George C. Ney Sr.

CHIEFLAND - George C. Ney Sr. died Friday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 60.

Mr. Ney was born in Queens, N.Y., and moved to Chiefland from Cross City 14 years ago.

He was a business owner.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Thompson of Chiefland; daughters Martha Ney of Old Town, Sandra Ney of Bronson and Jennifer Thompson of Chiefland; sons Nicholas and George C. Ney Jr., both of Chiefland; a sister, Mary Ney of Central Islip, N.Y.; a brother, Henry Ney of Uniondale, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

Elaine A. Ryan

Elaine Anne Ryan of Gainesville died Sunday at Shands at the University of Florida. She was 60.

Mrs. Ryan was born in Island Falls, Maine, and moved to Gainesville from Oakland, Maine, 22 years ago.

She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include her husband, Edward L. Ryan Jr. of Gainesville; a sister, Marilyn Noyes of Island Falls; a brother, Auril Hartin of Oakland, Maine; two daughters; three sons; and 12 grandchildren.

Ethel M. Streid

OCKLAWAHA - Ethel M. Streid died Friday in Gainesville. She was 75.

Mrs. Streid was born in Burke County, N.C., and moved to Ocklawaha from Hollywood in 1963.

She was a retired bank manager.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Gaye Selig of Ocala; sons Larry Hoyle and Tony Bernasconi, both of Gainesville; a stepson, Richard B. Streid of Tehachapi, Calif.; a sister, Ellen Dienhart of Ocklawaha; a brother, Forest Brittain of Iron Station, N.C.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Norma W. Strickland

CHIEFLAND - Norma W. Strickland died Thursday at Tri-County Nursing Home in Fanning Springs. She was 80.

Mrs. Strickland was a lifelong resident of Levy County.

She was the retired owner of Treasure Fish Camp in Fowler Bluff and a member of Fowler Bluff Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a founding member and chairwoman of the Fowler Bluff Volunteer Fire Department.

Mrs. Strickland was preceded in death by her husband, Toby Strickland.

Survivors include a daughter, Enid Harrell of Chiefland; a son, Jimmie Strickland of Albany, Ga.; a sister, Cathren Dickerson of Bronson; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Robert Frederick Bretzlaff

OLD TOWN - Robert Frederick Bretzlaff died Thursday at his residence. He was 69.

Mr. Bretzlaff was born in Noblesville, Ind., and moved to Old Town from Orlando in 1998.

He was a truck driver.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Bretzlaff of Old Town; a son, Darrell Cockcoft of Orlando; daughters Jean Tittsworth of Clairmont, Gail Carrier of Old Town and Ann Graber of Montgomery, Ala; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

David Herrin Cowart

David Herrin Cowart of Gainesville died Wednesday in an automobile accident in Middleburg. He was 31.

Mr. Cowart was born in Valdosta, Ga. He lived in Gainesville at one time and then moved to Aspen, Colo. He had only recently returned to the Gainesville area to attend the University of Florida.

Survivors include his parents, David C. and Donna Stickley Cowart of Huntersville, N.C.; a sister, Lanie Constable of Huntersville, N.C.; and his maternal grandmother, Elaine Stickley of High Springs.

James Elijah Fulghum

Dr. James Elijah Fulghum of Jacksonville died Thursday at St. Vincent's Hospital in Jacksonville. He was 95.

Dr. Fulghum was chief of the Bureau of Adult Health and Chronic Diseases for the Florida State Health Department from 1959 to 1975.

He is survived locally by a daughter, Jane Hunter of Gainesville.

James Henry Lee

HIGH SPRINGS - James Henry Lee died Thursday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 70.

Mr. Lee was born in O'Brien and moved to High Springs from Hague in 1959.

He was a retired custodial supervisor with the University of Florida. He worked at the UF Dairy in Hague and the physical plant. He also worked at Copeland Sausage Co.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of High Springs.

He was preceded in death by a son, Aaron Lee.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Beulah Lee of High Springs; a daughter, Linda Douglas of Lake City; a son, Randy Lee of High Springs; a sister, Maudine Horton of High Springs; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Wallace Sullivan

MAYO - Wallace "Plug" Sullivan, a lifelong resident of Mayo, died Tuesday at his residence. He was 71.

Mr. Sullivan retired in 1986 as heavy-equipment operator with the Lafayette County Road Department. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Midway Baptist Church in Mayo.

He enjoyed rodeos and quail hunting.

Survivors include a sister, Ola Jackson of Mayo; and brothers Tom Sullivan of Starke and Aaron Sullivan of Moultrie, Ga.

Dennis Wayne Magyari

STARKE - Dennis Wayne Magyari, a lifelong resident of Starke, died Thursday at Shands at Starke. He was 37.

Mr. Magyari attended Bradford County High School. He was a stay-at-home-dad and had previously worked for the Department of Corrections.

Survivors include a daughter, Megan Jane Magyari of Starke; a son, Patrick Wayne Magyari of Starke; his parents Donald and Joan Magyari of Starke; his maternal grandparents, Ralph and Doris Odom of Glen St. Mary; and his paternal grandmother, Mable Magyari of Starke.

Marion K. Murphy

Marion K. Murphy of Gainesville died Friday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 92.

Mrs. Murphy was born in Fayetteville, Ga., and moved to Gainesville from Arlington, Va., in 1977.

She was a homemaker and a member of Grace Presbyterian Church. She was a volunteer for the Pink Lady's of Alachua General Hospital. Her interests include the culinary arts and religious music. She played the piano. She enjoyed gardening and horses.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rupert L. Murphy.

Survivors include a son, Rupert L. "Pete" Murphy II of Gainesville; and brothers Bill Kerlin of Jacksonville and Harold Kerlin of Peachtree City, Ga.

Larry McNair Russell

FANNING SPRINGS - Larry McNair Russell died Wednesday in Fanning Springs. He was 56.

Mr. Russell was born in Dillon, S.C., and moved to Fanning Springs from Bradenton a few years ago.

He was a mechanic for the city of Bradenton.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Russell of Fanning Springs; a daughter, Tammy Ruffing of Bradenton; a son, Larry Russell Jr. of Daytona Beach; sisters Mary Strickland-Summerfield, Janet Russell-Dillon and Betty Tedder-Dillon, all of South Carolina; and three grandchildren.
