ALFRED DAVID 'A.D.' BECK
Mr. Alfred David "A.D." Beck, 74 of 3531 Florida Ave., Panama City, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000 at his home. He has been a resident of the area since 1948, coming here from Pensacola. Mr. Beck served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 32 years of service. Mr. Beck was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church. He was also a member of the ACME Lodge No. 222, past Master and past District Deputy Grand Master, member of the Scottish Rites, 33rd Degree Mason, member of the Shaddai Shrine Temple, and vice president of the Westside Men's Club. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Brannon Beck of Panama City; one son, Al Beck and his wife Karen of Panama City; one daughter, Pam Domico and her husband Greg of Panama City; sisters: Jessie Jackson and her husband Edward, Myrtle Lucas, Mary Rosa Johnson and Doris Mayo, all of Pensacola; brother, Hilbert Beck and his wife Mildred of Montgomery, Ala.; a dear brother and sister-in-law, Hillman Brannon and his wife Allie Mae; a dear sister-in- law, Mildred Brannon; grandchildren: Michelle Smith and her husband Jerry, Jason Domico, Ashley Beck and Abbie Beck; and great-grandchildren, Jordan and Gunner Smith. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 12, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Johnson and the Rev. Adolph Bedsole officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with Masonic Rites to be conducted by Acme Lodge No. 222 of Panama City. The lodge will be open an prior to service time. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Virgil Bass, Raymond Miller, Ted Kozlowski, Billy Turk, Don Heaton and Chester Martin. Honorary pallbearers will include: all Master Masons, John Price Sunday School Class, Adult 4 Sunday School Dept. of Immanuel Baptist Church and all U.S. Postal Employees. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Immanuel Baptist Church in Panama City Building Fund in memory of Mr. Beck.

Funeral services for Mrs. Beryl M. Caler, 77, of 4240 Habour Villa, at Bay Point in Panama City Beach, who died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, will be held at 10 a.m. today, Jan. 12 at the Kent-Forest Lawn Chapel with the Rev. Si Mathison officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

BETTY JEAN DAILEY HARRIS
Mrs. Betty Jean Dailey Harris of Fountain, Fla., died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000 at Bay Medical Center. She moved here in 1986 from Alabama and was retired from Delchamps. She is preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Myrtle Dailey. She is survived by her husband, Dean A. Harris; four sisters; three brothers; four daughters; one son; 11 grandchildren; mother-in-law, Mrs. Doris Emery; and many, many friends. She will be buried in Camden, Ala., on Thursday Jan. 13

Mr. Donn Hatchell, 72, of 7333 Talmadge Ave., Southport, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000 at his home. Born in Scranton, S.C., he moved here in 1952 from Phenix City, Ala. He retired from the Naval Coastal Systems Center as a machinist and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Southport, organized the first Boy Scout troop in Southport, organized and was very active in the Southport Little League Baseball Association and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 375. Mr. Hatchell is survived by his wife, Romona C. Hatchell of Southport; two sons, Manley Ross Hatchell and wife Elaine of Callaway, Keith Thomas Hatchell and wife Janet of Ebro; one brother, Marion Hatchell of Augusta, Ga.; three grandchildren, Donna Hatchell, Megan Hatchell and Becca Hatchell; one great-grandchild, Caitlin Morrison. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000 at 10 a.m. in the Smith-Southerland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Scott Whetstone officiating. Interment will follow in Ebro Cemetery. Mr. Hatchell's sons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be: all members and players of the Southport Little League Baseball Association, all members of American Legion Post No. 375, Dr. Daffin and Dr. Don Evens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

CHRISTOPHER MICHAEL HOPPER
Christopher Michael Hopper, formerly of Rogers, Ark., and beloved son of Richard and Claire Hopper of Rogers died Jan. 4, 2000 as a result of injuries sustained when struck by an automobile in Panama City, Fla. Christopher was born on June 27, 1979 in San Antonio, Texas to Richard Lee and Claire Jean Henry Hopper. Christopher was a 1997 graduate of Rogers High School and at the time of his death, he had just moved to Panama City in December, and was preparing to attend the Community College in Panama City majoring in Paramedics. He attended the St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church. Christopher enjoyed drawing and was a certified scuba diver and was a member of See the Sea. Survivors include his parents, Richard and Claire Hopper of Rogers, Ark.; one brother, Richard Hardin Hopper II of Austin, Texas; and one sister, Christina Marie Hopper of Rogers, Ark.; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan.13 in St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church with Monsignor Richard Oswalt officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Memorial Park Cemtery in Fayetteville, Ark. Christopher believed in the organ donation program therefore memorials may be made to University Anatomical Medical Sciences, Anatomical Gift Program, 4301 W. Markham, Mail slot 510, Little Rock, AR 72205 Attn: Laurie Costa.

Mrs. Alex A. Johnson, 60 of Panama City, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000. She was born in Dum Egete City, Phillipines and was a homemaker. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Memorialization will be by cremation.

Mr. Frank King, 92, of Port St. Joe, passed away Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000. A native of Evergreen, Ala., he was a faithful member of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the trustee board for many years before failing health. He leaves to mourn his passing wife, Mrs. Inez King; one daughter, Mrs. Ruby Baker; one son-in-law, the Rev. Luther Baker; three stepdaughters: Ms. Janie Morris, Debra Elliott and Cherry Chambers; five stepsons: George, Johnny, Eohol, Raymond Morris and Larry Chambers; four grandchildren: Ira D. Roberts Jr. and wife Merion, Lorenza Roberts, Douglas Richards and Arzator Jones; 21 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; five great-great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Wynonia Ingram of Montgomery, Ala., and Mrs. Dana Booker of New Brunswick, N.J.; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. The funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. EST today at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, with interment to follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. He will lie in state at the church today from 10 a.m. until funeral time. All services are under the direction of the Comforter Funeral Home.

WALTER NICHOLS
Mr. Walter Nichols, 90 of Clarksville, died Sunday in Calhoun Liberty Hospital. Mr. Nichols was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County and was retired from Calhoun County School System as a maintenance supervisor. He was a member of Poplar Head Baptist Church in Clarksville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Chrystelle Nichols and son and daugther-in-law, Henry James and Linda Nichols. Survivors include one son, Ellis Nichols and wife Betty of Clarksville; two daughters, Jeanette Johnson and husband Howard of Blountstown, Joyce Mauldin and husband C.W. of Panama City; one brother, Louie Nichols of Panama City; four sisters: Minnie Mae Thorpe of Milton, Rosa Belle Thorpe of Panama City, Mildred Etheridge of Panama City, Christelle Walden of Frink; one sister-in-law, Doris Nichols of Blountstown; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. today, Jan. 12 from Poplar Head Baptist Church in Clarksville with the Rev. Mike Tier and the Rev. Jerry Chumley officiating. Interment will follow in Poplar Head Cemeery in Clarksville with the grandsons serving as pallbearers. Flowers will be accepted or contributions can be made to Poplar Head Baptist Church.

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Scott, 75, of 19828 Brandon Road, Fountain, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000 at a local hospital. She has been a lifetime resident of the area and was a member of the St. Andrew Church of God. Mrs. Scott is survived by a daughter, Barbara Simmons of Fountain; grandson, Eric Blount and his wife Danna of Panama City; granddaughter, Meagan E. Simmons of Fountain; sisters: Kate Ham of Grand Ridge, Fla., Willie Mae Manor of Brannonville and Bertie Lee Protuck and her husband Harry of Fountain, Fla.; a brother, Mack Manor and his wife Alice of Jacksonville; many beloved nieces and nephews; and great and great-great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Layne and the Rev. Gene Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Scott's nephews and great-nephews will serve as active pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, Jan. 13, from 6 until 8 p.m.

Mrs. Due Etta Soderquist, 75, of Panama City, died Monday Jan. 10, 2000 in a local hospital. Born in Samson, Ala., she was a lifelong resident of this area. She was a homemaker, Lutheran by faith and a member of the Rebecca Lodge. Mrs. Soderquist is survived by her husband, Ronald N. Soderquist of Panama City; one daughter, Claudia McDonald-Vallely and husband Jim, of Mobile, Ala.; one sister, Vernon Gwaltney and husband Bert, of Panama City; two grandchildren, Shane Weaver and wife Paula of Mobile, Ala., Keith Weaver of Birmingham, Ala.; two great-grandchildren, Sara Christina Weaver and Nicholas Shane Weaver. Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000 at 10 a.m. in the Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Ed Meyer officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Mr. Quay J. Watson, 71, of Panama City died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000 at his home. Mr. Watson was a retired sgt. maj. in the U.S. Army with 26 years of service. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Mooney Watson; a grandson, Donnie Quay Rawlinson; his parents, Jesse B. and Hallie Cauthen Watson Sr.; and a brother, Jesse B. Watson Jr. Mr. Watson is survived by one son, Bill Rawlinson and wife Barbara of Fort Mitchell, Ala.; two brothers, Duane C. Watson of Sheyboygan Wis., William Kent Watson and wife Barbara of Camden, S.C.; a special friend, Audrey Vincent of Panama City; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Striffler-Hamby Funeral Home in Phoenix City, Ala. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000 at 2 p.m. EST at Lakeview Memory Gardens in Phoenix City, Ala. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Long of Phoenix City, Ala., and Ashley Pallock of Valley, Ala., also serving are the Widowed Persons Services of Panama City. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers family may make contributions in memory of Quay Watson to Hospice of Northwest Florida, Widowed Persons Services of Panama City or the Bay County Council on Aging.
