BUNNELL -- Cecil McQueen Shepherd, 80, of Hardy Street, a bridge tender for the bridge on Route 100 in Flagler Beach, died Thursday at home.
Mr. Shepherd, a Navy veteran of World War II, who served in the Pacific Theater, was born in Chadbourn, N.C. He moved to this area in 1971 from Salisbury, N.C. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Bunnell, and the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 8696. Mr. Shepherd enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty Jo; two daughters, Cecelia Shepherd, Bunnell, and Bobbie Nelson, Port Orange; a brother, Marshall, Whiteville, N.C.; and a sister, Dorothy Odom, Aspers, Pa. DAYTONA BEACH -- Robert J. Smith, 84, of Weaver Street, who retired after 34 years with the City of Daytona Beach Water Department, died Thursday at Halifax Medical Center.
Mr. Smith moved to this area in 1947 from his native Burner, Ga. He was a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir and served on the Board of Ushers. Mr. Smith enjoyed fishing and watching baseball games.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marie; two sons, Robert, Orlando, and Ronald, Atlanta; four daughters, Peggy Thomas, Patsy Moore, Sheila Smith and Sharon Robinson, all of Daytona Beach; three brothers, Ezra, Daytona Beach, Arthur, Jackson, Ga., and Felton, Forsyth, Ga.; a sister, Lena Knighton, Daytona Beach; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. SOUTH DAYTONA -- Steven W. Berta, 65, of Reed Canal Road, a 20-year resident, died Thursday at Oaktree Health Center.
Mr. Berta, an Army veteran, moved here from his birthplace, Allegheny County, Pa.

DELAND -- Mildred Merta Bower, 103, of Barden Drive, who retired in 1964 after 30 years as an elementary teacher, died Wednesday at Alliance Community Center for Health Care.
Born in Lyons, Mich., Mrs. Bower came to this area in 1980 from McAllen, Texas. She was a member of Christ Community Church. She was a graduate of Michigan State Normal College and earned her bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University.
Survivors include two sons, William, Davenport, and Robert, Mansfield, Ohio; a daughter, Mary Bower, DeLand; nine grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

DELAND -- Glen Lee Boyer, 28, of North High Street, an Orlando native, died Friday as the result of an automobile accident in Glenwood which is near DeLand.
Mr. Boyer, who worked in the construction industry moved to this area in 1986 from his birthplace. He enjoyed fishing, the beach and swimming.
Survivors include a son, Drew, DeBary; his mother and stepfather, Mireya and William Jacks, DeLand; three brothers, Percival Fowles and Randolph Boyer, both of Orange City, and Anthony Boyer, DeLand; and a sister, Babette Boyer, Lake Helen. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

SATELLITE BEACH -- William Bradford Brown, 51, of Satellite Beach, the son of Evagene Brown and the brother of Susan Brown, both DeLand residents, died Tuesday at Florida Hospital-DeLand.
Born in Chicago, Mr. Brown, an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, moved to Satellite Beach in 2003 from San Marcos, Texas. He was an independent contractor with the Department of Defense having worked with ITT, NASA, Northrop B-2 and the Stealth Bomber Division.
Additional survivors include his wife of 26 years, Toni; a son, Bradford, Satellite Beach; and a stepson, Joshua Robberts, Jupiter. NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Frank Comardo, 86, of South Glencoe Road, a retired truck driver for the General Motors Corp., Rochester, N.Y., died Wednesday at Bert Fish Medical Center.
Mr. Comardo, an Army veteran of World War II, was born in Retsof, N.Y., and moved to this area in 1977 from Rochester. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Daytona Beach.
Survivors include two sons, Donald, New Smyrna Beach, and Frank, Rochester; and four grandchildren. Dudley, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

EDGEWATER -- John M. Dobmeier, 87, of Casa Grande, who retired as plant superintendent for the Buffalo Envelope Co., Buffalo, N.Y., died Wednesday at home.
Mr. Dobmeier was born in Buffalo, and moved here in 1999 from St. Petersburg. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, St. Petersburg. He enjoyed fishing and golfing.

Mrs. Hayes was born in Washington, D.C., and moved to this area in 1998 from Fairfax, Va.

SOUTH DAYTONA -- John J. Kelly, 64, of Ridgewood Avenue, a resident since 1981, died Wednesday at home.
Mr. Kelly was born in Jersey City, N.J., and came here from Keansburg, N.J. He retired as an operating engineer and is a member of the Operating Engineers, Little Falls, N.J.
Survivors include four sons, Patrick, Port Orange, John and George, both of Matawan, N.J., and Peter, Weatherford, Okla.; a daughter, Kathleen Rodriguez, Perryton, Texas; a sister, Irene Kelly, Brick, N.J.; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Volusia Memorial, Port Orange, is in charge.

ORANGE CITY -- Joseph Eston Long, 79, of East Holly Drive, who retired in 1970 as a short haul truck driver in Orlando, died Tuesday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial.
Mr. Long, an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, was born in Chuluota. He moved to this area in January from Chiefland. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

HOLLY HILL -- Patrick James Marsh, 53, of Magnolia Avenue, a carpenter, died Tuesday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.
Mr. Marsh, a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, was a native and lifetime resident of the Daytona Beach area. He was a graduate of Mainland High School. Mr. Marsh enjoyed football, fishing and cards.

DELAND -- Bettie G. Parker, 77, of West Rich Avenue, a bookkeeper for Christ Community Church, died Thursday at Florida Hospital-DeLand.
Mrs. Parker was born in Nameoki, Ill., and moved here 1974 from Hialeah. She was a member of Christ Community and Christian and Missionary Alliance churches.
