Donald R. Audette

HIGH SPRINGS - Donald R. Audette died Thursday in Gainesville at Shands at UF. He was 58.

Mr. Audette was born in Essex Junction, Vt., and came here from Hollywood, Fla., 18 years ago. He was a carpenter.

Mr. Audette enjoyed hunting and fishing, movies, and spending time with his family.

He was a Catholic.

Survivors include daughters Shannon and Betty Audette of Gainesville; son Ashley Audette of High Springs; sisters Elaine Valenti and Lorraine Starck of Gold Canyon, Arizona, Lucille Kelley of Groton, Conn., and Jane Duhon of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and brothers Paul and Albert Audette of High Springs, Roger Audette of Winooski, Vt., and Leo Audette of Livermore, Colo.

Hiram Jordan Carmichle

STEINHATCHEE - Hiram Jordan Carmichle died Friday at his home. He was 65.

He served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years after enlisting during the Korean War. Mr. Carmichle was a resident park ranger at Manatee Springs State Park for three years, and he also worked as a carpenter and commercial fisherman.

He also did private investigative work in California and worked in the timber industry in Oregon.

Survivors include a son, David Jordan Carmichle of Steinhatchee; daughters Debbie Smymios of Steinhatchee, Tracy Tucker of Steinhatchee, Wendy Hart of Rock Bluff, Kelly Enfinger of Old Town, Leslie Carmichle of Steinhatchee and Tia Corbin of Old Town; brothers Lon McCall of Perry, Floyd Carmichael of Old Town and O'Neal Carmichael of Steinhatchee; sisters Frankie Williams and Becky Odom, both of Steinhatchee; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Ruth Parmele

Ruth Parmele died Friday at Integrated Health Services in Gainesville. She was 76.

Mrs. Parmele was a member of the First Cumberland Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Calvin A. Parmele.

Local survivors include a son, William C. Parmele of Gainesville.

Bobbie Booker Phillips

Bobbie Booker Phillips died Sunday in the Hospice House in Gainesville. She was 78.

Born in Bainbridge, Ga., Mrs. Phillips was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church.

She graduated from high school in High Springs in 1942 and attended Lake City Community College.

Her hobbies included needlepoint, bridge, traveling and reading. She was very active in community service organizations and worked for the Florida House of Representatives for 37 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, A. Jack Phillips.

Survivors include a daughter, Sunny Carol Phillips of Tallahassee.

Charlie Presley

ROCHELLE - Charlie Presley died Thursday at his home following a lengthy illness. He was 90.

A lifetime resident of Rochelle, Mr. Presley was a retired laborer, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Third Bethel Baptist Church.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews and his caregiver, Dr. Gladys Wright of Rochelle.

Pete Sapp

Pete Sapp of Gainesville died Friday at Shands at AGH. He was 72.

Mr. Sapp was a native of New River. A pioneer in the tree surgery business, he was owner and operator of Sapp's Tree Surgery. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and diving.

Survivors include his wife, Lizzia Sapp of Gainesville; daughters Tammy and April Sapp, both of Gainesville; sons Wesley and Michael Sapp, both of Gainesville; sisters Cozette Laslo of North Forestville, Md., and Novis Ward of Starke; brothers Dempsey Sapp of New River and Leslie Sapp of Palatka; and a grandchild.

Dorothy M. Batton

Dorothy M. Batton of Gainesville died Saturday at Shands at AGH. She was 80.

Mrs. Batton was born in Winters, Texas, and moved to Gainesville from Green Cove Springs in 1992.

She was a retired social worker and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Batton.

Survivors include sons Donnie McComas and Aubrey Batton Jr., both of Las Vegas, Fred Batton of Orlando, Teddy Batton of Norfolk, Va., John Batton of Ontario, Calif., and Bruce Batton of Milton; daughters Bonnie Stroud of San Antonio, Betty Denmark of Gainesville, Audrey Kline of Dublin, Ohio, and Eileen Tenley of Lewes, Del; brothers A.C. and Tommy Little, both of San Antonio; sisters Alma Stevens of Lawn, Texas, Edna Huckle and Maurine Perkins, both of San Antonio, and Faye Stine of Livingston, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Thomas E. Campbell

Thomas E. Campbell of Gainesville died Wednesday at the Hospice House of Gainesville. He was 71.

Mr. Campbell was born in Macon, Ga., and moved to Gainesville from Fort Lauderdale 23 years ago.

He was a senior customer engineer with IBM, retiring after 34 years. He was a Christian and attended Northwest Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn Leigh Campbell.

Survivors include his wife, Jean M. Campbell of Gainesville; a son, Thomas Mathis Campbell of Honolulu; and sisters Glenda Thompson of Belleview and Jacqueline Hunnicutt of Cumming, Ga.

Burnis H. Dalton

NEWBERRY - Burnis H. Dalton died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 83.

Mr. Dalton was born in Sycamore, Ga., and moved to Newberry in 1951.

He was a retired maintenance engineer at the University of Florida, where he worked for 13 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific theater. He was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of First Baptist Church of Newberry.

Survivors include his wife, Nora Lee King Dalton of Newberry; daughters Deanna Dalton Rowland of Newberry and Susan Dalton Merritt of Eustis; sons Bernard Dalton of Orlando and Larry Dalton of Newberry; a brother, Col. H.G. Dalton of Avon Park; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Robert Dwayne Gant

Robert Dwayne Gant of Gainesville died Wednesday at his residence. He was 38.

Mr. Gant was born and raised in Bartow and moved to Gainesville in 1972.

He was a treatment rehabilitation specialist for North Florida Evaluation Treatment Center. He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1981.

Survivors include his mother, Vondell Robinson Lespi of Archer; and a sister, Dene Brewer of Jonesville.

Jessie E. Jones

ALACHUA - Jessie E. Jones died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 51.

Mrs. Jones was born in Tifton, Ga., and moved to Alachua from Enigma, Ga., 42 years ago.

She was a bookkeeper and a manager. She attended Santa Fe Community College. She was a Baptist. She enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include her husband, Cliff Jones of Alachua; a daughter, Cherie Cable of Fort White; her parents, Henry and Genora McMillan of Gainesville; brothers David McMillan of Gainesville and Mickey McMillan of Hampton Lake; and a granddaughter.

Miriam R. Silbert

Miriam R. Silbert of Gainesville died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Rehabilitation and Specialty Care Center. She was 86.

Mrs. Silbert was born in New York City and moved to Gainesville from Boynton Beach in 1978.

She was an artist.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Bernard Silbert.

Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth McArthur; and two grandchildren.
