EMELINE BELIN EBERSOLE
Mrs. Emeline Belin Ebersole, of 1205 Monument Ave., Port St. Joe, Fla., passed away Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999 at a local hospital. She was born in Holmes County, Fla., the daughter of the late William Jacob and Addie Leonard Belin, early pioneers of this area. She moved to Port St. Joe from Avon Park, Fla., with her parents in 1924. After spending her early years in this city, she and her husband, the late William Malcom Ebersole, moved to Rome, Ga., where she resided until his death in 1984, after which she returned to Port St. Joe. Mrs. Ebersole graduated from preparatory school in Montgomery, Ala., and attended Alabama State College for Women, now Huntington College, in Montgomery. She taught in the public schools of Gulf County and was later an employee of the St. Joe Paper Co. where she worked in the company's local mill production office. She is survived by brothers, Jacob C. Belin and wife Myrle and C. Leonard Belin and wife Mary, all of Port St. Joe; sister-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy Ebersole of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; nephews: James L. Belin of Port St. Joe, Jacob C. Belin Jr. of Rancho Palos Verdas, Calif., Stephen A. Belin of Valrico, Fla., Charles Ebersole of Tuscaloosa and Patrick Ebersole of Huntsville, Ala.; nieces: Mrs. Joel Morrisett of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Simeon Abby of Charlotte, N.C., and Mrs. Joseph Terrell Salter of Prattville, Ala.; and numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Ebersole will be Monday, Sept. 20, at 2 p.m. EDT at First United Methodist Church, 1001 Constitution Drive, with the Rev. Jesse Evans Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot in Holly Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at Comforter Funeral Home this afternoon. The family and relatives of Mrs. Ebersole will receive friends in the parlor of First United Methodist Church the hour before the funeral service. Mrs. Ebersole will be remembered by a host of friends, former students, former business associates and relatives. Requested to serve as pallbearers are: James Guilford, Frank Guilford Jr., Dave Maddox, Grady Player, Jim Belin, Cecil Harrison, Steve Belin and Terry Salter.

Mr. Woodman H. "Woody" Miner, 79, of 2632 Michigan Ave., Panama City, Fla., died Friday, Sept. 17, 1999 at his residence. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced at a later date.

Mrs. Helen L. "Bunny" Shea, 54, of 905 W. 26th St., Lynn Haven, Fla., died Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, at a local nursing home. She had been a resident of the area for five years, coming here from Tennessee. Mrs. Shea was a member of St. Dominic's Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband, John Shea of Lynn Haven; a daughter, Catherine Cawthon of Patrick AFB, Fla.; a son, John Shea IV of Macon, Ga.; two sisters, Marilyn Angel of Boca Raton, Fla., and Joan Ormston of Springhills, Fla.; a brother, Walter Orovet of Miami, Fla.; and one grandchild. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20, at Kent-Forest Lawn Home Chapel with Fr. Pete Zalewski officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Sept. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary to be said at 7 p.m.

JOSEPH OSCAR BARNES
Joseph Oscar Barnes, 72, of Chipley, Fla., passed away Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, at the Northwest Florida Community Hospital, Chipley. He had been a resident of Chipley for the last 27 years coming from North Carolina. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Blue Lake Baptist Church where he was also a Deacon and Sunday school teacher. Funeral service will be today at 3 p.m. at the Blue Lake Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Hall and Rev. Darrell Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Lake Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home directing. He is survived by his wife: Yvonne Barnes, Chipley, Fla.; three sons: Don Barnes, Chipley, Charles and wife Marion Barnes of Colorado Springs, Colo., Dennis and wife Brenda Barnes of Raleigh, N.C.; one daughter: Belinda and husband Ferrell Finch, Panama City, Fla.; five brothers: Chester Barnes, Wilmington, N.C., Lester Barnes, Wilson, N.C., Russell Barnes, Wilson, N.C., Arthur Barnes, Rocky Mt., N.C., George Barnes, Wilson, N.C.; four sisters: Virginia Barnes, Kenly, N.C., Fannie Leigh Nines, Wilmington, N.C., Dora Parks, Monroe, N.C., Betty Owens, Charlotte, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Mr. James F. Hughes, 77, of Panama City, died Sunday morning, Sept. 19, 1999, in a local nursing home. Born in Geneva, Ala., Mr. Hughes moved to this area in 1966 and was an electrician with the Bay County School District. Mr. Hughes is survived by his brother: Willie Gene Hughes and wife, Eunice of Topeka, Kan.; and two sisters: Mamie Williams and Mary L. Minger, both of Panama City. Funeral service for Mr. Hughes will be conducted on Wednesday, Sept. 22, in the Southerland Funeral Home chapel with interment to follow in the Garden of Memories with the Rev. Robert L. Layne officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, Sept. 21 from 2 to 5 p.m.

He had been a resident of the area since 1969 moving here from Connecticut. He was an entrepreneur in the hospitality industry and a member of St. John Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife of 58 years: Irene Miner of Panama City; a sister: Sister Mary Laboure of Portland, Maine; daughters: Mary Lee Miner, Lorraine Gilmore and her husband Doug; sons: Woodman H. Miner Jr. and his wife Regina, and Brian Miner and his wife Lois, all of Panama City Beach; a sister in law: Jean Keilty of Panama City; grandchildren: Jason Oakes, Stephanie Oakes, Rebecca Oakes, Shelly Oakes, Tracy Schoppe and her husband Ted, Suzanne Burke and her husband Mike, Allen Miner, Laura Froehlich, Glenn Crilly, Jamie Miner, Elise Miner, Woodman "J.J." Miner III and Charles Miner. A funeral mass will be held at St. John Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Allen Miner, Jason Oakes, Charles Miner, Glenn Crilly, Ted Schoppe and Michael Burke. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 20, with a rosary service at 7 p.m.

Mr. Paul Fessenden Jr., 67, of Simmons Bayou passed away Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999 at the home of his son, following an extended illness. A native of College Park, Ga., he served in the Army during the Korean War. While in Atlanta, he was employed by St. Joe Paper Company and Ralston-Purina. He had been a resident of Simmons Bayou for the past 15 years, and was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Jackie Fessenden of Simmons Bayou; his mother, Sevola Fessenden of Port St. Joe; a son, Marc Fessenden, his wife Phyllis, and daughter Holly all of Southport; a step-son, Bobby Fowler, his wife Janie and family of Locust Grove, Ga.; and a step-daughter Janet Meeks, her husband Jim and family of Cedartown, Ga. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. EDT Wednesday at the Comforter Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jesse Evans. Interment will follow in the family plot in Holly Hill Cemetery. He will lie in state at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday.

BOYD 'JIM' GUTHRIE JR.
Mr. Boyd "Jim" Guthrie Jr. age 61, of 507 Otto Road, Panama City, Fla., died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at his home. He had been a resident of the area since 1970, coming here from Alabama. Mr. Guthrie served his country in the U. S. Air Force for three tours of duty in Vietnam and retired as a tech sergeant. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post in Parker. Mr. Guthrie is survived by his wife of 18 years, Judy Guthrie of Panama City, Fla.; daughters: Michele Ersery and her husband Tim of Maryland and Cathy Eversol of Destin, Fla.; a son, Steve Guthrie of Fort Walton, Fla.; sisters: Jackie Fingerhut and her husband Mike, Linda Stanley of Milton, Fla., and Debbie Gohn of Alabama; a special cousin, Billy Davis; loving niece, Mary A. Smith; and honorable friends: Ken Sanford, Harold Nedly, and Ed Poole; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 22 at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Msgr. Norman Metsy officiating with full military honors conducted by Tyndall AFB. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, today, Sept. 21 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Mr. Steven Alan Hatton, age 35, of 3413 B. St., Panama City, Fla., died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at a local hospital. He had been a resident of the area for 15 months,coming here from Largo, Fla. Mr. Hatton worked for the Panama City News Herald. He is survived by his mother, Charlotte Hatton of Panama City, Fla.; father, James Hatton of Panama City, Fla.; a brother, Kevin Hatton of St. Petersburg, Fla.; paternal grandmother, Sillar Montgomery of Tiffin, Ohio; step-paternal grandfather, Orbin Montgomery of Tiffin, Ohio; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J. W. Hunt officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Wednesday, Sept. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m.

She is survived by her children: James Wells Lowrey IV and Ashley Brooke Lowrey; her mother, Jacqueline Sikes; her father and step-mother, John Franklin and Doris Bynum; dear friends: Cathy and Charlie Phillips; brother, John Hubert Bynum and his wife, Martha; sister, Amy Bynum Emery; brother, Jim Bynum and his wife, Valerie; and brother, Thomas F. Bynum; nieces and nephews: John Gray Bynum, Peyton Porter, Nicole Bynum, Jessee Porter, Phillip Porter, and Benjamin Emery. A graveside service will be conducted at sunset at Greenwood Cemetery at 5 p.m. today, Sept. 21 with Monsignor William Crowe officiating. The family will receive friends on today from 6 to 8 p.m. at 206 Hollis Ave., Panama City.
