DAVID A. LINDSAY, 47, of Auburndale died Friday in Lakeland. A native of Chicago, he came to this area in 1991 from Illinois and worked as a security guard for a power plant. He is survived by his wife, Carolann of Lexington, Mich.; a son, David Jr. of Cherry Point, N.C.; a daughter, Dawn of Mount Pleasant, Mich.; and a sister, Sharon Septer of Avon Park. Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home, Avon Park.

GERTRUDE JONES MCCLENDON, 90, of Babson Park died Monday at home. A native of Allerton, Ill., she moved to Lake Wales in 1913, later lived in Georgia while maintaining a seasonal home in Babson Park and returned to Polk County during the 1960s. She was a former second-grade teacher and primary school principal in Lake Wales, 1988 Lake Wales Pioneer of the Year Award and a founder of First United Methodist Church of Lake Wales. She was a volunteer for Methodist Youth Fellowship and member of First United Methodist Altar Guild, Louise Tillman Class and Missionary Circle, the Ladies' Golf Association of Lake Wales Country Club, Daughters of the American Revolution and Garden Club, all in Lake Wales. She is survived by a son, Grady of Babson Park; a daughter, Ann Voigt of Waverly, Ga.; a sister, Ruth Jones von Waldburg of Lauderhill; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. ENGELEEN JOHNSON PAUL, 89, of Auburndale died Sunday at home. A native of Ceresco, Neb., she moved to Auburndale in 1954 from Johnson City, Tenn. She was a retired teacher and member of First Presbyterian Church, Business & Professional Women's Club and teaching associations. She is survived by a son, Norman of Auburndale; a sister, Vivian Anderson of Oakland, Neb.; and two grandchildren. Kersey Funeral Home, Auburndale.

BEULAH MORRIS QUINN, 91, of Polk City died Tuesday at Bartow Memorial Hospital. A native of Uvalda, Ga., she moved to thi sarea 71 years ago. She was a retired teacher and member of First Baptist Church. She is survived by a son, Kenny M. of Winter Haven; three sisters, Evelyn Lineberger of Winter Haven, Nell Edinborough of Clermont and Elizabeth Spalding of Denver; two brothers, Douglas Morris of LaBelle and Robert Morris of Jacksonville; two grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren. PHILIP B. ROBERTS, 75, of Winter Haven died Sunday at Winter Haven Hospital. A native of York, Pa., he moved to this area in 1978. He was a retired factory representative for H.J. Heinz Food Co. in Pittsburgh, a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Louise L.; a son, Richard P. of Miami; a daughter, Cathy Caldarone, and two sisters, Jeanette A. Hibner and Vivian M. FRANKIE LEE WILLINGHAM, 70, of Davenport died Monday at home. A native of Manila, Ark., she moved to Polk County from Clearwater 36 years ago and worked as file clerk for Florida Department of Agriculture. She was Methodist. She is survived by a son, James. R. JAMES F. DEAN, 56, of St. Petersburg died Friday. He was the owner of J.D. Painting, a bartender for the Flamingo Bar, a member of the Army Reserves and Baptist. He is survived by a daughter, Amy Elrod of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two stepsons, Mike Spencer of St. Petersburg and Steve Spencer of Tennessee; two stepdaughters, Doris Gonser and Barbara Johnson, both of St. Petersburg; his mother, Katherine Crowe of Odessa; four brothers, Lee Crowe of Jacksonville, Jimmy Crowe of Dothan, Ala., and Tome Crowe and Freddie Crowe, both of Tampa; three sisters, Brenda Watson of Odessa, JoAnn Gregory of Valrico and Vickie Wallace of Japan; and eight grandchildren. ALLAN C. DeGROOT, 79, of Mulberry died Monday at Lakeland Healthcare Center. A native of Garden City, N.D., he moved to Polk County more than 40 years ago from Tarpon Springs. He was a retired salesman for McGinnis Lumber Co. in Lakeland, a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 945 in Lakeland and attended Christ the King Episcopal Church in Lakeland. He is survived by his wife, E. Joan; a son, Dennis of Tarpon Springs; five stepsons, Kerry Clarke and K.C. RICHARD L. HEYL, 79, of Largo died Friday at Mariner Health of Belleair. A native of Cincinnati, he moved to this area in 1979 from Orlando. He was a certified public accountant, an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the National Federation of Retired Federal Employees, Elks, Largo Lodge, Tuesday Men's Club at Largo Municipal Golf Course and St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He is survived by two sons, Michael G. of Bradenton and Stephen of Denver; a daughter, Sandra H. Megica of Pretoria, South Africa; a brother, Jerome of Amelia, Ohio; two sisters, Virginia D. EDWARD J. KOCH, 78, of Largo died Sunday at home. He moved to this area in 1983 from his native Jeffersonville, Ind. He was a supervisor for Colgate-Palmolive Co. in Clarksville, Ind., for 43 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II and recipient of a Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus and St. Augustine Catholic Church, all in Jeffersonville, and the Elks in Seminole. He is survived by his wife, Emma; two daughters, Jean Steele of Jeffersonville and Donna Watson of Scottsboro, Ala.; a brother, Kenneth Williams of Jeffersonville; and six grandchildren. JOHN WILLIAM "JACK" LABUS, 18, of Clearwater died Monday at Columbia Clearwater Community Hospital as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was a senior at Clearwater High School, a lifeguard at the Carlouel Yacht Club and a member of Boy Scout Troop 455 and Light of Christ Catholic Church. He is survived by his parents, Larry and Kathy of Clearwater; three brothers, Tim, Don and Brian, all of Clearwater; his paternal grandparents, Jack and Ann of Gaithersburg, Md.; his maternal grandmother, Virginia Walter of Clearwater; and his maternal step-grandmother, Marcia Walter of Seminole. FRANCIS XAVIER MAGUIRE JR., 57, of St. Petersburg died Friday at Columbia St. Petersburg Medical Center. He moved to this area in 1977 from his native Norristown, Pa. He was parochial vicar at Transfiguration Catholic Church. Prior to entering the priesthood in 1990, he had worked in a printing business in Philadelphia for 20 years, and sold boat and marine supplies in St. Petersburg. He served as parochial vicar at Sacred Heart Catholic Church from 1990 to 1994, at Holy Family Catholic Church from 1994 to June 1996, when he began at Transfiguration Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the Army Reserves, a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of Valley Forge Songmen, the Ancient Order of Hibernians - Notre Dame Division, the Friars Club and Save the Manatees. He is survived by his mother, Gertrude M. of Norristown; a sister, Geraldine Ruser of Norristown; and several nieces and nephews. Brett Funeral Home and Cremation Services, St. Petersburg.

HOWARD C. METZGER, 89, of Palm Harbor died Sunday at Sun Coast Hospital in Largo. He moved to this area in 1953 from his native Peoria, Ill. He was a former developer. FRED SANDBERG, 85, of Clearwater died Saturday at Hospice House Viewtop. A native of Washington, D.C., he moved to this area in 1978 from Barrington, N.J. He was a retired geological survey photographer and map maker for the federal government, an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Skycrest Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Edythe; a stepson, Robert E. Smyth of Haddonfield, N.J.; a stepdaughter, Nancy J. BARBARA JO THOMPSON, 62, of Dunedin died Sunday at home. A native of Anderson, Ind., she moved to this area in 1961 from Fort Wayne, Ind. She was a retired art and humanities teacher at Kekionga Junior High School in Fort Wayne, employed by the YWCA in St. Petersburg, owner-operator of the Fig Leaf Dress Boutique in Palm Harbor and a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and First United Methodist Church in Dunedin. RAY WALLACE, 74, of Largo died Friday at Columbia Largo Medical Center. A native of Moorehead, Ky., he moved to this area in 1979 from Mansfield, Ohio.
