Ruth M. Budrick, 71, Homemaker

Ruth M. Budrick, 71, of Wildwood, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, in Leesburg. A native of Stoughton, Mass., she moved here in 1988 from there. Mrs. Budrick was a homemaker and nursery school teacher's aide. She was a member of the Wildwood United Methodist Church, Martha's Circle, and Arts and Crafts Club in Parkwood Oaks. Survivors include her husband Al; sons, Alan Budrick of Taunton, Mass., Bruce Budrick of Lincoln, Calif.; daughters, Linda Costello of Scottsdale, Ariz., Brenda Neagle of Raynham, Mass., Alison Budrick of Pompano Beach; brother, Bob (Mimi) Cohenno; and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held Oct. 4 at Wildwood United Methodist Church with Rev. Harry Holloman officiating. Burial was at Knollwood Cemetery, Canton, Mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association. Banks/Page-Theus Funeral Home, Wildwood.

Thomas Kerce, 69, Traffic manager

Thomas (Tommy) Kerce, 69, of Lake Panasoffkee, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, in Leesburg. A native of Gainesville, he was a resident of Lake Panasoffkee, formerly of Tampa. Mr. Kerce was a traffic manager for Central and Smalley Trucklines. He was a Navy veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was Baptist. Survivors include his wife, Anne; two daughters, Debbie Eller of Niceville, Fla. and Sherry O'Donnell of Tampa; four grandchildren, Thomas "T.J." Eller, Mark Clements, Tiffanie Harrelson and Christopher O'Donnell; one great grandchild, Rileigh Anne Harrelson and Bryant Thomas Eller, who is due on Tommy's birthday; two sisters, Mary Sue Hurst of Winter Haven and Rubina McLeod of Keystone Heights, Fla. Services were held Oct. 6 at Purcell Funeral Home Chapel, Bushnell, with Chaplain Larry Stephens officiating. Interment at Florida National Cemetery with military honors rendered by Marine Corps League 708. Purcell Funeral Home, Bushnell, handled the arrangements.

Bernard Moerdyk, 76, Career Naval Officer

Bernard "Bernie" Moerdyk, 76, of Grand Rapids, Mich., formerly of Bushnell, died on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, in Grand Rapids, Mich. He was a career Naval officer serving in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. In retirement he acted as the Post Commander for several years in the American Legion, Bushnell, and he volunteered as the Chaplain at the Florida National Cemetery organizing military honors for many of the veterans buried there. Survivors include a son, Steven (Judy) Moerdyk of Byron Center, Mich.; three grandchildren, Jennifer (John) Thayer of Lafayette, Ind., Rachel and Steven Moerdyk of Byron Center, Mich.; two great grandchildren, Austin and Ashlyn Thayer; three brothers, Fred Lewis, Bill (Jeannie) Lewis and Jack Lewis; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lula "Lu" Moerdyk; daughter, Dianna Moerdyk; daughter-in-law, Jackie Moerdyk and sister, Nancy Spriggs. Services were held Oct. 6 at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, with Military Honors rendered by Marine Corps League 708. Interment at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. Purcell Funeral Home, Bushnell, handled the arrangements.

Rebecca S. Hurlbert, 71

Rebecca Sharpe Hurlbert, 71, of Titusville, died

Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at home. She was born in Bushnell and came to Brevard County in 1954 from Gainesville. Mrs. Hurlbert was a member of First United Methodist Church of Titusville. Survivors include her son, Larry Sease Sr. of Titusville; daughters, Sherri Miller of Melbourne and Wanda Brownson of Dacula, Ga.; step-daughter, Pamela Sachs of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren; brothers, Hervey Sharpe of Hendersonville, N.C., William Sharpe of Tallahassee; sisters, Hazel Binger of Crossville, Tenn., and Eloise Cassady of Deland, Fla. She was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Swain of Bushnell. Services were held Saturday, Sept. 27, at First United Methodist Church of Titusville. Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens of Titusville. North Brevard Funeral Home in Titusville handled the arrangements.

Dollie Workman, 53, Corrections officer

Dollie Workman, 53, of Bushnell, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, in Bushnell. A native of West Virginia, she moved to Sumter County in 1987, formerly of Tampa. Ms. Workman was a corrections officer. She was Pentacostal. Survivors include her mother, Julia Gay Preast; three -brothers, Glen Workman, Arnold Crouse and Raymond Crouse; six sisters, Iris Mendez, Rebecca Preast, Helen Salinas, Cheryl Lennox, Melissa Mendez, Rebecca Reed; many nieces and nephews. Purcell Funeral Home, Bushnell, handled the arrangements.

Roxalana M. Baldo, 68, Homemaker

Roxalana M. Baldo, 68, of Bushnell, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, in Webster. A native of Jacksonville, she was a resident of Sumter County since 1984, formerly of Franklinville, N.Y. Mrs. Baldo was a homemaker. She was of the Episcopal faith. Survivors include a brother, Clarence C. Chappell of Buffalo, N.Y.; stepfather, Eugene Jurkowski of Franklinville, N.Y.; and a half brother, Charles W. Beckwith of New York. Services were held Oct. 17 at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, conducted by the American Legion Unit 101 Auxiliary. Interment at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. Purcell Funeral Home, Bushnell, handled the arrangements.

Walter H. Bedgood, 78, Manager

Walter H. Bedgood, 78, of Ocala, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, in Ocala. A native of Mt. Vernon, Ga., he moved here in 1960 from Clearwater. Mr. Bedgood was a retired Merchant Marine Steward and local food service manager. He attended school in Webster and lived in Central Florida over 70 years of his life. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Oakcrest Baptist Church in Ocala and the VFW Post 209, Ocala. Survivors include his wife, Audrey C.; three sons, Richard Bedgood and Ronald Bedgood, both of Ocala, and Raymond Bedgood of Tampa; daughter, Annette Quinn of Ocala; brother, Dan Bedgood of Crystal River; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Purcell Funeral Home Chapel, Bushnell. Services will be held Friday, Oct. 24, 11:30 a.m. at the Purcell Funeral Home Chapel, Bushnell, with the Rev. William Terrell officiating. Interment at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. Purcell Funeral Home, Bushnell, handled the arrangements.

Chad A. Bernard, 30, Concrete worker

Chad Alan Bernard, 30, of Bushnell, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, in Bushnell. A native of Buffalo, N.Y., he moved to Sumter County in 1992, formerly of Pinellas Park. Mr. Bernard was a concrete worker in the construction industry. He was Roman Catholic. Survivors include two sons, Dylan and Brandon Bernard, both of Bushnell; stepson, Justin Hill of Bushnell; brother, Shane Bernard of Fenton, Mo.; father, Mark Bernard of Buffalo, N.Y.; mother, Christine Bernard of Depew, N.Y.; and maternal grandmother, Lottie Sobieski of Elma, N.Y. Purcell Funeral Home, Bushnell, handled the arrangements.

Anthony J. Caprio, 79, Security guard

Anthony J. Caprio, 79, of Wildwood, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, in Leesburg. A native of Hoboken, N.J., he moved here in 1987 from Jersey City, N.J. Mr. Caprio was a retired truck driver and worked as a security guard in Continental Country Club for the past 17 years. He was Catholic and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include a son, Jerry of Wildwood and a sister, Anna Berganaski of Jersey City, N.J. Banks/Page-Theus Funeral Home, Wildwood, handled the arrangements.

Leslie A. Ferris, 77, Beauty shop

Leslie A. Ferris, 77, of DeFuniak Springs, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, in a Fort Walton Beach hospital. She was born Dec. 17, 1925 in Center Hill, the daughter of Walter and Stella Eigenraugh Archibald. Mrs. Ferris was a charter member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Post 98 of Euchee Valley. She was the first commander of the Revised District #1 of DAV. She was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, secretary of the Vacation Bible School and church treasurer for many years. She was also a member of Chautauqua Cyber Club where she was membership chairperson. Many will remember Leslie in her long-time employment with Burlie's Beauty Shop. She had a deep and abiding faith in the Lord God and possessed a youthful exuberance for life. She was preceded in death by her husband, TSG Retired Air Force James N. Ferris; her son, James N. Ferris and two brothers-in-law: Charles W. Ferris and Aulock W. Anlund. Survivors include her daughter, Mariea Creamer of DeFuniak Springs; granddaughter, Robin Langford and husband Davis, and her sister-in-law, Helen Anlund, all of DeFuniak Springs. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mrs. Ferris' memory to Calvary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 603, DeFuniak Springs, 32435 or DAV, P.O. Box 821, DeFuniak Springs 32435, or American Liver Foundation (Hepatitis). Funeral services were held Oct. 18 in the Jerry Evans Chapel with Reverend Bill Stephens officiating. Burial was in Barrancas National Cemetery with Jerry Evans of DeFuniak Springs entrusted with arrangements.

Ronald L. Fetterhoff, 61, Intelligence officer

Ronald Lee Fetterhoff, 61, of Ormond Beach, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, in Ormond Beach. A native of Steuben, Mich., he moved to Ormond Beach in 2001 from the Orlando area. Mr. Fetterhoff was an intelligence officer. He was a Marine veteran and Baptist. Survivors include a son, Daryl Fetterhoff of Orlando; daughter, Dara Blackwell of Oviedo; brother, Jeff Fetterhoff of Negaunee, Mich.; sister, Sue Mannckko of Negaunee, Mich.; and one grandchild. Services were held Oct. 20 at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, with military honors rendered by Marine Corps League #708. Interment at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. Purcell Funeral Home, Bushnell, handled the arrangements.

Debbie Henderson, 46, Cook

Debbie Henderson, 46, of Webster, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, in Clermont. A native of Bushnell, she was a lifetime resident of Sumter County. Mrs. Henderson was a cook with the Sumter County School System. She was a member of the Linden Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband "Tim" Earl Henderson of Webster; two sons, Russ Henderson Jr. and Michael Henderson, both of Webster; three brothers, C.H. Bedgood of Bushnell, Joseph Bedgood of Webster, Larry Bedgood of Center Hill; three sisters, Delilah Head of Tarrytown, Fla., Charlotte Berringer of Fruitland Park and Judy Garcia of Linden. Services will be held Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003 at 2:30 p.m. at Linden Baptist Church, Linden, with Reverend Eric Anderson officiating. Interment at Linden Cemetery, Linden. Purcell Funeral Home, Bushnell, handled the arrangements.

Jeanette V. Murphy, 76, Homemaker

Jeanette "Jeanie" V. Murphy, 76, of Wildwood, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, in Wildwood. A native of Almo, Ga., she moved here in 1965 from Tampa. Mrs. Murphy was a homemaker and Baptist. Survivors include her husband Eddie; sons, Charles Dale Odom, Leroy Odom of Athen, Texas, Tony Garcia of Denver, Colo., Jammie Murphy of N.C., Tommy Murphy of Wildwood; daughters, Luana Johnson of Wildwood; brother, George Coleman of Lithia, Fla.; sisters, Audrey Long of Bartow, Jackie Chandler of Lithia; 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Graveside services were held Oct. 22 at Pine Level Cemetery, Oxford, with Rev. Henry Rowell officiating. Banks/Page-Theus Funeral Home, Wildwood, handled the arrangements.

Donnie Newsome, 45, Maintenance worker

Donnie Newsome, 45, of Webster, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, in Webster. He was born in Dade City and lived most of his life in Sumter County. Mr. Newsome was a maintenance worker. He was an Army veteran and of the Protestant faith. Survivors include his wife, Darby Etheredge-Newsome of Bushnell; children, Bryan, Loyal, Billy Jack and Rose; mother, Eileen Lamb of Trilby, Fla.; and brother, David Newsome of Webster.

Purcell Funeral Home, Bushnell, handled the arrangements.

Jerry Blakeslee, 49 Crystal River

Jerry R. Blakeslee, 49, Crystal River, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at Brentwood Health Care Center in Lecanto.

Born April 24, 1954, in North East, Pa., to Lester and Mae Blakeslee, he moved here in 1986 from Erie, Pa.

Mr. Blakeslee was a driver for Tile Contractors Supply Company in Lecanto.

Survivors include his daughter, Geri A. Blakeslee of Crystal River; two sons, Ryan W. Blakeslee and Josh T. Blakeslee both of Beverly Hills; a brother, Jeffery Blakeslee of Erie, Pa.; a sister, Leslie Ann Blakeslee of Erie, Pa.; and three grandchildren.

Edward Bradley, 81 Dunnellon

Edward Francis Bradley, 81, Dunnellon, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, in Crystal River.

He was born in Cambridge, Mass., and he moved here in 1981 from Bedford, Mass.

Mr. Bradley was a retired repairman for New England Telephone & Telegraph and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Rainbow Springs Men's Golf Association.

Survivors include his wife, Blanche Bradley of Dunnellon; two sons, Edward Joseph Bradley of Bedford, Mass., and Robert Michael Bradley of Marston Mills, Mass.; two daughters, Barbara Jean Vitallo of Dracut, Mass., and Beverly Bradley Capelin of Durango, Colo.; three sisters, Helen Nartowt of Stuart, Edna Bradley of Quincy, Mass., and Marjorie Hughes of Concord, Mass.; and six grandchildren.
