RUTH LEATRICE GAINEY, 73, of Plant City died Saturday at National Health Care. A native of Chesterfield County, S.C., she moved to the area one year ago from Myrtle Beach, S.C. She was retired from Life of Georgia Insurance Co. and a member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Hartsville, S.C. She is survived by three sons, Ronald E. of Plant City, Ryan of Atlanta and Phillip of Savannah, Ga.; a daughter, Jennifer Sullivan of Lexington, S.C.; and nine grandchildren. Wells Memorial Funeral Home, Plant City.

PERLA E. GARCIA, 92, of Tampa died Sunday. A lifelong resident of Tampa, she was the owner of a retail store, member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and Centro Asturiano Club of Tampa. She is survived by two sons, August J. "Augie" Jr. and L.W. "Skippy"; two sisters, Violet Tamargo and Grace Cabeza; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great- grandchildren. Gonzalez Funeral Home, Tampa.

HARRY McCARTNEY, 83, of Brandon died Sunday. A native of Indianapolis, he was a longtime resident of the area. He was the first chaplain at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, co-owner of Florida Sporting Goods, an Army veteran of World War II and member of Seminole Heights Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Geneva; and a son, Gerry M. of Brandon. Garden of Memories-Myrtle Hill Funeral Home, Tampa.

GEORGE THOMAS McKENDREE JR., 75, of Brandon died Sunday at University Community Hospital. A native of Sarasota, he was a longtime resident of the area. He was a retired union electrician, a Coast Guard veteran of World War II, member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local No. 915, A.W. Windhorst Lodge No. 185 Free and Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite and Low Twelve Club. He is survived by his wife, Catherine L.; a son, James I. of Tampa; a daughter, Elaine of Brandon; three brothers, Murray and Clyde Whitted, both of Sarasota and Floyd Whitted of Hardeeville, S.C.; two sisters, Ila Corbett of Sarasota and Christine Standridge of Bradenton; and three grandchildren. JOHN W. MILLER, 71, of Sun City Center died Saturday at Columbia South Bay Hospital. A native of Newark, N.J., he moved to the area in 1990 from Medford Lake, N.J. He was retired from Philco-Ford, was a Marine veteran, member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Sun City Center Golf & Racquet Club, Monday Wedgewood Golf Group, Medford Lake Country Club and president of Wedgewood Homeowners Association. PAUL E. PERRY, 85, of Tampa died Saturday at James A. Haley Veterans Affairs Hospital. A native of Dover, N.H., he moved to Tampa in 1990 from Wildwood, N.J. He was a retired chef in the Navy, Catholic, member of American Legion and Elk's Club. He is survived by his wife, Gladys; a son, Paul L. of Tampa; two sisters, Catherine Dalton and Leona Lemire, both of Clearwater; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
