Ms. Betty Ruth Porter Bush, age 74, of 16800 River Oak Road, Fountain, Fla., died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999 at a local nursing home. She had been a resident of the area since 1987, coming here from Apopka, Fla. Ms. Bush loved the outdoors, to fish, and to read. She also loved country music and to dance. Ms. Bush is survived by her children: Lawrence Dale Porter and his wife Debra of Springfield, Fla., Linda Gail May and her husband Jimmy of Panama City Beach, Fla., Judy Diane Taylor of Panama City, Fla., Johnny Beale Bennett and his wife Annie and Virginia Dare Duncan and her husband O.J., all of Winter Haven, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a former husband, John C. Bennett of Winter Haven, Fla. She was preceded in death by a son, David Lamar Porter and a husband, Lawrence Hubert Porter. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Mutter officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Thursday, Sept. 30, from 1 to 2 p.m. an hour prior to service time. The family will receive friends immediately after the service at the home of Judy Diane Taylor, 1028 Oxford Drive, Panama City, Fla. Ms. Bush's cremains will be interned at Vickery Cemetery in Marianna, Fla., Saturday, after a private family service.

Louis Fugich, 52, of Mason, Ohio, died suddenly Sept. 28, 1999. Funeral services will be at in Shorten and Ryan Funeral Home, 400 Reading Road, Mason, Ohio.

GORDON CARPENTER Dr. Gordon Carpenter, 86, passed away last week in Trenton, Ga. He was born in Dover, Del., and was a missionary pastor. He established the evanglistic ministry mission program "That They May Hear." Dr. Carpenter is preceded in death by his wife, R'Neill Carpenter, four sons and one brother. He is survived by one brother, Don L. Carpenter and three sisters: Margaret Bowman, Marian Richardson and Katy Harryman. Funeral services were held at George Earp and Sons Funeral Home in Kansas City, Mo., on Sunday, Sept. 26. Those desiring may make donations to one of Dr. Carpenters many mission programs.

Mr. Samuel E. Heisler, age 82, of 19618 Hwy. 231, Fountain, Fla., died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999 at his home. He was a Chief Machinist Mate with the U.S. Navy for 21 years and was also a Pearl Harbor Survivor during World War II. Mr. Heisler was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivior's Association, past president of the Florida State Firemans Association, and former chief of the Green Hills-Fountain Volunteer Fire Dept. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Electa "Billie" Heisler of Fountain, Fla.; a son, Jack Heisler and his wife Pat of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; a sister, Frances H. Lennard of Pelham, Ga.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Heisler was preceded in death by a son, James Heisler; sisters: Lela Willis, Anne Brown and Ruby Taylor; and a brother, Frank Heisler. Graveside funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 1 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with Full military Honors conducted by the Coastal Systems Station. Interment will follow. Asked to serve as honorary pallbearers are: members of the Pearl Harbor Survivor's Association and members of the Green Hills-Fountain Volunteer Fire Dept. The family will receive friends at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Thursday, Sept. 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Florida Sheriff's Youth Ranch, Boy Ranch, FL 32064.

Grady R. Hartzog Jr., 68, passed away Sept. 27, 1999 in Jacksonville, Fla. The family will hold a private memorial service. Interment will follow in Auburn, Ala. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, Fla. 32257.

Mrs. Barbara Jones died Wednesday, Sept 29, 1999 as a result of an automobile accident in Alabama. Funeral services are incomplete at this time and will be announced at a later date.

Mrs. Ethel Agnes Kelley Smith, 91, of 1424 W. 11th St., Panama City, Fla., died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, in a local nursing home. Born in Holt, Fla., she moved here in 1946 from Crestview, Fla. She retired from Lisenby Hospital where she was registered nurse. She was also a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church. Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her husband, Herman Smith and her parents Arthur Noah Kelly and Agnes Cutts Kelley. She is survived by one son, Gene A. Kelley of Panama City; two sisters, Velma Stricklin of Crestview, Fla. and Eunice Hoffman of Corvella, Ore.; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, Oct. 1, at 10 a.m. in Southerland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed. Britain officiatin. Graveside services will follow at 1 p.m. in Old Holt Cemetery, Holt, Fla., with the Rev. John Spivey officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Gene Kelley II, Larry Miller, Randy Corbin, Britt Corbin, Andy Kelly and Denny Stricklin. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services for Mrs. Myrtice Louise Tindell Bozeman, 52, of Youngstown, Fla., will be held today at 11 a.m. in Springfield Community Church with the Rev. J.W. Hunt officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Lt. Howard Peoples Jr., David Gardner, Chief John Sword, Sgt. David Barnes and Tony Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be all employees of Washington County Correctional Institution.

Martha F. Brooks, 68, of Apalachicola, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at her son's home on Panama City Beach. A native and lifelong resident of Apalachicola, Ms. Brooks had been a cook in local area restaurants in Apalachicola. She attended St. Patrick Catholic Church, also in Apalachicola. She is survived by her six sons: Joseph Lemon of Panama City Beach, Emett Brooks and wife Penny Sue of Empire, La., James Jackson of Bonifay, Benjamin Gudger and wife Ora Lee of Port St. Joe, John Gudger of Pascagoula, Miss., and Christopher Gudger of Indian Town; her four daughters: Iva Mae Greene and husband Tom C., and Delores McGee all of Tampa, and Mary Lemon and Connie Richardson and her fiance Curtis Robertson all of Apalachicola; a sister-in-law, Justin Brooks of South Carolina; 32 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ella Mae Richardson. Visitation will be today, Oct. 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. EST at Kelley Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. EST, Saturday, Oct. 2, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery in Apalachicola.

Mr. Thomas M. Garcia, CMSGT, U.S.A.F. (retired), 74 of Panama City, Fla., died Thursday morning Sept. 30, 1999, in a local hospital. Born in Philadelphia, Pa., he moved here 20 years ago from Niagara Falls, N.Y. Mr. Garcia was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam having served in the U.S.A.F. He retired from the Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant. He was also a member of the V.F.W. in Lone Pine, Calif. Mr. Garcia was a member of the Knights of Columbus Rev. Joseph M. Baker Council 3599 for 25 years and is current Grand Knight of Council 3599. He was the former district deputy for four year, former family director, past Faithful Navigator, was active in Boy Scouts of America in Niagra Falls and most recently in Panama City. Mr. Garcia was a member of St. John's Catholic Church where he was a lector and was a member of the Republican National Committee. Mr. Garcia is survived by his wife, Stella C. Garcia of Panama City; four sons: Paul Garcia and wife Darlene of Mentor, Ohio, Mark Garcia and wife Sue of Grand Island, N.Y., Thomas Garcia and wife Jennifer of Belfair, Wash., Edward Garcia and wife Mariann of Youngstown, N.Y.; one daughter, Teresa Hare and husband Pat of Estelle Manor, N.J.; two step-daughters: Catherine Conway of Tybee Island, Ga., Jodi Maywalt and husband Ted of Vienna, Va.; fourteen grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. A funeral mass will be conducted on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 10 a.m. in St. John's Catholic Church with Father Martin Bratek, C.R. presiding. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with a rosary service at 7 p.m. Mr. Garcia will be laid to rest on Monday, Oct. 4, in Niagara Falls, N.Y.
