She also was a member of the Alachua General Hospital Auxiliary and was past president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Pittsburgh.

Mrs. Darby was preceded in death by her husband, G.M. Darby.

Survivors include a son, Richard Darby of Gainesville; and a sister, Alyce Thomas of Choschocton, Ohio.

Frankie L. Edmonds

OLD TOWN - Frankie Laverne Edmonds died Saturday at the Hospice House in Gainesville. She was 47.

Mrs. Edmonds was a member of Cross City Seventh-day Adventist Church.

She moved to Dixie County 32 years ago from Brunswick, Ga.

Survivors include her husband, Gary Edmonds of Old Town; sons, Travis Weaver of Old Town and Raymond Edmonds of Trenton; daughters, Hannah, Samantha and Amanda Edmonds, all of Old Town; her father, Frank Weaver of Old Town; a brother, Vernon Lewis of Brunswick, Ga.; sisters, Jean Shadron and Lilly Sanders, both of Brunswick, and Gladys Mobley of Yulee; and four grandchildren.

James A. Halliday

James Alexander Halliday died Dec. 19 at his home after an extended illness. He was 74.

Mr. Halliday was born in Inveruri, Scotland, and moved to Gainesville from Fort Lauderdale 21 years ago.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was a retired postal carrier.

He was a member of the Gainesville Elks Lodge 990 and a life member of the Bay Hill Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10137 in Bushnell. He was a Presbyterian.

Survivors include his wife, Ada Halliday; sons, Robert Franks of Gainesville and Dennis Franks of Stuart; a brother, Calvert Halliday of Daytona Beach; a sister, Frances Smith of Basking Ridge, N.J.; and two grandchildren.

Dorothy J. Lynn

Dorothy J. Lynn of Gainesville died Monday at Shands at AGH. She was 70.

Mrs. Lynn was a homemaker. She ran an answering service in Gainesville during the 1960s and '70s. She was a lifelong resident of Gainesville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.V. Lynn, and a son, Jackie Lavern Tanksley.

Survivors include sons, Thomas Jefferson Tanksley of Hawthorne, Johnny Francis Tanksley of Oregon, Richard Keith Tanksley and Sidney McRae Tanksley, both of Gainesville; a brother, John William Warren of Gainesville; a sister, Annie Pearl Drips of Ocala; two grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
