Pauline R. Dankwardt, 78, of OTOW

Pauline R. Dankwardt, of OTOW, died Saturday, April 19, 2003, at Palm Garden of Ocala. A native of Ocean Grove, Mass., she was an Ocala resident, formerly of Sebring, Fla. She was 78.

Mrs. Dankwardt was a homemaker and of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include her husband, Paul; daughters, Paulette (Bruce) Fritz of Kohler, Wis., Paula (Gary) Reschke of Abrams, Wis., and Carol (Dana) Sondrini of Dahlgen, Va.; two sons, Kenneth (Tobin) Dankwardt of Winston Salem, N.C., and Kevin (Debra) Dankwardt of Dripping Springs, Texas; two sisters, Doris Goulart of Fort Lauderdale and Marcel Dionne of Summerset, Mass.; 23 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, TimberRidge Chapel, handled the arrangements.

Carl H. Francis, 77, of Oak Run

Carl H. Francis, of Oak Run, died Friday, April 18, 2003, at Munroe Regional Medical Center. A native of Philadelphia, he came here in 1992 from Monaca, Pa. He was 77.

Mr. Francis was a retired computer installation manager for Williams and Co. He was a member of the West Ocala United Methodist Church and past master of Temple Lodge 11, F&AM;, Consistory of Newcastle, Syria Shrine Temple, was past president of the Arab Patrol and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Ocala Shrine Club. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Joanne H.; two daughters, Nancy Erwin of Pennsylvania and Ginger Unrue of Indiana, Pa.; sister, Barbara Lindsey of Easton, Md., and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Francis.

Roberts Funeral Home, Bruce Chapel West, Ocala, furnished the information.

Fitz H. Hoyte, 81, of Marion Oaks

Fitz "Herbie" Herbert Hoyte, of Marion Oaks, died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at Life Care Center of Ocala. A native of Barbados, he moved here in 1989 from Brooklyn, N.Y. He was 81.

Mr. Hoyte was a retired housekeeper for Metropolitan Hospital, New York City. He was a member of Hebron Evangelical Church of Marion Oaks and Marion Oaks Crime Watch. He served in the British Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Myrtle Hoyte of Ocala; son, Lennox H. Hoyte of Ocala; daughters, Joan Parris of Brooklyn, N.Y., Olga Charles of Ocala and Diana Webster of London; brother, Whitfield Hoyte of Brooklyn; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.

Roberts Funeral Home, Bruce Chapel West Ocala, provided the information.

Walter Kollar, 82, of OTOW

Walter Kollar, of OTOW, died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at his residence in Ocala. A native of Czechoslovakia, he has resided in the Ocala area since 1989, formerly of District Heights, Md. He was 82.

Mr. Kollar was a retired salesman in the remodeling industry. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Ocala. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Hilde; two sons, Robert W. Kollar of Edgewood, Md., and Martin A. Kollar of Savage, Md.; sister, Dorothea Homola of Flushing, N.Y.; two grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Marion County, P.O. Box 1860, Ocala, Fla. 34478.

Joseph N. Cook, 82, of Ocala

Joseph Norman Cook, of Ocala, died Thursday, April 17, 2003, at Ocala Regional Medical Center. Born in Stratfield Saye, England on Dec. 1, 1920, he was the son of the late William Arthur and Mary Elizabeth (Stacey) Cook. He was married on Oct. 27, 1972 in Miami to the former Linda G. Barkley. He came to this area in 1981 from Miami. He was 82.

Mr. Cook was an employee of Publix. He retired in 1996 as nursing assistant having worked 28 years for the Veterans Administration Hospitals in Miami and Gainesville. He was a World War II veteran serving with the Royal Canadian Army. He was a Korean War veteran serving with the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints in Ocala.

Survivors include his wife of over 30 years, Linda G. Cook of Ocala and one sister, Dorothy Hamer of Canada.

Arrangements entrusted to Memorial Chapels Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Hernando.

Thomas P. Cannon Jr., 76

Thomas P. Cannon Jr., 76, of Ocala, died Thursday, May 22, 2003, in Ocala. A native of Red Level, he was a lifetime resident.

Mr. Cannon was a cattleman and rancher.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Cannon of Ocala; three sons, Hilton Cannon of Inglis, Perry Cannon and Thomas Cannon, both of Dunnellon; daughter, Sarah Wade of Inglis; two stepdaughters, Becky Baird of Ocala and Lori Blough of Casselberry; 13 grandchildren and six greast grandchildren.

Virginia H. Chesterfield, 86

Virginia Hay "Diddy" Chesterfield, 86, of Hollywood, died Tuesday, May 20, 2003, in Romana, Calif. A native of Terre Haute, Ind., and a long time resident of Dunnellon, she came here in 1949 from Inverness.

Mrs. Chesterfield was a homemaker. She was of the Episcopal faith.

Survivors include three sons, Sonny Chesterfield of Dunnellon, Butch Chesterfield of Romona, Calif., and Kenny Chesterfield of Gainesville; a sister, Peggy McGinnes of Zephyrhills; 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Memorial services for Mrs. Chesterfield will be held on Friday, May 30, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Dunnellon Memorial Gardens with Rev. Ira Nichols conducting the services. Burial will be in Dunnellon Memorial Gardens under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Dunnellon.

Charles F. Delzell, 66

Charles F. Delzell, 66, of Dunnellon, died Friday, May 23, 2003, in Ocala. The son of the late Charles Homer and Sarah Lee (Forrest) Delzell, was born in Enid, Okla., and came here in January of 2003 from Hinsdale, Ill.

Mr. Delzell was a retired manager for several manufacturing companies, including Johnson & Johnson and Continental Coffee. He was a member of Union Church, Hinsdale, Ill. As a youth he attained Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow. He was an avid golfer and member of Rainbow Springs Country Club, Dunnellon. Mr. Delzell was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. and during his military stay he lived in Hawaii and later enjoyed vacationing there. In the 1970s he was a school board member during construction of Hinsdale Junior High past president of PTA for Madison School, Hinsdale, Ill.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Marilyn C. Delzell, Dunnellon, whom he met while attending college at University of Colorado, Boulder, Colo.; two daughters and their husbands, Caroline and David Guess of Aurora, Ill., Diane and David Avers of Naperville, Ill.; brothers, David Delzell of Denver, Colo.; four grandchildren, Michael and Christy Guess and Derrick and Ryan Avers.

Barbara S. Giles, 47

Barbara Sue Giles, 47, of Hernando, died Monday, May 12, 2003, in Inverness. A native of Oberlin, Ohio, she came here in 1974 from Swanton, Ohio.

Mrs. Giles was head cashier for Harbor Freight and Tool USA, Inc. She was a member of the Dunnellon Moose Lodge.

Survivors include her husband, Robert L.; mother, Mamie Roberts of Hernando; father, James K. Stevens of Wellington, Ohio; stepson, Robert Giles III of Chesapeake, Va.; two sisters, Patricia Ann Gruntkowski of Elyria, Ohio, and Lana Rae Baker of Kansas.

Ralph W. Haren, 81

Ralph William Haren, 81, of Dunnellon, died Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lake City. A native of Epworth, Ga., he was born on Feb. 4, 1922 to John Haren and Nora (Stepp) Haren. He married the former Thelma V. Goodyear in Miami on Nov. 25, 1953. He moved to Dunnellon in 1996 from Miami, where he had lived for 50 years.

Mr. Haren was a retired electrician. He was a 55-year member of Local 349 Electricians Union of Miami and a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Dunnellon. He was also a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, serving as coxswain from 1942 to 1945 and a member of the American Legion Post 58 in Dunnellon.

In addition to his wife of nearly 50 years, Thelma of Dunnellon, he is survived by a son, Timothy Michael Haren of Miami; brothers, Ray and Earl Haren, both of Georgia; sisters, Katherine Hunt of Epworth, Ga., Elizabeth Marshall and Virginia Phillips, both of Fayetteville, Ga.; and one grandson, Ryan Haren of Dunnellon.

He was preceded in death by a son, the late Gary Haren, in 1999.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on May 24 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Dunnellon, with Fr. Joseph Pinchock, celebrant. Interment followed at Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens in Ocala with military honors rendered by American Legion Post 58 of Dunnellon.

Betty N. Lockwood, 78

Betty N. Lockwood, 78, of Dunnellon, died Tuesday, May 20, 2003, in Gainesville. A native of Sheffield, England, she came here in 1983 from W. Newbury, Mass.

Ms. Lockwood was a business owner of the Suburban Press.

Survivors include a granddaughter, Kathleen L. Rodrique of Gainesville and a niece, Margaret Sullivan of Cape Coral.

Kenneth J. Tilton, 83

Kenneth John Tilton, 83, of Dunnellon, died Monday, May 19, 2003, in Crystal River. A native of Haverhill, Mass., he came here in 1983 from New Hampshire.

Mr. Tilton was a dining hall director. He was a member of the Charles C. Dame Lodge F & AM in Georgetown, Mass., and the American Legion Post #67 in Newmarket, N.H. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Carrie; son, Wayne Tilton of Newmarket, N.H.; daughter, Leah Davis of Dunnellon; brother, Richard Tilton of Glen, N.H.; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Edward M. Urnowey, 90

Edward M. Urnowey, 90, of Largo, died Saturday, May 24, 2003, in Ocala. A native of Chicago, Ill., he came here in 1980 from Marion, Ind.

Mr. Urnowey was an auto salesman. He was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Largo, a life member of Knights of Columbus, life member of Elks, and member of the American Legion.

Survivors include a son, Steve Urnowey of Ocala; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
