W.W. Carter

W.W. (Woodrow) Carter of the Hamilton Crossroads Community in Brundidge, Ala., died at Flowers Hospital on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003. He was 89. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, at the Hamilton Crossroads Church of Christ with Minister Doug Williams, Minister Glen VanZant and Minister Chris Barnett officiating. Burial will be held in the Hamilton Crossroads Church of Christ cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, Sept. 8, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home in Brundidge. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.

Dillard Funeral Home of Brundidge, 334-735-2375, is in charge of arrangements.

Wilburn Carl Dunning Jr.

Wilburn Carl Dunning Jr. of Beaufort, S.C., died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. He was 79. Graveside services with military honors will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Beaufort National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Copeland Funeral Home. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Friends of Caroline Hospice, 1110 13th St., Port Royal, S.C., 29935.

Harvey Hall

Harvey Hall of Enterprise, Ala., died on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, in Enterprise. He was 66. Funeral arrangements may be obtained by calling Searcy Funeral Home.

Marvin Jackson

Mr. Marvin "Joe" Jackson of Kristie Road, Dothan, Ala., passed away on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at his residence following an extended illness. He was 67. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, at Church of God in Christ #1 with Elder J.C. McLeod officiating. Burial will follow in Gates of Heaven Cemetery with Hammond Funeral Home directing. Viewing will be today after 3 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the funeral.

Johnnie Marion Mitchell

Mrs. Johnnie Marion Nettles Mitchell passed Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Greater Beulah Baptist Church in Dothan. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church, Allen Road, Dothan.

Jimmie L. Moton

Mr. Jimmie L. Moton of Monroe Street in Dothan died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, at his home. He was 69. A complete list of survivors and arrangements will be announced later.

Eula Hogan Moring

Mrs. Eula Hogan Moring of Lake Oliver Drive, Enterprise, Ala., died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at her residence. She was 97. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, in the Patterson Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel with Hospice Chaplain Talmadge Butler officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Patterson Sorrells Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, Sept. 8, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, P.O. Box 311103, Enterprise, Ala., 36331, St. Judes Childrenís Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105 or the Coffee County Gideonís, P.O. Box 310173, Enterprise, Ala., 36331-0173.

Bernice Smith

Mrs. Bernice Smith of Malone, Fla., passed Saturday afternoon at 3:20 p.m. in the Campbellton-Graceville Hospital. She was 84. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be announced later.

Jackson William Stokes

Jackson William "Bill" Stokes of Elba, Ala., passed away Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, at his residence. He was 74. Funeral services will be held at the Elba United Methodist Church on Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, beginning at 3 p.m. with the Rev. John Baxter officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with Hayes Funeral Home of Elba directing. Visitation will be at Hayes Funeral Home on Monday, Sept. 8, from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to Wiregrass Hospice, 557 Glover Ave., Enterprise, Ala., 36330.

Margaret Tindol

Margaret "Marge" Tindol of New Brockton, Ala., (Old Tabernacle Community) died on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, at Enterprise Nursing Home. She was 89. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be announced later.

Searcy Funeral Home of Enterprise, 334-347-2517, is in charge of arrangements.

Larry Wayne "Sonny" Christmas, 65, of Cottonwood, Ala. died at his residence Sunday, September 7, 2003.

He was a native of Jackson County and lived in Medina, North Dakota from 1973 until 1984 before moving to Houston County. He loved to work with wood and he enjoyed spending his time reading western books. He was a Freewill Baptist by faith and a member of the VFW.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William (Doc) and Mary Etta Christmas; four sisters, died as infants; and two brothers, Willis and Roy Christmas.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 35 years, Verdina R. Christmas of Cottonwood, Ala.; one son, Charles Simmons of Tallahassee; three daughters, Stepheny Ann Roberts and her husband, Tim of Marianna, Anita Rae Toole of Cottonwood, Ala. and Melody Amanda Christmas of Dothan, Ala.; one brother, Coy Dee Christmas and his wife, Emma of Lompoc, Calif.; three sisters, Kathy Albritton and her husband, Sam of Cottondale, Alene Cook and her husband, Willie of Cottondale, and Nadine Finch and her husband, Dale of El Paso, Texas; and 10 grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, September 10, at 10 a.m. in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Whitt officiating. Burial will be in the Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends this evening, Tuesday, September 9, in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Wiregrass Hospice and Emerald Coast Hospice of Dothan, Ala.

Philip Craig Shuford Sr., 76, of Starke died Sunday, September 7, 2003, at Shands at Alachua General Hospital following a long illness.

Born in Drakes Branch, Va. on April 26, 1927, he moved to Starke in 1928 from Saxe, Va. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Starke. He was regional director for the Florida Department of Corrections and retired in 1992 with over 28 years of service. He was a member of the Florida Council on Crime and Delinquency, Elk (BPOE) Club, and honorary member of the Florida Sheriff's Boy's Ranch. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated from Bradford High School in 1945, and the University of Florida in 1950. He received his masters degree in 1957.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Anne B. Shuford of Starke; daughter, Lori Shuford Bond of Moore Haven; his son Philip Craig Shuford Jr. of Buena Vista, Ga.; brothers, John Sidney Shuford Jr. of Starke, David L. Shuford, and George L. Shuford, both of Lawtey; and grandchildren, Lainey D. Bond and Shelby F. Bond, both of Moore Haven.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 11, in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Hutcherson officiating. Burial will be in Kingsley Lake Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home in Starke.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 10, at 7 p.m.

Arthur Eugene Ingram, 57, of Marianna died Tuesday, September 9, 2003, at his residence.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Marianna. He worked and retired from Sunland. He was of the Assembly of God faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ben and Mamie Ingram.

He is survived by his wife, Donna of Marianna; one son, Bennie Ray Ingram and his wife, Debbie of Alford; three daughters, Tamella Haddock and her husband, Donald of Cypress, Robin Ingram and Angela Ingram, both of Marianna; seven grandchildren; and extended family, Rick and Tammy Hendrieth.

The funeral will be held Thursday, September 11, at 10 a.m. CDT at First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Stephen Potter officiating. Burial will be in Rocky Creek Baptist Cemetery with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Maddox Chapel.

Anna G. Maegerle, 83, of Marianna died Tuesday, September 9, 2003, at her residence.

She was a native of Rocky Hill, Ky., and moved to Jackson County in 1982. She was a homemaker and a member of Victory Baptist Church in Sneads.

She is survived by her husband, Fredrick Andrew Maegerle of Marianna; one son, Robert Fredrick Maegerle of Miami; one daughter, Patricia D. Voght and her husband, Brad of Miami; and one granddaughter, Rita Anna Thrasher.

Memorialization will be by cremation. James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary E. Franklin, 74, of Marianna died Wednesday in the Marianna Convalescent Center.

Marianna Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Bernice Smith, 84, of Malone died Saturday, September 6, in the Campbellton-Graceville Hospital after an extended illness.

She was a native of Jackson County and a member of the 2nd Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Malone.

She is survived by one son, James A. Smith and his wife, Tamara of Los Angeles, Calif.; four daughters, Vivian S. Daniels of Graceville, Brenda S. Coley and her husband, Lloyd of Belton, Texas, Joyce S. Culver of Orlando, and Judy S. Mount of Marianna; one sister, Beatrice H. Hadley of Marianna; seven grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Sept. 13, at 11 a.m. at the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Malone with the Rev. George Williams officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville.

Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 12, from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Rodney D. Pittman Memorial Chapel in Graceville.
