NATHAN BERT WOODS
Mr. Nathan Bert Woods, "Captain Woody," age 78, of 547 E. Fifth St., Panama City, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at a local hospital. He has been a resident of the area for 30 years, coming here from Pensacola. Mr. Woods served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a master sergeant during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Woods was also the charter boat captain of the Miss Nell and a member of the Springfield Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Agnes Lanelle "Nell" Woods of Panama City; daughters: Tommi Nell Vaughan and her husband Don, Mary Frances Best, and Betty Jo Barfield, all of Panama City; a son, Mark Alan Woods and his wife Rita of Panama City; son-in-law, Larry Brand of Panama City; daughter-in-law, Nan Woods of West Palm Beach; brothers and sisters: Jessie Mildred Sillman, Viola Mae Easterling, Samuel Thomas Woods, Blanche Louise Ramsey, Doris Ruth Gandy, Paul Steven Woods and Eunice Elizabeth Bullock; grandchildren: Michael Vaughan, Debbie Pickle, Lori Vaughan, Natasha Vaughan, Paul Best, Jason Best, Sylvia Poppell, Raymond Barfield, Eric Woods, Melissa Henley, Bert Brand, Angie Porter, Charlotte McClain and Doug Brand; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Woods was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Diane Brand, and a son, Stephen Bert Woods. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20, at Springfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Everage officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery with military honors conducted by Tyndall Air Force Base. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Doug Brand, Paul Best, Jason Best, Raymond Barfield, Eric Woods and Mike Vaughan. The family will receive friends at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home today, Dec. 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff and doctors at Bay Medical Center and Gulf Coast Medical Center.

JAMES WINFRED 'J.W.' DYKES
Mr. James Winfred "J.W." Dykes, 70, of 502 New York Ave., Lynn Haven, died Saturday, Dec. 18 at a local hospital as the result of an extended illness. He was born on Feb.14, 1929, in Texasville, Ala. He had resided in Lynn Haven since 1947. Mr. Dykes was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven. Mr. Dykes retired from Chevron USA in 1986 after 30 years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Allagash during World War II. He was a Past Master of Harry Jackson Masonic Lodge No. 314. He was a member of the first Volunteer Fire Department of the City of Lynn Haven and served on the Lynn Haven Board of Adjustments for over 20 years. He was a devoted husband and loving father. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Marilyn Dutton Dykes; loving parents, Jewel and Roy Gilford of Southport; three sons: Mike Dykes and wife Kathy, Rodney and his wife Mickie, Stephen Dykes and his wife Julie; six grandsons: Paul Dykes, David Dykes, Daniel Dykes, Matthew Dykes and Logan Dykes, Jason Walsingham; two great-grandchildren: Ashley Dykes and Adam Dykes and their mother Maria Dykes; two aunts: Juanita Ross and Annabelle Threat; an uncle, Wade Davis; three sisters: Bernice Powell, Annie Kate Faircloth, Sandy Metcalf; two brothers: Dean Dykes and Darrell Dykes, all of Barber County, Ala. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven with the Rev. Don Hodges and the Rev. David Halstead officiating. Burial will follow in the Lynn Haven Cemetery with Masonic Rites at the graveside conducted by Harry Jackson Lodge No. 314. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. today. Those desiring to may make a donation to the First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven Memorial Fund.

David L. Gainer Sr. was born Oct. 21, 1919, in Chipley, Fla., and passed away Dec. 15. Services for Mr. Gainer will be held today, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Woodrow Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Body will lie in state one hour prior to services.

Funeral service for Master Travis Michael Gonzales, age 9, of Panama City, Fla., will be conducted this morning at 10 a.m. in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Don Shoots officiating and interment following in the Lynn Haven Cemetery. DOROTHY LOUISE LINDSEY
Mrs. Dorothy Louise Lindsey, age 77, of 24 Harrison Ave., Panama City, Fla., passed away Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, in a local hospital. She has been a resident of Bay County for 20 years coming here from Cedar Bluff, Ala. Mrs. Lindsey was a textile worker and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Panama City Beach, and served her country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mrs. Lindsey is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Janice Bryan of Senoia, Ga.; three grandchildren: Hal Bryan, Patrick Bryan and Cindy Bryan; sisters: Mrs. Annie Mae Ivey of Sylacauga, Ala., and Mrs. Dot Hartline of Ware Shoals, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Clem Hayes of Trion, Ga.; five nieces: Pat Brown, Annell Bentley, Carol Stowe, Joan Blackwelder and Reita Pohlman; two nephews: John Hartline and Rob Ivey. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21 at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Weaver officiating. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of Love at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 20. Funeral services for Mrs. Kathryn Cocke Mixson, 74, of Panama City, who died Friday, Dec. 17 after a lengthy illness, will be held today at 11 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Boozer, the Rev. Bruce Raley and the Rev. Rex Mixon officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery. Active pallbearers are: Bob Forbus, Ted Haney, Bill Lee, Henry Kracke, Tom Torgerson, Tom Wooten. Honorary pallbearers are: Harry Bailey, Margaret Lee, Gay Sudduth and members of the Devotion Sunday school class of the First Baptist Church. PEARLE L. O'SHIELDS
Mrs. Pearle Lancaster O'Shields, age 83, wife of Horace T. O'Shields of 1001 West 12tth St., Panama City, Fla., died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, at 1:05 a.m. in Wallace Thompson Hospital in Union, S.C. after an extended illness. Mrs. O'Shields was born in Union County, S.C. on June 10, 1916, a daughter of the late L.L. and Carrie Burgess Lancaster. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Panama City where she was active in the church choir and the Sunday school, and was a member of the Panama City Woman's Club. Mrs. O'Shields was retired from the Bay County School system. Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, John L. O'Shields of Jonesville, S.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the West Springs Baptist Church officiated by Dr. Todd Morris, the Rev. Donald Tillman and the Rev. Austin Bennett. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the West Springs Baptist Church Organ Fund, 4811 Buffalo West Springs Highway, Pauline, S.C. 29374. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home of Union, S.C., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. William Smith, 78, of 6206 Pridgen St., died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. He was a native of Pinkard, Ala., but had been a resident of Bay County for many years. Bro. Smith was one of nine children born to the late Mr. Colbert Smith and Mrs. Aller Britt Smith. Bro. Smith was united in marriage first to Mrs. Ella Mae Gainer Smith and later to Mrs. Julia Mae Fisher Smith, both of whom precede him in death. Also preceding him in death are his brothers, Grady and Lamar Smith; his sister, Willie Lee Long; his daughter, Mrs. Mary Ellen Desue; and his son, Mr. Percy D. White. Left to cherish his memories are: Harry Smith (Min. Claretta), Betty Warren (James), Adolph Smith, Barbara Brown (Foster) Carolyn Porter (James), Joe Nathan and Jo Red Denson, Cynthia White, Debra Smith (Mike), Letha Lane (Thomas), Teresa Tubbs (Cleve), Mrs. Betty Williams, 18 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and devoted friends. Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held Tuesday, Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. in the Greater Bethel AME Church with the Rev. O.C. Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Public visitation for viewing will begin today at the funeral home from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. The remains will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. The family will receive friends at the home of his son Mr. and Mrs. Harry and Claretta Smith at 853 E. 12th Court.

WILLIAM SPURGEON SMITH
Mr. William Spurgeon Smith, 91, of Alford died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, in Marianna. He was born in Clarksville, Fla., but lived in Jackson County most of his life. He was a charter member of the Pine Ridge Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years before moving to Alford where he became a member and a deacon of the Alford Baptist Church for nearly 30 years. He was a farmer and a member of the Harmany Lodge No. 3. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Grace Swails Smith of Alford; four sons and daughters-in-law: Donald and Patsy Smith, Gene and Helen Smith, all of Alford, Milo and Lila Smith of Blountstown, Wayne and Mitzi Smith of Gainesville; one daughter, Elsie Burnett of Clinton, Miss.; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. CST Tuesday, Dec. 21 at Alford Baptist Church with the Revs. Tommy Seedorf and David Halstead officiating. CHESTER B. STALNAKER
Mr. Chester B. Stalnaker, 79, of Springfield, Fla., died Dec. 18, 1999, at his home. Born in Bergoo, W.Va., he moved here in 1983 from Maryland. He worked in West Virginia as a coalminer for 17 years and retired from Civil Service N.O.S. in Indian Head, Md. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Parker, was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 82nd Airborne Division and was a member of the VFW. Mr. Stalnaker is preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Lou and Judith Ann Stalnaker; one brother, Ivan Stalnaker; and one sister, Sylvia Taylor. He is survived by his wife Josephine E. Stalnaker of Springfield, Fla.; three sons: David C. Stalnaker and wife Tammy A. of Panama City, Fla., Ronald L. Stalnaker and wife Myra of LaPlata, Md., Michael O. Stalnaker of Springfield, Fla.; one daughter, Carol S. Mathes of Southport, Fla.; two brothers: Leslie Stalnaker of Medina, Ohio, and Owen Stalnaker and wife Margie of Toledo, Ohio; two sisters: Doris Jenkins of Baltimore, Md., and Janice Hamrick and husband Stanley of Cowen, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Parker. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

JOSEPH McCAGEOR BEALL
Mr. Joseph McCageor Beall, age 89, of 312 Wahoo Road, in Bay Point at Panama City Beach, Fla., passed away quietly at his home Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999. Mr. Beall was born Feb. 18, 1910 in Brantley, Ala., grew up in Dothan, Ala., and lived in Cottonwood, Ala., for many years. He had been living in the Panama City area for the past 15 years. He founded Beall Peanut Company in Cottonwood in 1939 and was involved in the business until his retirement in 1967. Mr. Beall was a member of Cottonwood Baptist Church and had attended Woodlawn Methodist Church in Panama City Beach. He was a member of Bay Point Men's Golf Association and enjoyed golf and woodworking. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Catharine Ford Beall. Survivors include his daughters: Catharine Byrd and her husband Bill of Vancouver, Wash., Josephine "Jobie" Ponder and her husband Dan of Compass Lake, Fla.; a son, Joseph " Joe" M. Beall, Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla., seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m.. Friday, Dec. 24 at Cottonwood City Cemetery in Cottonwood, Alabama with Rev. Ronald Ball officiating. Mr. Beall's grandchildren will serve as active pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 23. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of N.W. Florida, 2001 N Palafox St., Pensacola, FL. 32501-2144.
