Cristina (Nina) M. Shirah, 19, of Belleair Bluffs died Sunday, May 11, 2003, in St. Petersburg. She was born in Tampa and was an area resident of Marianna. She attended Marianna area schools and furthered her education at Pinellas Technical Education Center and worked as a telemarketer. She is survived by her mother, Cindy L. LaPaugh of Belleair Bluffs; her father, Rod Shirah of Greenwood; a brother, Thomas Robinson and her grandparents, Pauline and James Lee, all of Tampa, and the late Lois and Al Shirah of Greenwood.

A memorial service will be held at Greenwood Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 7.

William Tallice "W.T." Hinson Sr., 93, of Grand Ridge died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at his residence.

Born in Geneva County, Ala., he had lived in Jackson County most of his life, was a painter and of the Assembly of God faith.

He is survived by his wife, Mary G. Hinson of Grand Ridge; one son, Tallice Hinson Jr. and his wife, Elsie of Sneads; one daughter, Patricia Ann Mordes of Grand Ridge; two sisters, Blanche Thomas of Graceville and Clara Griffin of Sneads; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. CST Friday, June 6, at James and Sikes Funeral Home, Sneads Chapel with the Rev. A.E. Hall officiating. Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery with James and Sikes Funeral Home, Sneads Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. CST today, Thursday, June 5, at the Sneads Chapel.

The funeral for Elynor M. Kindig, 93, of Marianna will be held today at 11 a.m. graveside at Magnolia Cemetery in Evergreen, Ala. James and Sikes Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel directing.

The funeral for Lottie Alday Standland, 72, of Bascom will be held today at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Bascom. Burial will be in the church cemetery with James and Sikes Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel of Marianna directing.

Robert Rich Davison, 73, of Bascom died at his residence, Thursday, June 12, 2003.

Arrangements will be announced by James and Sikes Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel of Marianna.

Ethel K. Thorne, 84, of Marianna died Thursday morning, June 12, in Marianna.

Arrangements will be announced by James and Sikes Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel of Marianna.

Mary L. Mack, 89, of Marianna died Tuesday morning in the Courtyard at the Mill Pond in Marianna.

She was a native of Georgia but had lived most of her life in Marianna and was a member of Bethel Star Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Hawkins and her husband, Larry of Montclair, N.J.; six sons, Leonard Brown of Miami, Thomas Scott of California, Mozell Mack and his wife, Dorothy of California, Dan Whitten and his wife, Gloria of East Orange, N.J., Gordan Mack and his wife, Annie Mae of Marianna, and Willis C. Mack of New Hampshire; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Saturday, June 14, at 11 a.m. at the Bethel Star Missionary Baptist Church in Marianna with Dr. L.L. Brooks officiating. Burial will be in the Orange Hill Cemetery under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville.

Visitation will be held today, Friday, June 13, from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Bethel Star Baptist Church in Marianna.

Ruth P. Nichols, 95, of Altha died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Calhoun-Liberty Hospital in Blountstown.

Arrangements will be announced by James and Sikes Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel of Marianna.

Susan Anna Chatwood, 85, of Marianna died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Bay Medical Center in Panama City.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, a homemaker and a member of the Holley Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Her life was devoted to her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bartley Thomas Chatwood in 1969, and two sons, Walter Chatwood in 1998 and Thomas Broward Chatwood in 2002.

She is survived by three sons, Frank Chatwood and his wife, Glenda, Julius M. "Chick" Chatwood and his wife, Melissa, all of Marianna, and Marcus J. Chatwood of Atlanta; three daughters, Anna R. Robinson of Dothan, Patsy C. Lawson of Chipley and Rochelle Killam and her husband, Joe of Panama City; one daughter-in-law, Ann Chatwood of Marianna; one sister, Annie Kent and her husband, Joe of Marianna; one brother, James Edward Lamb and his wife, Bernice of Austin, Texas; 23 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 20, at Damascus Free Will Baptist Church in Marianna with the Revs. Donnie Hussey and Walter Baxley officiating. Burial will be in Dykes Cemetery in Marianna with James and Sikes Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel of Marianna directing.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, June 19, at the funeral home.

Flowers will be accepted or those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Bay County Council on Aging 1116 Frankfort Avenue, Panama City, FL 32401.

William Vernon Page, 62, of Altamonte Springs died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at his residence.

Born in Checotah, Okla., he was retired as a contract specialist with Lockheed Martin and was a member of Riverside Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Page of Altamonte Springs; one son, Vernon Sanderson Page of Decatur, Ala.; one daughter, Mary Page of Orlando; one step-daughter, Dana Beattie of Tallahassee; his mother, Loraine Alford of Salinas, Calif.; his father, Robert Eugene Page of Bakersfield, Calif.; one brother, Dr. Robert Page of Davis, Calif.; one sister, Marilyn Redmond of Wallace, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 19, at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bill Franks officiating and James and Sikes Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel directing.

Doris E. Stillinger, 78, of Sneads died Sunday, June 15, 2003, in Marianna.

She was a native of Columbia, S.C. and a member of the Sneads First United Methodist Church. She had moved to Sneads in 1963. She was a retired psychiatric aide with the Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee.

She is survived by one daughter, Brenda Kay Peacock and her husband, Dillon of Sneads; one son, Paul Brent Stillinger of Sneads; two sisters, Virginia Smith of Columbia, S.C. and Mildred Finkle of Albany, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Melissa Harcus of Bonifay, Michael Peacock of Sneads and Stephanie Stillinger of Sneads; and two great-grandchildren, Grafton Harcus of Bonifay and Branton Peacock of Sneads.

A graveside funeral will be held today, Tuesday, June 17, at 10 a.m. CDT at Dykes Cemetery in Jackson County.

Memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 4349 Lafayette St., Marianna, FL 32447.

Carlyne Boykin Daffin, of Cove Condominium, 100 Cherry St. in Panama City, died peacefully in her home on Friday morning, June 13, 2003.

Born on November 13, 1905 in Gadsden County, she moved to Panama City as the bride of S.A. Daffin Jr. of Daffin Mercantile Co. in November 1932. She became a successful homemaker, civic leader and effective participant in the membership of the First Presbyterian Church of Panama City (formerly Wallace Memorial) for 68 years. She was a past president of the Panama City Woman's Club, co-founder of the Panama City Junior Woman's Club, past president of the Bay Medical Center Women's Auxiliary and held various district and state offices in hospital auxiliary and Woman's Club. She was active in the Garden Club, the St. Andrew Bay Yacht Club Auxiliary, was a member of the "As You Like It" Luncheon Club, was a 70-year member of the Florida Federation of Woman's Clubs and through the years participated in many other civic, social and church-related organizations.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney A. Daffin Jr.

She is survived by two sons, Dr. Sidney A. Daffin III and his wife, Rebecca and Edgar O. Daffin and his wife, Kitsey, all of Panama City; a daughter, Dr. Julianne Daffin of Atlanta, Ga.; two granddaughters, Shelby Julianne Daffin Brock of Atlanta, Ga. and Maryann Daffin Burt and her husband, Bob Burt of Panama City Beach; three great-grandchildren, Ashley and Emily Brock of Cornelia, Ga. and Sidney Christian Daffin Small of Panama City; niece, Edlyne Boykin Boyer and her husband, Dr. Michael Boyer and five grandnephews of McAlester, Okla.; niece, Sara Eleanor Boykin Smithey and her husband, Hertis Smithey of Philadelphia, Pa.; nephew, the Rev. Burton Haldane Boykin and his wife, Anita and seven grandnephews of Leeds, Ala.; niece, Sydney Lewis Heflin and her husband, Colonel Nikki Heflin of Gainesville; as well as numerous other Daffin related nieces, nephews, cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews who reside in Dothan, Ala., Marianna, throughout Florida and the southern states. She is also survived by one first cousin, her childhood playmate, Cecile Tyson Harris of Decatur, Ga. and numerous lifelong and recent friends who were especially caring and attentive to her in recent years.

The Daffin family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Lisenby Home Care Inc. and to the staff of Hospice of the Emerald Coast for their loyal and steadfast concern for and care of Mrs. Daffin.

A graveside service for family members, at Mrs. Daffin's request, will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery. A memorial service for her friends and family to celebrate her life and memory will be held Friday, June 20 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in downtown Panama City. The Revs. Burt H. Boykin and Si Mathieson will officiate at the memorial celebration.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make a contribution to the memorial fund or Church School of First Presbyterian Church, the Girls Club of Bay County, or Friends of Bay County Public Library, in memory of Carlyne Daffin.

William Vernon Page, 62, of Altamonte Springs died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at his residence. Arrangements will be announced by James and Sikes Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel of Marianna.

Charles B. Gilbert Sr., 84, of 3073 Bumpnose Road died Saturday, June 14, 2003, in Jackson Hospital following a brief illness.

He was a native and life long resident of Jackson County and a member of the St. John Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by two sons, Charles B. Gilbert Jr. and his wife, Altamese and Willie E. Gilbert, all of Tampa; three daughters, Mrs. Gertrude G. Sims of Marianna, Mrs. Lucille Gilbert of Greenwood, and Mrs. Vera G. James and her husband, Charles of Queens Village, N.Y.; one brother, Toney L. Gilbert and his wife, Jesse of Jacksonville; two sisters, Mrs. Cornelious Gilbert of Marianna and Mrs. Fannie M. Cook of Jacksonville; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Saturday, June 21, at 2 p.m. at the St. John Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs. Robert Wooden and James Robinson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna directing.

The body will lie at the church one hour prior to the funeral.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, June 20, from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m.

William Vernon Page, 62, of Altamonte Springs died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at his residence.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, June 19, at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, James and Sikes Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel directing.

Minister Thelma Bowers Swilley, 77, of 3010 Embassy Drive, West Palm Beach, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday evening, June 10, 2003.

She was born on October 2, 1925, the second of 13 children, to the late Rev. Andrew Hunter Bowers and the late Mrs. Gertrude Smith Bowers, in the Jackson County town of Bascom.

She received her primary education at Liberty Hill School in Bascom and her secondary education at Jackson County Training School in Marianna and Rosenwald High School in Panama City. Her post-secondary education was an associate of arts degree in education in 1946 from Florida Normal & Industrial College in St. Augustine (currently Florida Memorial College in Miami), a bachelor of science in education in 1950 from Florida A&M College in Tallahassee, a master of science degree in education, in the early 1960's, from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee and a master of science degree in guidance and counseling in 1969 from Florida State University in Tallahassee. She did graduate study in guidance and counseling in 1956 at Tennessee A&I State University in Nashville, Tenn.

She was an educator whose career began in 1946 in Jackson County at Union Grove Elementary as a first grade teacher. Through the years in Jackson County, she taught at Long Branch Elementary, Mt. Olive Elementary, Jackson County Training School and served as guidance counselor at Union Grove High School. Mrs. Swilley and her family relocated to Palm Beach County in 1972 where she served as a grade six teacher for one semester, then guidance counselor at Jupiter Elementary School until her retirement in 1983. She served as president of the Guidance Counselors Association of the school district of Palm Beach County during the 1982-83 academic year.

She met Henry Alphonse Swilley at age 13 and married him nine year later on October 4, 1947. They were blessed with six children. She was co-owner with her husband of Swilley Construction Company in Marianna and Swilley Enterprise Rentals in West Palm Beach. She was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and was a civil rights activist in Jackson County where her six children integrated Chipola Community College, Marianna High School and Riverside Elementary School during the 1965-66 school year.

She was a devoted servant of God. She was a deaconess at the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Marianna where she taught Sunday School and served as youth director. In West Palm Beach, she was a member of Pleasant Heights Missionary Baptist Church, Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher in the breakfast ministry for the homeless and Greater Bethel Primitive Baptist Church where she was a dedicated member of the Mothers Board. She was called into the ministry in 1997 at Greater Bethel, where she served faithfully as an associate minister.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995 and their son, Albert Rhenea Swilley in 1968 at age 15; two sisters, Gussie Bowers Robinson and Alice Bowers White; and one brother, the Rev. Nehemiah Bowers.

She leaves a rich legacy for her five surviving children, Anthony Llewellyn Swilley Sr. (Sheryl) of New Orleans, La., Gerte Yvonne Swilley Carter (Samuel) of Marietta, Ga., Henry Swilley Jr., Tcherina Swilley Duncombe, and Phyllis Swilley Adderley (Aaron), all of West Palm Beach; former daughter-in-law, Vida McPhaul Swilley of Moreno Valley, Calif.; former son-in-law, Guernesy Dewitt Duncombe of Miami; grandchildren, Anthony Llewewllyn Swilley Jr., Naki Nicole Carter, Aisha Rhenea Carter, Brandon Dewitt Duncombe, Toussaint Swilley, Julianna Swilley; step-granddaughters, Leah and Aneka Adderley; aunt, Clemmie Smith (Ponder) of Malone; brothers, Horace Bowers Sr. (Alice), Andrew Bowers Sr. (Rutha Doris), Dr. Mirion Bowers Sr. (Geraldine), all of Los Angele, Calif., Attorney Theodore Bowers (Esther) of Panama City, and the Rev. Wallace Bowers (Lois) of Tampa; sisters, Queen Brown of Marianna, Dr. Doris Herring (Wesley) of Bascom, Morrise Blaine (Dr. Robert) of Hyattsville, Md., and Glynette Brown (Rev. Gene) of Tampa; brother-in-law, Benjamin Swilley (Cathy) of Houston, Texas; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Swilley Cuyler (Samuel) of Newark, N.J., Inez Swilley Summers of Marianna, Maggie Elizabeth Swilley McElveen (Ret. Col. David) of Ft. Washington, Md., Elizabeth Swilley of Portsmouth, Va., Erma Boyd Swilley Hines of Palatka, and Hattie Hayes Bowers of Quincy; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, June 21 at 11 a.m. at the New Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Marianna. Burial will be at Orange Hill Cemetery in Marianna. Family and friends may call today, Friday, June 20, from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Vann Funeral Home, 4265 St. Andrews Street, Marianna, Fla. 32448.
