Thomas Bovee, 52 Citrus Springs

Thomas M. Bovee, 52, Citrus Springs, died Saturday, July 19, 2003, in Gainesville.

He was born Feb. 10, 1951, in Lansing, Mich., to Miron Bovee and Laura D. May. He came here seven months ago from Rutherfordton, N.C.

Mr. Bovee was a truck driver.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Thomas Bovee, in 1975.

Survivors include five sons, Jason Bovee of Citrus Springs, Darin Bovee of Rutherfordton, N.C., Jonathan Bovee of Citrus Springs, Timothy Bovee and Joel Bovee, both of Center Ossipee, N.H.; his mother, Laura D. May of Venice; one brother, Gerald Bovee of Sarasota; three sisters, Laura Justice of Venice, Kathy Abood of Lexington, Mich., and Janette Sheets of North Port; and five grandchildren.

Anne Brantley, 58 Ocala

Anne J. Brantley, 58, Ocala, died Sunday, July 20, 2003, at Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala.

A native of Detroit, Mich., she had resided in the Ocala area since 2000, formerly of Citrus County and California.

Mrs. Brantley was a customer service representative with Cingular Wire-less Communi-cations.

She was a member of Stewart in the Union with Cingular Wireless Company and was past president of West Coast National Swimming Pool & Spa Institute.

She was Catholic.

Survivors include her husband, Loyd Brantley of Ocala; daughter, Natalie Krause of Hernando; son, Christopher Brantley of Homosassa; sister, Julie Groves of Fontana, Calif.; brothers, Lloyd Boothe of Pinellas Park and Fred Boothe of Tampa; four grandchildren; and two step-granddaughters.

Helen Culgin, 93 Inverness

Helen Hall Morpeth Culgin, 93, Inverness, died Monday, July 21, 2003, at Mariner Health Care of Inverness.

Born March 16, 1910, in East Providence, R.I., to Mabel Cornell Hall and William H. Hall, Mrs. Culgin came here in 1999 from Rhode Island, where she resided for 89 years.

She had been a member of the Barrington Congregational Church in Rhode Island, the Women's Guild, and devoted much time to the children's unit at Rhode Island Hospital.

She was interested in primitive art, Rhode Island history and its antiquities.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Harold L. Morpeth Sr. (1967) and Raymond Culgin (1977).

Survivors include a son, Harold L. Morpeth Jr. of Saunderstown, R.I.; a daughter, Jan K. Hall of Lake Elmore, Vt., and Floral City; a brother, Robert P. Hall of Floral City; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She also leaves many friends in Rhode Island, Vermont and Florida.

Gordon Fowler, 77 Crystal River

Gordon C. Fowler, 77, Crystal River, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, in Crystal River.

Mr. Fowler was born in Bradford, Vt., and came here 18 years ago from Chicago, Ill.

He was a retired purchasing director for Greyhound Bus Lines and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Fowler of Crystal River; son, Gordon Fowler (Ellen) of Lake City; daughter, Gayle Butler (Bernie) of Hinsdale, N.H.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Catherine Hart, 96 Lecanto

Catherine H. Hart, 96, Lecanto, died Monday, July 21, 2003, at the Citrus Health & Rehabilitation Center in Inverness.

Born May 12, 1907, in Chicago, Ill., to Otto and Mary (Laracey) Haavind, she came here in 1978 from Trempealeau, Wis.

Mrs. Hart retired from the Edgerton, Wis., school system as a secretary to the superintendent of schools.

She was Protestant.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Duelle F. Hart, on Dec. 24, 1987.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews including, Robert Haavind of Boston, Mass., Jerry Haavind of Wisconsin, Norman Haavind of Colorado and Pamela Reynolds of Richmond, Va.; one great- niece; and her friend, Leona Diederick of Floral City.

David 'Monte' Johns Sr., 68 Lecanto

David "Monte" Johns Sr., 68, Lecanto, died Monday, July 21, 2003, in Lecanto.

He was born April 1, 1935, in Anclote to Jeffrey and Sarah (Mansfield) Johns and came here 13 years ago from New Port Richey.

Mr. Johns retired from law enforcement in Pinellas and Pasco counties and was a U.S. Army Reserves veteran.

He was a member of Gulf to Lake Baptist Church in Crystal River.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Johns of Lecanto; one son, David Monte Johns Jr. of Tarpon Springs; two stepsons, James Sweeny (Cindy) of Wesley Chapel and David Sweeny (Colette) of Fort Lauderdale; two daughters, Susan Benedict (Buddy) of Lecanto and Vicki Whitesel (Fred) of New Port Richey; his mother, Sarah Garrick of Lecanto; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

John Vollmer, 86 Hernando

John Martin Vollmer, 86, Hernando, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at his home.

Born Aug. 3, 1916, in Erie, Pa., to John and Carrie (Weltz) Vollmer, he came here in 1990.

Mr. Vollmer retired from the American Sterilizer Company in Erie, Pa., as a machinist with more than 20 years of service.

Survivors include a son, Brian Vollmer of Erie, Pa.; a daughter, Sandra Brown of Erie, Pa.; and a stepdaughter, Diane Mattern of Floral City.

Jerry Wright, 46 Floral City

Jerry Lee Wright, 46, Floral City, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, in Inverness.

Born Nov. 15, 1956, in Hayes, Kan., to Willis Wright and Joyce Cox, Mr. Wright came here in 1974 from Atlanta, Ga.

He was a knife salesman.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia "Marlene" Wright of Floral City; three stepsons, Robert Cunningham of Summerfield, Trever Cunningham of Lexington, Ky., and Michael Cunningham of Belleview; one daughter, Janis Kinsey of Clarksville, Tenn.; two stepdaughters, Mary Harpes of Leesburg and Patricia Cunningham of Floral City; his mother, Joyce Cox of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Deborah Garner of Atlanta, Ga.; and 10 grandchildren.

William McMullin Jr., 77

William John McMullin Jr., 77 died suddenly at home in Yankeetown on Friday, July 25, 2003. He was born in Westfield, Mass., the son of William Sr. and Viola McMullin. He grew up in Southwick, Mass., and lived there most of his life.

Mr. McMullin was a self-employed farmer in Suthwick for many years raising vegetables and tobacco and later worked for Roncari Construction of Windsor Locks, Conn. He owned his own cement business prior to moving to Florida. Upon retirement, he was an avid fisherman and was active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II abroad the aircraft carrier USS Hancock.

His second wife, Frances (Tomasetti) McMullin; two brothers, Robert McMullin of Southwick, Mass., and Richard McMullin of Florida; and one sister, Elizabeth Bew of California, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his son, Craig W. McMullin and his wife, Theresa of Edgefield, S.C.; one stepson; one daughter, Diane C. Reid of Chatham, Mass.; sisters, Patricia Schmidt of Southwick, Mass., and Alice McMullin of Agawam, Mass.; close friend, Mary Kennedy of Florida; six grandchildren; one step-grandson; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Gordon C. Fowler, 77

Gordon C. Fowler, 77, of Crystal River, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, in Crystal River. A native of Bradford, Vt., he came here 18 years ago from Chicago, Ill.
