Arvil Dean, 82 Homosassa

Arvil T. Dean, 82, Homosassa, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003.

Born June 19, 1921, in Branchland, W.Va., to Henry and Ella Dean, he came here in 1996.

He was a coal miner.

He was Baptist.

Mr. Dean was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Dean, on March 13, 1995.

Survivors include four sons, Larry Dean, Arvil Curtis Dean, and Randy Dean, all of Branchland, W.Va., and Arthur Thomas Dean of Smyra, Tenn.; seven daughters, Linda Marcum, Regina Pierce and Sandra Crosby, all of Columbus, Ohio, Rozella Epperson of Huntington, W.Va., Judy Marcum of Wayne, W.Va., Tonya Estep of Jupiter, and Roberta Grimmette of Homosassa; three brothers, Burl, Sebren and Darrell; three sisters, Martha, Mary Ruth and Helen Mae; 28 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Michael De Hauski, 87 Homosassa

Michael T. De Hauski, 87, Homosassa, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, in Inverness.

A native of Stanhope, N.J., he was born May 11, 1916, to Thomas and Mary (Grezci) De Hauski. He came here from Bergen County, N.J., in 1988.

He was a retired owner and operator of Michael's Window Cleaning Service, Fair Lawn, N.J.

Mr. De Hauski was an avid Braves baseball fan. He was a former Little League coach.

He loved hunting and fishing. He spent many vacations in Canada.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna De Hauski in 1997; and son Kenneth De Hauski in 1997.

Survivors include son, Robert M. De Hauski of Homosassa; brother Thomas De Hauski of Chicago, Ill.; sister Evelyn Baffey of Connecticut; and one granddaughter.

Alta Greene, 83 Springhill

Alta Irene Greene, 83, Springhill, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at home under the care of her family and hospice.

A native of Ceres, Pa., she was born Aug. 29, 1920, to George and Fern Church Harmon. She came here in 1992 from Oswego, N.Y.

She was a homemaker and member of the Northcliffe Baptist Church of Springhill.

Mrs. Greene was preceded in death by her husband Clark W. Greene on July 12, 1992.

Survivors include two sons, Wayland L. Greene of Charlotte, N.C., William Greene of Bolivar, N.Y.; daughter Winona I. Cummings of Springhill; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Jeane Guido, 71, Inverness

Jeane Marie Stark Guido, 71, Inverness, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at her home under the care of her family and hospice.

A native of Whitehall, N.Y., she was born May 9, 1932, to Walter and Jeannette (Curtis) Starks. She came here in 1986 from Orlando where she lived for 21 years.

She was an accomplished seamstress and interior designer who owned her own business.

She loved being a homemaker and cooking Italian meals.

Mrs. Guido was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, David J. Guido; her stepfather, Francis "Buster" Watts; and her grandparents, Arnold and Laura Bromley, and Lawrence and Carrie Stark.

Survivors include three sons, Michael D. (Donna) Guido of Santa Ana, Calif., James M. Guido of Orange City, and Mark C. Guido of Inverness; daughter Anna Sue Guido of Inverness; brother Howard Watts of Colchester, Vt.; sister Shirley Bombard of St. Albans, Vt.; nieces; nephews; many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Robert Hadley, 77 Inverness

Robert F. Hadley, 77, Inverness, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at Citrus Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Hadley was born March 5, 1926, in Richmond Hill, N.Y., to Clifford and Irma Hadley. He came here from Gulfport in 1967.

He was a developer of Riverhaven Marina in Homosassa, and several other marinas throughout the state.

He was in the boating industry for 50 years.

He was a member of the Lions Club of Inverness and a Charter Member of the Homosassa Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife, Marguerite Hadley of Inverness; two sons, Cliff (Marshi) Hadley of Lecanto, and Mark Hadley of Melbourne; stepson John (Tina) Lawler of Inverness; and five grandchildren.

Earl Hawkins, 74 Inverness

Earl Howard Hawkins, 74, Inverness, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness.

Born in Buffalo, N.Y., on Sept. 6, 1928, to Earl F. and Louise (Dobmier) Hawkins, he came here 20 years ago from Indonesia.

Mr. Hawkins retired from the Mobil Oil company as a shift supervisor with 35 years of service.

He served in the United States Marine Corps after World War II.

He was a member of the Crystal River American Legion Post 155, the 2nd Marine Corps Division Association and the Exxon-Mobil Annuity Club.

He was Protestant.

He was preceded in death by his son, Paul F. Hawkins on April 26, 1993.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Carol K. (Dober) Hawkins; and brother, Harry E. Hawkins of Wildwood.

Roxie C. Long, 92 Lecanto

Roxie C. Long, 92, Lecanto, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003.

She was born Nov. 10, 1910, in Mangum, Okla., to John and Molly McKibbon. She came here from St. Petersburg in 1984.

She was a homemaker.

She was Baptist.

Mrs. Long was preceded in death by brothers and sisters.

Survivors include husband Charles W. Long of Lecanto; son Doyle (Judith) Long of Lecanto; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Lynn Smith, 49 Floral City

Lynn D. Smith, 49, Floral City, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at Citrus Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Smith was born Aug. 29, 1954, in Springville, N.Y. to Lloyd and Dorothy Smith.

He was a salesman at Olan Mills in Winter Haven.

Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Smith of Floral City; brother Gary Smith of Springville, N.Y.; three sisters, Sandy Smith, Kathy Key and Laurie Parrott, all of Inverness; and several nieces and nephews.
