Daisy Lane Byrd

Daisy Lane Byrd of Gainesville died Monday at Shands at AGH following a lingering illness. She was 88.

Mrs. Byrd was a retired child care provider and a member of Johnson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Eddie Byrd of Gainesville; and a stepdaughter, Rutha Lee Wright of Micanopy.

Ocie M. Campbell

HAWTHORNE - Ocie M. Campbell, a lifelong resident of Hawthorne, died Sunday at Shands at AGH following a brief illness. She was 83.

Mrs. Campbell was a housekeeper and a member of Gil Gal Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughters Mary Council, Pherry Baker and Ocie Randall, all of Hawthorne, Norma Bradley, Ethel A. Marshall and Daisy Days, all of Gainesville; sisters Elsie Ballou and Mary Young, both of Hawthorne; 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and two great- great-grandchildren.

Edward Easley Sr.

TRENTON - Edward Holder Easley Sr. died Monday at Tri-County Nursing Home in Trenton. He was 96.

Mr. Easley was born in Bartow and moved to Trenton from Melrose in 1962.

He was a farmer and a member of the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ.

Survivors include a son, Edward H. Easley Jr. of Trenton; a grandchild and four great-grandchildren.

Victoria Finnuchio

NEWBERRY - Victoria Rinaldi Finnuchio died Tuesday at Shands at AGH following an extended illness. She was 79.

Mrs. Finnuchio was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and moved to Newberry from Deerfield Beach 10 years ago.

She owned and operated a restaurant. She was a Catholic.

Survivors include a daughter, AnnMarie Mehl of Newberry; a brother, Ernest Rinaldi of Pennsylvania; a sister, Gladys Spingola of Barnegat Light, N.J.; five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Nathan Penny

WILLISTON - Nathan "Frog" Penny, a lifelong resident of the Raleigh community of Williston, died Saturday at Nature Coast Hospital in Williston.

He was 62.

Mr. Penny was a logger and a trucker driver. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include a son, Chadwick Penny of Orlando; a daughter, Sharrika Penny of Gainesville; brothers Phillip Penny and Nathaniel Penny, both of Raleigh; and seven grandchildren.

Tina John

Tina Andrea Bryant John of Orlando died Saturday at Florida Hospital South in Orlando following a sudden illness. She was 27.

The Gainesville native moved to Orlando in 1995. She graduated from Eastside High School in 1992 and received a bachelor's degree in business management and information systems from the University of Central Florida. She was a computer programmer and a member of Zeta Phi Beta sorority. She was a Christian.

Survivors include her husband, C. Stephen John of Orlando; a son, Curtis Stephen John II of Orlando; her parents, Rosa Lee Howell Bryant and Willie D. Bryant Sr. of Gainesville; sisters Terri Bryant Hymes and D'Eitra Bryant, both of Gainesville, and Cheryl Bryant Smith of Goose Creek, S.C.; brothers Willie D. Bryant Jr. and Rudolph V. Bryant, both of Gainesville; and her maternal grandmother, Mae Eva Howell of Brooker.

Josie Mae Mitchell

Josie Mae Mitchell of Gainesville died Tuesday at Palm Garden following an extended illness. She was 81.

Mrs. Mitchell was born in Detroit and moved to Gainesville 75 years ago.

She graduated from Lincoln High School and the Florida Normal Institute of St. Augustine. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Florida A&M; in Tallahassee. She also attended Temple University and the Tuskegee Institute.

She was a retired school teacher and a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church, where she participated in the L.C. Gamble Missionary Society and the Chancel Choir.

She was member of Eta Phi Beta sorority, the Ebony Appreciation Committee, the National Education Association and the Powerful Elders.

Survivors include a niece, Barbara McKnight of Tampa; and caregivers, Irvin and Jill Lee of Williston.

Margaret Schackow

Margaret Schackow of Gainesville died Monday at her residence. She was 81.

Mrs. Schackow was born in Akron, Ohio, and moved to Gainesville from Sarasota 30 years ago.

She was homemaker, a cook and baker. She enjoyed traveling and water colors.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Carl Schackow; and a son, Carl Schackow Jr.

Survivors include sons Gerald, Robert, Richard and James Schackow, all of Gainesville; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Elmo Sylvester

HAWTHORNE - Elmo Sylvester, a lifelong resident of Hawthorne, died Saturday at Shands at the University of Florida. He was 81.

Mr. Sylvester was a retired farm laborer.

He is survived by a niece and caregiver, Annie M. Sylvester of Johnson.

Robert L. Ritchey

BRANFORD - Robert L. Ritchey died Monday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lake City.

He was 82.

Mr. Ritchey was born in Huey, Ill.

Mr. Ritchey moved to Branford from Clay City, Ill., in 1981.

He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran.

He was also a member of the American Legion Post 400 in Orlando.

He retired from Ritchey Salvage Co. in Clay City.

He was a member of San Juan Catholic Mission in Branford.

Survivors include his wife, Veronica Ritchey of Branford; daughters Kathy Barnes of High Springs, Sharon Fulford of Lake City, Bonnie Perry of Perry, Cheryl Clark of Ownesboro, Ky., and Pat Ryker, Donna Tucker, Terry Smith and Laurie Bates, all of Branford; sons Kenny Ritchey of Lake Butler, Gary Ritchey of Niles, Mich., Mike Ritchey of Evansville, Ind., and Joe, Jim and David Ritchey, all of Branford; a sister, Lillian Laws of Keysport, Ill.; a brother, Dale Ritchey of Carlyle, Ill.; 60 grandchildren, and 26 great- grandchildren.

Matthew Small

Matthew Small, a lifelong resident of the Fairbanks community of Gainesville, died Friday at Nature Coast Hospital in Williston.

He was 52.

Mr. Small was a retired security guard at Shands at AGH.

He was appointed a special registered deputy sheriff by the Alachua County Sheriff in 1981.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He attended St. John's A.M.E. Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Mays Small.

Survivors include a brother, Gideon Small of St. Petersburg; and his nieces and caretakers, Rutha Small Ellis and Mary Watson of Gainesville.

Annie Mae Ware

NEWBERRY - Annie Mae Ware died Friday at Hospice of North Central Florida.

She was 80.

The Micanopy native was a homemaker.

She was also a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church.

Survivors include daughters Bertha Lee Davis and Phillis Ware, both of Newberry; sons John Lee Ware and Nathaniel Ware, both of Newberry; sisters Hattie Mae McKelver of Virginia and Roxie Gaines of Winter Garden; 30 grandchildren, 81 great-grandchildren and 28 great-great-grandchildren.
