Lawrence Cormier, 81 Floral City

Lawrence Henry Cormier, 81, Floral City, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness.

Born June 1, 1922, in Cambridge, Mass., he moved here in 1986 from Rockland, Mass.

Mr. Cormier was the owner and operator of Anita Marie's Coffee & Doughnut Shop in Rockland for 31 years.

He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and an avid fisherman, cribbage and casual poker player.

He was Catholic.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anita Cormier, Feb. 21, 2001.

Survivors include daughter-in-law, Anne-Marie Cormier of Floral City; son, Richard Cormier of Burlington, Conn.; brother, Ernest Cormier of Watertown, Mass.; sisters, Lillian McDonnell of Waltham, Mass., and Alice Fitzgerald of Vacaville, Calif.; sister-in-law, Rose Anne Cormier of Waltham, Mass.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Phyllis Dillon, 75 Logansport, Ind.

Phyllis J. Dillon, 75, Logansport, Ind., sister of Wilmer McCloskey of Inverness, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Hospital, Kokomo, Ind.

Born Feb. 21, 1928, in Young America, Ind., she was the daughter of Wilbur and Ethel (Hubler) McCloskey.

She was married April 1, 1949, in Young America to Jack N. Dillon, who died Sept. 29, 1995.

Mrs. Dillon was a 1946 graduate of Young America High School.

A homemaker, she enjoyed line dancing, playing cards, going to garage sales and especially spending time with her family.

Three sisters, Mary Addy, Wilma Straight and Gene Ison; and one brother, Don McCloskey, preceded her in death.

Surviving are one son, Jeff Dillon and wife, Kim, of Logansport, Ind.; two sisters, Sue Wheeler and husband, Chuck, of Logansport, Ind., and Joan Smiley and husband, Paul, of Rochester, Ind.; three brothers, Wilmer McCloskey and wife, Eileen, of Inverness, Max McCloskey and wife, Joan, of Logansport, Ind., and Rex McCloskey and wife, Helen, of Winter Haven; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Catherine Finn, 83 Inverness

Catherine M. Finn, 83, Inverness, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at Avante at Inverness care center.

She was born Jan. 14, 1920, in New York City, N.Y., to Harry and Bridgett (McLaughlin) Melia and moved here in 1973 from Staten Island, N.Y.

Mrs. Finn was a retired United States Government employee.

She was a member and eucharistic minister of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Inverness.

She was a member of the Council of Catholic Women, Point O' Woods Country Club, and a former member of SHARE Club of Citrus Memorial Hospital, all of Inverness.

She was an avid card player at the East Citrus Community Center and Point O' Woods clubhouse.

Mrs. Finn was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Timothy J. Finn; and three sisters, Eleanor Calogeras, Margaret Fisher and Beatrice Meehan.

She is survived by a twin sister, Mary Innes, and brother-in-law, John Innes, of Inverness; one son, Paul, of Kanapolis, N.C.; one grandson and one granddaughter; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mary Gregor, 90 Dunnellon

Mary Marjorie Gregor, 90, Dunnellon, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at the caregiver's residence in Silver Springs Shores, Ocala.

Born in Gainesville and formerly of Margate, she moved to the Ocala area in 2001.

She was a homemaker.

She was Christian.

She was predeceased by two daughters, Frances Gardner and Marjorie Gregor.

She is survived by one son, Anthony Gregor of Dunnellon.

Marjorie Kelly, 83 Lecanto

Marjorie Kelly, 83, Lecanto, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at Surrey Place Convalescent Center in Lecanto.

Born July 5, 1920, in Tilton, Ill., to William H. and Mabel I. (Arnold) Collins, she moved here in 1984 from Chicago, Ill.

Mrs. Kelly was a retired copywriter in the advertising industry.

She was Methodist.

Surviving are one sister, Juanita Smith of Inverness; and a niece, Dr. Lynn Brentnall of Atlanta, Ga.

John 'Jack' Mulroy, 76 Inglis

John E. "Jack" Mulroy, 76, Inglis, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness.

A native of Hoytdale, Pa., he moved to Inglis in 1993 from St. Petersburg and was a retired brick mason.

He was Methodist.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Harriet J. Mulroy of Inglis; and a son, Chuck Mulroy of Jacksonville.

Hilda Schellig, 87 South Windham, Conn.

Hilda L. Schellig, 87, South Windham, Conn., formerly of Inverness, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at the John Dempsey Hospital, Farmington, Conn.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, John "Biff" Schellig.

She was born March 14, 1916, in Staatsburg, N.Y., and resided in Hyde Park, N.Y., until 1980 when she and her husband moved to Inverness. They moved to Connecticut this year.

She was the valedictorian of her high school class in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., in 1932. She then graduated as a R.N. from Vassar Hospital School of Nursing in Poughkeepsie in 1937. Mrs. Schellig attended New York University and majored in public health. She worked as a private practical nurse and for seven years, beginning in 1950, as a VNA staff nurse in Poughkeepsie. For 10 years, she served as supervisor for the Heart Chapter's Children's Cardiac Clinic and for 20 years as assistant director of the Dutchess County Heart Chapter, both in Poughkeepsie. She had also served as the president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion in Staatsburg, N.Y.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Henry Hinckley of S. Windham, Conn.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Golie Virgil, 67 Beverly Hills

Golie T. Virgil, 67, Beverly Hills, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, in Crystal River.

Born in Trinidad to Richard and Jane (Quamina) Grant, she moved here 16 years ago from Newark, N.J.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed collecting dolls and sewing.

She was Christian.

Survivors include four sons, Carl Virgil and wife, Ann, of Maplewood, N.J., Brian Virgil and wife, Sylvia, of San Diego, Calif., Al Virgil of Inverness and Raymond Virgil of Beverly Hills; one daughter, Linda Sibel and husband, Steven, of Beverly Hills; eight grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
